Karlshof

Lodging Student dormitory

🫤 Most of the people are very nice. But their policy his horrible. They charge you lot of money when you move out just because you got something broken (does not matter if they quality was already fragile/poor). Inexpensive housing but there you've the downside. If you can afford don't live there. People often mention students,

This place is a blessing and a curse at the same time. Multiple buildings in a big park in a good neighborhood. Students get a sense of community and enjoy the relative proximity to the university (TU main campus) with two convenient bus lines leaving from the top of the park Karlshof is in, and from the bottom. Diverse student population. Single rooms, small but private but hard to get; shared bathrooms in the apartment, shared laundry for the whole complex, which of a problem but some flats have their own washers, although it's technically not allowed. Cleanliness could be an issue. It has good amenities and low rent, but the Studentenwerk, who is essentially the landlord, is simply terrible. Massively mishandled asbestos removal from the exterior walls in the 2000s and then essentially tricked students into signing legal waivers by throwing them a couple months free rent. Restaurant/bar in the middle, an annual festival. Karlshof is close to a couple of supermarkets and two fantastic parks. However, there's always a party somewhere so it can be very distracting. Rooms are small but ok and afford privacy, shared common room. Floor models vary, usually for 4 or 6, sometimes on two levels; you can be issued furniture, which is awful but does the job. It's better after the exterior remodel but urgently needs an interior update. If you live on the top floors of building 6 you might have to use the stairs often, as the elevators routinely break. 5 year maximum stay. All in all, not a bad place to spend your University years but make sure to prioritize studying as distractions are too many and too tempting.

It's OK but the landlords are terrible to deal with (very disrespectful and just do not care) and don't solve reported problems. my flat has had mold for over a year and they refuse to take care of it. They also threatened to make us pay for damages that weren't our fault. Some flats are very outdated and have bad plumbing and I know at least a couple that are infested with bugs. The washers here are also terrible as they either don't work or I've had a couple stain my clothes and bedsheets (there were no stains when I put them in). Refrigerators are also very small, especially considering that they are for 4-5 people. on a good note there's a big community here and a lot of partying. it's also close to campus which is nice.

Lived there 2005/2006 It was a great experience. Many students from around the world and most incredibly friendly. It was great to see it fully renovated (at least from the outside).

Karlshof: we are not gonna make sure everything in the apartment is clean before you move in. But we definitely gonna judge you from it when you move out. ( As they take money from the Kaution of the last person due to the uncleaned public place, they should clean the public place before the next one move in)

The whasing machines were allways broken and just 1 or 2 worked for more than 200 people. Some flats were dirty and messy, also when I was leaving my room they told me they are going to take 150 euros from my deposit to paint a wall that was dirty, the dirt was from the ventilation and it was messy even befor I got the room. They kind of scam students somehow allways.

This is where I stayed in Darmstadt, where I came because of Erasmus. it is a 10-minute bus ride from Luisenplatz, known as the city center. There is Rewe market nearby. A little further from the market there is a wonderful green area known as Burgerpark. Many Erasmus students live here.

Great and affordable place for students to live. There’s a small food joint operated Studierendenwerk mensa. Laundromat is available too. High speed internet via TU network.

They kicked me out as soon as I arrived with a reason that I'm getting salary from the university as a reasearch assistant. I got the room offer from the university's hausing assistance and I had informed my status precisely. I came from a foreign country and it was such a pain to find a next accomodation in 2 weeks in the middle of covid lockdown. What is going on. For international students, be careful. I hated my experience.

In one word : "Heaven". The best student dorm. Almost 1000 rooms, well maintained, 24/7 hot water supply, Lots of greenery around, Well connected and have 2 bus service in every ten minutes, supermarkets nearby, Walking distance from TU Darmstadt, City Library, City Centre...do I need to tell more? If you ever get a chance to live here, don't give a second thought..just move in.
