It is so sad that I find myself giving such a poor review of such a wonderful set of drawings and paintings even if they are copied from the original. I took the tour with a English Audio guide. Unfortunately the audio description quickly fell behind the French speaking guide and I found myself listening to the description of the works whilst the lights were being turned off automatically as the group moved on. Eventually all those listening to the audio guides about 14 of us were left in the last section of the cave listening to a description of the drawings in darkness. I complained to the guide who said there was nothing she could do and had herself raised the issue with her manager but nothing had been done. Sadly it seems this UNESCO protected site seems to have been turned into a ‘Disneyland’ sausage machine tourist trap rather than a place to wonder at what are extraordinary examples of our prehistoric forebears attempts to picture their world and record their place in it.

Fantastic experience, BUT the English audio lasted longer, and the guide switched off the light, so we couldn't see what the audio was describing, there were lots of people and no need for the guide to turn off the lights!!!!!!!!!

Well I'm afraid it didn't quite hit the mark for a number of reasons. 1) we book a ticket for 15:30 and are then told we are late even though we were at the gate at 15:20. 2) You arrive at the entrance to the cave system. At the last minute you are told to download an App to be guided through the visit. Trouble is the site has very little phone signal (even the guide was laughing at that). 3) let's remember that this is a module of the real thing, but the guide says no photos and no videos. Why on earth not?! Sorry but I've €18 for this and want remember my visit... 4) OK, it looks inside but it is lifeless with no dampness, not cold enough and no sense of being in a real cave. 5) I guess I have to trust that this is a good replica of the real thing.... We went in Late November. I can imagine summer is very busy.

Love this place and whole experience. Highly recommend seeing the galleries before the cave portion; so your eyes and mind can wander as the guide speaks... otherwise, you'll feel rushed when they move your group on.

We arrived around 5 pm and wanted to visit the cave. At the entrance we were already told that we must pay the complete price, but not see everything because of "the storm“ (lame excuse). The funny thing is: At the same time, each point of visit is covered. We decided to visit the cave anyway. In the cave we got headphones to listen to the explanations in German. So far, so good. However, the guide didn't pay any attention to the foreign speakers at all. As soon as she finished explaining in French, she turned off the lights and we were left in the dark. When we left the cave, 40min before closing time, all places to visit were already closed. For this, 18€ was not worth it and the staff is also not helpful at all. If you do not speak French in the store, you are abandoned. For a tourist place really sad.

Nice people but the fact that it's all artificial and recreated, even if they're very proud about how painstakingly it was made by architects and designers, it lost all the charm as you can clearly see the stones/cave doesn't look very real and it doesn't help that you can see the scaffolding through gaps in the construction. The drawings looked nice but looked a bit too fresh and clean for something depicting a historical painting

The original cave must be amazing and one of the most important for humanity. The copy is a huge engineering and architecture achievement. However I could not stop wandering how well they reproduced the original paintings. I would have loved to look at the details of each piece but this point is mute when we consider a reproduction. The tour is rushed because they are more interested in making money. Facilities are not set up for large Amos of people, in the Cafe I had to wait 30 minutes for a warmed up sandwich. Overall very pleasant experience.

We just went here today and we had a very good experience! The first one we were not si fortunate as we followed Waze and google in English and we were brought to the original site so we had to add 25 minutes more I think to reach the site. We selected English for our daughter and we were lucky to be just the 3 of us! The tour was so intimate with our guide who was very knowledgeable and informative, we forgot to ask his name! But he answered every questions and showed us interesting things! We appreciated a lot of things because him! Removed the misconception that 30,000 years ago people were less developed, smaller and not so smart to than we are! But in fact no, they have bigger brains, worked only 6 hours and created this magnificent cave that is such a marvel!

So much more than I expected. We booked in advance to secure our spot on an English speaking tour. I was sceptical about the replica cave, but it’s incredible. The purpose build site make everything more accessible, from the central car park to the layout of the three main buildings. The ‘Animal’ animation was mesmerising. We visited in the heatwave so we’re glad of the air conditioned buildings!

visited for the second time, again a wonderful experience! our guide was well prepared and passionate, and gave us a lot of informations. Almost unbelievable what homo sapiens was able to do 36000 years ago!

Incredible experience. Only down side would be the number of classes of school children visiting who were so noisy & spoilt the ambience of the site. Luckily there were none on our actual tour of the cave but we could hear them coming on the next one. Should be told to keep quiet or leave!

Incredible! Our tour guide Shirley was very informative and certainly knew her stuff! Amazing to be able to see the drawings our ancestors made on the walls of the cave! Highly recommend!

This cave is a real eye opener. I couldn't believe how well they painted so many thousand years ago - the artwork is nothing short of amazing. The video show is also pretty amazing - never seen anything like it and so beautifully done. The cave lost a star for customer service: - we specifically booked and paid for an English guide for our extended family who don't speak French, but got a Dutch speaker who spoke no English and little French! - the headset they gave us instead wouldn't synchronise with the lighting so you couldn't see what it was telling you about without a delay; - we were rudely rushed out of the cave, despite the lack of guide and the failing technology, and had to complain in order to go back in and see the last grotto. So don't expect great service, but do go

Just an amazing place, definitely a must visit if you are in the area. Great for the kids and I was very impressed by the guides knowledge, who stayed back afterwards and answered questions.

Brilliant - a great recreation of the original cool tour and welcome relief from the summer heat. Ice cream at the start was great - loved the chance to try a spear thrower !

Loved the place. We arrived at around 9.30 for the 11.20 English language tour. This allowed us plenty of time to see the art installation, and the history of the area. The tours start promptly, so be there or be square. You also have headphones to hear your guide. Great idea, helps block out screaming kids. Very easy to walk if disabled. No steps and very gentle slopes.

An amazing place to visit where they have created a beautiful replica of the Pont DArc Chaucer Caves. It was so realistic that at times you forget it is just a replica! Informative audio guides are available if you do not speak French, we really enjoyed visiting this place.

Hello, before I go to some caves, but here it is different level. We like it very much. Usually people explain that you need 3h to pass the area. Even the bad whether we need more to see all what we want.

I am a fan of prehistory, so am biased, but I can be critical. This is one of the newest neocaves (specially designed cave replicas so that the original is not damaged). It can get very busy in August. We arrived on a Thursday with no booking and there was no availability, so we booked for 2 days later in the morning. It was not too busy but by midday was getting so. There was no availability for one of the 2 daily tours in English, so we had booked a normal tour (where we had headphones with the tour in English, while the rest of the group listened to the French-speaking guide). The tour took about 45 minutes. The cave replica is fantastic... very professionally done. There are other activities and display rooms as well as the cave, but the others do not need a time allocated booking and do not require a guide. The art in Chauvet cave is outstanding, and the fact that the paintings were done in different times (35,000 years Before Present and 30,000 years BP) is fascinating. The quality of this art so long ago - in the Aurignacian Period, is awe-inspiring. The famous Lascaux paintings were done in the Magdalenian Period about 17,000 BP, which makes our modern era nearer in time to the Lascaux period than Lascaux is to the oldest Chauvet-Pont d'Arc paintings!

Didn't know what to expect as you see a replica of the caves not the real deal. Got to say its well done and once inside you soon forget your not in the real cave. The audio tour is available in English and switches automatically as you go through each section. It takes about 1 hour to walk the cave.

I would give this place ten stars if it was possible. The cave is so interesting, it feels as if it was the real one, both for smell and darkness, and the guide explained the main paintings, and still also a number of minor drawings had been recreated and were visible. A second visit would also be interesting. The place also offers a park and an we could see an "moving" art exhibit which, although it had no connection with the archaeological visit, was surprising and great. There is plenty of parking and the place is easy to find (despite the winding road). It is forbidden to take photos in the cave as we were said the pictures are online.

The reaction of the caves is impressive and the tour is very nice. The tour is in French but they have a headset with a tour in English and you can ask the tour guide questions in English during and after the tour.

Before going I was very sceptical, however I was amazed by the quality of the reproduction of the cave. It comes across so realistic you imagine you are experiencing the real thing. The attention to detail is breath-taking. If you have to use the headphones make sure you are near the front of the group to make sure you pick up the signal for the commentary at the right time. My only complaint was that the lights dimmed too quickly after visiting each area. Highly recommended.

Exceptional place to visit, adapted for children 5-6 and older. The cave visit done with a torch is a great way to get immersed into the surrounding.

I have to admit that firstly I hesitated to go as it is about a replica of the real Chauvet cave. After reading all the good comments we did go and do not regret this! It is really great. We did go with 3 kids 12, 14 and 16 and there is an app that you can download upon the entrance and which will guide you through the cave with good intervals in different languages. Even in Dutch which was perfect for us and the kids. Please don't go with very young kids as it is only disturbing for others. Once you are in the cave it is like you are in the real one.

This is so impressive. After pont d'Arc the most worth visiting. The cave is a reconstruction of the original caves with drawings, but it feels like a real cave. Also the view over the valley is impressive. Also don't forget the impressive light/visual show Animales. Wow, it gave me goosebumps!

It looks unbelivable like the original one (or like how I imagened the real cave). The cave tour was a bit short because groups follow each other pretty quickly, but still worths to visit. Other attractions on site are mostly lame, you can skip them if you do not have much time.

Since watching the Arte-documentation about it, I have always wanted to visit Chauvet. This year we were accidentally in the area and dropped by. We were super happy to get a space in one of the guided tours and it was simply magical. I am planning to return there, when time allows it, to visit in the evening, when people are allowed to go in with the app and spend as much time, as they want.

One of the worst museum-esqe experience I ever had. The cave itself is well made. French guide rushed through everything, while a separate pre-recorded guide for foreign visitors (played from poorly made player and headphones) wasn't even half way there. It wouldn't be much of a problem, if not for the lights that would just turn off whenever the french guide was done, leaving the place of interest in complete darkness with no chance of seeing anything there. Poorly executed experience that feels like money-machine rather than anything worth visiting.

Our tour with an English speaking guide (book in advance!) was good. Unfortunately it felt rushed, they turn off the lights so you can’t continue to see the paintings after a few minutes. Our guide seemed to have much more to say on the art but was rushed through and cut her comments short once the lights began to fade. Would still recommend a visit if you like prehistoric art, it’s very beautiful and the art is exceptional. They just need to slow down the tour by adding maybe 15 minutes more, perhaps charge a bit more to compensate for the fewer tours they could do and it’d be perfect.

Absolutely worth a visit, there is so much to see at this site. But most impressive is the replicated cave. The attention to detail is amazing. The tour through the "cave" is slow and you get a real feel of how the real cave would appear.
