This
is
the
place
to
visit,
if
you
want
a
deep
insight
into
Bob
Marley's
childhood
and
humble
beginnings.
You
can
see
the
community
yard
where
he
spent
his
youth,
and
view
the
vehicle
he
loved
dearly.
Still
home
to
locals,
this
is
a
vibrant
neighborhood,
filled
with
hard
working
locals,
and
bright
eyed
children,
working
towards
a
better
tomorrow.
As
a
tourist,
when
you
walk
into
the
gates
of
Marley's
childhood
dwelling
within
Trench
Town,
a
hoard
of
local
Jamaicans
will
herd
you
into
an
admin
office,
where
the
woman
in
charge
will
inform
you
of
the
ticket
you
*must*
purchase,
to
even
get
into
the
yard
and
premises;
this
is
despite
all
the
hoards
of
local
Jamaicans
you
will
see
just
casually
sauntering
into
the
yard,
and
simply
'chilling'
in
the
yard,
and
hanging
around
Marley's
supposed
cherished
vehicle
etc.
She
will
inform
you
that
the
ticket
will
include
a
guided
tour
as
well.
Now,it
appears
that
a
company
has
taken
over
the
money
making
aspect
of
Marley's
chldhood
dwellings;
not
unexpected
in
a
developing
nation,
where
there
are
no
security
measures
to
protect
apparent
original
items
such
as
Marley's
vehicle
(locals
appear
to
sit
in
it
and
smoke
all
day,
except
to
politely
stand
aside
when
a
tourist
shows
up).
And
it
is
ok
with
tourists
like
myself.
As
long
as
the
hardworking
locals
and
guides
such
a
*Blackie*
and
his
partner
guide
(
a
very
sweet
gentleman
who
is
saving
up
for
his
daughter's
nursing
school)
also
benefit
financially.
So,
when
you
are
there
as
a
tourist,
and
you
purchase
that
ticket,
make
sure
to
ask
the
admin
there
if
they
are
paying
these
locals
well
(because
the
guides
live
right
there
in
Trench
Town!).
Your
tip
alone
is
most
likely
not
adequate
to
help
sustain
these
hardworking
local
guides.
These
are
Marley's
people....his
community...his
brothers...the
ones
he
was
fighting
for;
let's
be
mindful
of
supporting
and
honoring
his
community,
as
we
enter
his
childhood
dwelling
with
a
tourist
or
fan's
curiousity.
Trench
Town
is
still
a
very
neglected
and
run
down
part
of
the
city
(local
taxi
and
uber
drivers
are
resistant
to
driving
to
that
part
of
town,
because
it
is
not
in
the
best
shape).
Marley
would
have
wanted
it
to
be
in
a
better
state,
and
wanted
his
childhood
community
to
to
be
thriving.
Let's
do
our
part
to
look
out
for
the
people
that
the
late
Bob
Marley
was
advocating
for.
