I’ve had this place bookmarked for a while but the reviews are so sporadic we hadn’t gone yet… finally decided to try it today and…. Wow. Possibly one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. This was the “avocado toast with a poached egg and bacon.” You’ll note, no bacon, the eggs were cold, the toast was stale, zero salt had been used - and it took 40 minutes to get. Our iced latte was good, we had to ask for water three times. The staff were nice but very young and seemed overwhelmed by the whole thing. Maybe spend the money on some experienced kitchen staff? Atrocious. Location is great though!

Located in a wonderfull street in Monkstown, The café du journal offers indoor seating as well as some tables on their lovely outdoors terrace. Interior design very stylish, the corner where other stuff like jackets (!?) is being sold is a bit weird, but still great atmosphere. The breakfast has always been good and also tried the lunch options for the first time, and the spaghetti carbonara were absolutely delicious. Despite the restaurant not being extremely busy, and despite the fact that a lot of staff was around, the service was unfortunately not great, we did not see them often, everything took quite long, and the drinks that we ordered with the food were not brought to us at all. Everybody was very friendly though so maybe it was just a bad day. Overall very lovely café / restaurant

Good quality tasty food. Staff lovely if a little under pressure at busy times. Quite disappointed that we got disposable cups for sit in coffees.

Service was as slow as it could be, and the food itself wasn't the best. As you can see in the photo, I got a rabbits snack. The bap, though itself, was decent. Wouldn't go back again and wouldn't recommend it to others.

Busy cafe during weekends. Taste of the food is really good. Love their carrot and coffee cakes. Pet friendly cafe, lot of pets come along here happily with their parents. One thing for which I don’t give 5 rating is cleanliness. They don’t properly clean the tables and show lethargic attitude till the customer requests for cleaning.

A busy, family friendly Monkstown cafe staple that's open early for breakfast every day, including Sunday. There's also brunch and lunch dishes including a dressed crab salad, gluten free soups and an array of open sandwiches. Weekends can be busy, and while the staff are pleasant, an extra barista would go a long way to alleviating the queue on a Sunday afternoon. There's a nice aroma of baking, it's fairly priced and the coffee is good.

Fantastic place. Opens early, friendly staff and the omlettes are amazing. Really nice coffee too. Would highly recommend a visit.

My girlfriend and I visited this cafe on a Sunday noon, and our experience was quite disappointing. The cafe was bustling with customers, and every inch of space was used, making it feel cramped, especially at the small tables for two. We ordered a smashed avocado and a full breakfast. The smashed avocado, though fresh, didn’t quite justify its price (12.50 euro) - I was expecting something more substantial. The full breakfast was a letdown, with the bacon overcooked to the point of being too hard, the red beans portion noticeably small and surprisingly sour. Not to mention the sausage and pudding are also smaller compared to the other cafes' breakfast. A point to note is that breakfast orders don’t include coffee, so we added two cappuccinos. Unfortunately, they were a disappointment as well, tasting sour and overly bitter - not the rich and smooth experience we were hoping for. The cafe is clearly understaffed for the number of tables and customers they were trying to accommodate. This might have contributed to our less than stellar experience. I rarely encounter such issues with cafes, but it was unfortunately the case this time. I would suggest that the management consider enhancing their customer service and overall customer experience. More staff might help ease the burden and improve the quality of service and food.

Open spaces inside and out. Quite a cosy atmosphere. The food is good too. Waitresses didn't hand out menus, or take our orders. It was hard to get their attention even on a day that wasn't very busy. They were pleasant otherwise. The menu can be a bit pricey.

Friendly reminder to check the tip machine before you tip ! The card tip machine was automatically set at € 5 and told the staff that I over tipped (on a €12 bill - for 2 coffees and 2 raisin rolls) and they said there's nothing they can do about it and I should have make sure the amount was set at € 1 (even though there was a huge label that says the tip machine is €1) Never mind that, decided not to pursue the matter since its my own oversight but then realised that one of our coffee (with regular milk) has gone sour with tasteless coffee - this was also 9:30 am in the morning. Won't be returning sadly.

Nice place, tasty food, a bit on the pricey side but similar prices across Dublin! Lovely sitting outside in the sun, the interior seemed a little dark. Pleasant and helpful wait staff.

I had a wonderful lunch at Cafe du Journal. I was walking around, shopping in the area, and decided to stop here for lunch. The cafe is bright and so inviting. I had tea and the fish soup and it was INCREDIBLE! Quite possibly, the best I have ever had. The sourdough bread was perfect too.
