Stunning
views
of
the
surrounding
area.
In
its
present
form,
this
fortification
was
designed
in
1687
by
Sébastien
Le
Prestre,
Seigneur
de
Vauban.
A
brilliant
personality,
born
in
Burgundy
in
1633.
who
died
in
Paris
in
1707.
He
was
Marshal
of
France
during
the
reign
of
Louis
XIV.
It
is
thanks
to
his
genius
and
his
ability
to
build
fortresses
that
we
see
this
beautiful
structure
on
the
one
hand,
and
on
the
other
hand,
thanks
to
him,
the
citadel
withstood
more
than
100
days
of
siege
in
1870.
Indeed,
this
is
one
of
the
symbols
of
the
military
glory
of
France!
The
beautiful
lion,
which
is
the
symbol
of
the
city,
was
built
10
years
after
the
siege.
And
of
course,
this
fortification
is
a
must-see.
Here,
not
only
a
beautiful
view
of
the
city
and
its
surroundings,
it
is
also
a
wonderful
museum.
What
I
especially
liked
about
the
museum
is
the
wonderful
collection
of
weapons
and
uniforms
from
the
nineteenth
to
the
beginning
of
the
20th
century.
Here
you
can
also
take
wonderful
comfortable
trams
and
drive
through
the
territory
of
the
fortress
and
visit
the
old
town.
