I
am
a
fan
of
prehistory,
so
am
biased,
but
I
can
be
critical.
This
is
one
of
the
newest
neocaves
(specially
designed
cave
replicas
so
that
the
original
is
not
damaged).
It
can
get
very
busy
in
August.
We
arrived
on
a
Thursday
with
no
booking
and
there
was
no
availability,
so
we
booked
for
2
days
later
in
the
morning.
It
was
not
too
busy
but
by
midday
was
getting
so.
There
was
no
availability
for
one
of
the
2
daily
tours
in
English,
so
we
had
booked
a
normal
tour
(where
we
had
headphones
with
the
tour
in
English,
while
the
rest
of
the
group
listened
to
the
French-speaking
guide).
The
tour
took
about
45
minutes.
The
cave
replica
is
fantastic...
very
professionally
done.
There
are
other
activities
and
display
rooms
as
well
as
the
cave,
but
the
others
do
not
need
a
time
allocated
booking
and
do
not
require
a
guide.
The
art
in
Chauvet
cave
is
outstanding,
and
the
fact
that
the
paintings
were
done
in
different
times
(35,000
years
Before
Present
and
30,000
years
BP)
is
fascinating.
The
quality
of
this
art
so
long
ago
-
in
the
Aurignacian
Period,
is
awe-inspiring.
The
famous
Lascaux
paintings
were
done
in
the
Magdalenian
Period
about
17,000
BP,
which
makes
our
modern
era
nearer
in
time
to
the
Lascaux
period
than
Lascaux
is
to
the
oldest
Chauvet-Pont
d'Arc
paintings!
