One of the best Forts which you can explore in France. History pur. This castle 🏰 with all his defenses and the great history at all. The little Restaurant on the top is great to. Highly recommended and for each Explorer a must in his life.

It's a great place, though I didn’t see the lion because it is under repair till 5th June. You can sense the spaciousness, bravery and wisdom of the people. You will never regret going there!

Stunning views of the surrounding area. In its present form, this fortification was designed in 1687 by Sébastien Le Prestre, Seigneur de Vauban. A brilliant personality, born in Burgundy in 1633. who died in Paris in 1707. He was Marshal of France during the reign of Louis XIV. It is thanks to his genius and his ability to build fortresses that we see this beautiful structure on the one hand, and on the other hand, thanks to him, the citadel withstood more than 100 days of siege in 1870. Indeed, this is one of the symbols of the military glory of France! The beautiful lion, which is the symbol of the city, was built 10 years after the siege. And of course, this fortification is a must-see. Here, not only a beautiful view of the city and its surroundings, it is also a wonderful museum. What I especially liked about the museum is the wonderful collection of weapons and uniforms from the nineteenth to the beginning of the 20th century. Here you can also take wonderful comfortable trams and drive through the territory of the fortress and visit the old town.

Excellent Place to visit in Belfort. A fort having 300 year history .. a museum, small cafe shop and A Frace Flag at the top flying high... Neat and Clean with view of entire Belfort. Lion Monument is a must watch. Carved out of Rock..

Every time I come to France to visit my relatives, I always stop here. It never disappoints! The views are great as well. Who knew that the Lion of Belfort statue was designed by the same sculptor and architect, Frederic Bartholdi, who designed the Statue of Liberty in New YorkCity?

Imposing citadel overseeing Belfort. Recommend to take the train to get to the top and walk down. This way you can see the defenses, gates, tunnels and bridges on your way down and avoid the climb in the heat (went here late July). In very nice shape though most of the buildings aren’t open for the public. Given the extensive structure, it most be substantial. Would be nice to have an exhibition more clearly describing daily life in the citadel for conscripts, NCOs and officers. Also it’s role during German occupation would have been interesting. Basically no original equipment left, no cannons etc. The museum is OK but small, one hour affair. Well setup and describes the relevant time periods, though very limited.
