Visitors, be aware that the museum is closed for renovations for I don’t know how long. I couldn’t tell from checking online. Maybe it’s because I can’t read French. Would not have made the trip if I had known. Historic significance aside, it’s a little far off.

I was privileged to attended a lecture about and screening of Au Hasard Balthazar at the Institut. It's wonderful to have places still showing these classic treasures.

A must for all cinema enthusiasts. Interesting exhibits, many screenings of early movies, and various early cinematography equipment. Free entrance with the Lyon City Card (highly recommended). In the souvenir shop they sell many cool posters of their previous film festivals

The museum wasn't open but the bookstore was. This was all about "ground zero" for me. The first Lumiere movie...the exact spot. Wow.

The Institute has a wonderful cinema theater which slopes down, giving a great view to the screen. There is a lovely café across the street with indoor and outdoor seating and good food and beverages to enjoy befire or after the show. . If you are a fan of old movies this is the place to go. Convenient metro access.
