The castle is nice, the views are great. The price is reasonable - 5.5 for the castle only a d a combined ticket is 8 euros. We went on a Sunday and it was calm and pleasant. I have to admit, we went with an American friend and we were surprised that everything is in French. Yes, we understand : en France on parle français, but this is a tourist attraction and we cannot expect that everyone on earth speaks French right :)

It is not possible in 2023 to have the information about the few exhibits ONLY in French. It is not possible ! About the castle, is a mediocre castle with a few things to see, the rooms are not arranged like in a typical castle, they look more like paintings rooms, and a lot of modern art that I find is not suited to find in an ancient castle.

I visited it today, it is a tourist attraction and they do not explain anything in English ! Peaople are coming from all over the world to see and wxplore the castle but all labels are just in French ! How would non- French speakers know more about the place ! That is unfair, i came by and did not understand any of the labels written, the only English labels were to inform us not to touch things ( THAT’s it ! ) can you imagine !!!!! Waste of time as u did not understand anything inside despite being interested in history and wanted to know more about every thing inside it . But to be fair enough the place is picturesque inside out .

One of the best places to see the whole city of Annecy. The museum has a lot to see about the history, interesting things about the lake and etc. If you are visiting Annecy I think this is one of the places you should visit.

We didnt go in but dropped by to take iconic pictures of the part of La Thiou canal sliced into half by the Musee building, which makes it look like the bow of a brick ship. Stare at it hard enough you might even think the building is sailing towards you!

Very interesting visit. Don’t expect crazy historic place, but you will definitely enjoy your time exploring the rooms that have interesting amenities. Depending on the season and time they have different presentations. You’ll enjoy beautiful views from castles windows as well. Price is very affordable, and they have an option to choose the package to visit a small castle at the bottom but it was closed during my visit.

Castle museum with accompanying art exhibition. Spectacular views over annecy, the Lake and the surrounding regions. Reasonably priced, 3 euro for under 26s etc, and well run. Worth a visit.

Different from other critics here I really liked the exhibition. But what really needs to be improved is the written explanations: most is only in French, but even if there are English translations, they are very small printed and positioned very low, so that it is almost impossible to read. Same in the 2 other museums included in the ticket. Obviously the international public is not really taken care for, which is quite a contrast to the modern and international context presented in the exhibitions.

You're basically paying for a view of the town. The interiors house art pieces (and an aquarium?) that have nothing to do with each other, let alone the château itself. It feels like they wanted to populate the empty rooms, if each room had a different curator who hadn't been told what the other was doing. There's very little historical or educational value to 80% of the exhibits. There were no tours either when we visited, though there was no shortage of staff on site. Overall, it's an incongruent mess. It feels like a misapplication of a "monument historique" and a wasted opportunity to learn about the history of Annecy, the countryside, or of the building itself. At the very least, the grounds should be free entry! Keep the fee for whoever wants to see the art.

When in Annecy you must visit Musée-Château d'Annecy. Rich in history, culture and art! The visit is worth 3x the 5€50!!

An Enchanting Journey through History: Château d'Annecy Introduction: Prepare to be captivated by the rich historical tapestry and breathtaking views that await you. I am delighted to take you on an unforgettable journey through time. History: The origins of Château d'Annecy trace back to the 12th century when it was constructed as a fortress by the powerful Counts of Geneva. Over the centuries, this remarkable stronghold has witnessed the rise and fall of dynasties, political struggles, and even periods of peace. Its commanding position atop a hill provided strategic advantage and afforded its occupants an unrivaled panorama of Annecy and its surroundings. During the 15th century, the castle underwent significant expansions, transforming it into a sumptuous residence fit for nobility. The House of Savoy, rulers of the region, played a vital role in the castle's history. They embellished its interiors, adding grand halls, opulent chambers, and ornate frescoes that have survived the test of time. Highlights: Step inside the castle walls, and let the allure of history wash over you. Explore the remarkable medieval architecture, the formidable fortified walls, and the picturesque towers that have become iconic symbols of Annecy. The castle museum invites you to discover the many layers of its past. Marvel at the impressive collection of medieval artifacts, including weaponry, armor, and heraldic emblems that provide insight into the lives of the castle's former inhabitants. Trace the evolution of Annecy through meticulously curated displays that delve into the region's art, culture, and heritage. As you ascend the castle's towers, be rewarded with awe-inspiring panoramic views. Gaze upon the shimmering turquoise waters of Lake Annecy, surrounded by the magnificent French Alps. The view alone is worth the visit and offers a glimpse into the natural splendor that has enchanted visitors for centuries. Immerse yourself in the castle's enchanting gardens, where carefully manicured landscapes and vibrant flowers evoke a sense of tranquility. Stroll along the paths that wind through the lush greenery, and find a moment of peace and serenity amidst the historical grandeur. Conclusion: As your journey through Château d'Annecy comes to an end, take a moment to reflect on the stories that these ancient walls hold. Feel the weight of centuries of history, the triumphs, the struggles, and the indomitable spirit of those who once walked these halls. This castle is not merely a historical monument; it is a gateway to the past, a testament to human ingenuity and resilience. It stands as a symbol of Annecy's rich heritage and invites visitors to become part of its enduring narrative. So, dear traveler, I encourage you to explore the Château d'Annecy, lose yourself in its grandeur, and emerge with a deeper appreciation for the captivating blend of history and beauty that defines this remarkable place. Your visit will surely leave you with cherished memories and a sense of gratitude for the privilege of experiencing such wonders.

Nice experience with two main visits that allow to know the history of Annecy with multiple realistic paintings and another with the representation of the fauna and flora of the region In the end of the visit, there is an exterior part that allows to have a good view of the lake Costs 4,3 per person remains an accessible visit

The tour guide was wonderful and spoke very clearly (in french) as our group was made of all french learners. It's small, and hot in the summer but It's pretty cool to see how well preserved it is.

Interesting castle doubled up as a museum. Entrance fee is just 5.50 euro. I think it’s a really good price since you have a gorgeous panoramic views from the castle and also there are a few expo that’s very educational. I like the effort they made it really family friendly by adding some small kids corner to keep everyone entertained while learning about the exhibitions around the area. You learn everything from the way of life in the past, freshwater fishes of Annecy region, amazing centuries old paintings, and more. Definitely worth it to stop by while you’re in Annecy.

Museum is supposed to close at 5pm. But we were kicked out at least 20 minutes which was a valuable amount of time for our visit. It wasn’t please to see museum personnel all standing and looking at us and waiting. And this happened when there was still 7 minutes to close. This is not a way to develop tourism for sure: Management needs to decide if it closes for visitors at 5pm or if that is closing hour for personnel.

Have some mercy for fish in aquariums. The aquariums are too small, and in some of them (especially the one with a few big carps) fish swim close to the surface and the pump outlet, which means that there's not enough oxygen in the water. If you cannot provide proper conditions, just resign from making this exhibition at all.

Beautiful castle and a really interesting museum! Lots of interesting history and splendid views across annecy! Tickets were reasonable at just $5.50 for adults! Slightly steep walk up to the museum but not to strenuous! Really recommend! Lots of photography and amazing paintings to check out!

Parking on premises possible although it is worth to walk all the way up from the old town. Fair entrance fee and no cost for kids. Nice collections and set up, good tout through the castle and cool activities for kids, my 7&5 year olds never got bored. Nice views from several points inside and outside of the building.

Very neat building and piece of history. Amazing view over the city and portion of the lake. I wish there was more info in english, and more details on which section of the chatteau you are in on a map as you progress through. I recommend arriving prior to 3:30. some areas they won’t allow you in as you get closer to 5 since it takes 30 minutes to explore certain sections

Worth the visit for the views and the art exposed in it. However I would have preferred some expo on people living inside here before instead of contemporary art, and general expo on Annecy.

One of these days I really need to pay for the full tour, but I am always so taken by the town and the lake that I want more time to explore. This is a great example of the old world though and I do enjoy walking up to and around the area.

The reason behind my rating is the difficulty to get inside. First time, we were banned because of our little dog that we kept in its bag. We came back another day and they have a very strict time schedule to visit the castle

The history of the castle and the compound was interesting, but the art exhibits were okay. Good if they can allow us to explore the building to learn more about the history or just to admire the architecture. Requires a short climb up the hill.

Castle itself is an interesting building with an excellent vantage point of the city. I've seen better contemporary art exhibits but for the price overall I think was reasonable when comboed with the view

When I enter the entrance and go to straight I can meet good view but Château is not special, I think Château de Chillon in montreux is more better!!!

The museum of Château d'Annecy was an amazing experience! First of all, a great exhibition of well-known artist-animator Theodore Ushev was held in the museum (I think it will last until the end of September), that I loved so much!!! I'll put some photos. Second, the permanent exhibition of the museum travelled me through the old ages of Annecy, its people, their lives, the history, the Comtes de Genève and many other stories. Great place and very well organized.

The castle of Annecy is in fact a museum, but its exhibits are not very special. The view from the inner courtyard is the only thing I enjoyed, providing a clear separation between the red-tiled roofs of the Old City and the more modern flat roofs of the rest of Annecy. Access is very difficult and involves either a steep, harrowing climb uphill, without any shade, or a shorter route that is even steeper, also without shade. Warning for people with roller skates or skateboards: the cling is doable for experienced skaters, but the descent is nearly impossible and damages the brakes.

Nice little castle. Great to go on a rainy day or if your close by. It has beautiful paintings of the glaciers from artists in the 1800's. It has a ecological section of the types of fishes in aquariums.
