Be aware that this hotel is also a government homeless shelter. Were provided keys to a room that was already occupied and walked in on someone in the shower. We were upgraded to a better room. If you go, ask for a room on a floor that is not part of the shelter. You never know who might ride the elevator with you…

We were not told it was a homeless shelter.. The smell of cannabis outside matched the odors inside our room.. We were approached many times and we were nervous as we were asked for money cigarettes and drives. Our posts keep getting taken down but I will continue to keep posting to warn people of this location. We have left many messages and many posts here for the management to call us but they have not. My advice to anyone staying in the area is to stay away from this place please do not take your children there as there are people you do not want to meet riding the elevators all night and running the Halls

If you are looking for sleepless nights, I highly recommend this place! Government and the owner of this "luxury" hotel are so friendly teaming up accommodating almost half of the rooms to the homeless. If you love the smell of cigarette and cannabis in elevators, balcony and lobby, this place is a must go!! You can find buddies to chat with 24/7 in elevators, lobby or parking lot! This place is extremely safe due to high number of security and on most floors! All the shops on main floor like Starbucks are temporarily closed.

Don't stay here! Ican't believe you are charging full price for rooms while the hotel is operating as an undisclosed homeless shelter. The elevator was almost unusable due to the smell of tobacco and pot smoke. I also enjoyed the 3 AM screaming. You should be ashamed of yourselves for trying to hide this before paying customers book and arrive.

DO NOT book here. Allowing guests to still book when the hotel is a homeless shelter. Signs all over the place about how they aren't liable for theft or damage. Constantly 12 to 20 homeless people standing by the door smoking. In and out of thw elevators. Nothing against homeless people but you shouldn't still be booking guests. Front desk staff just sat and complained the entire stay.

Booked online at 200 plus CAD for this room. I wish it was disclosed that it is a homeless shelter prior to booking as I would have booked elsewhere. First off they would not honor the 76000 points I had as they 'expired' due to Hilton policy. You know who doesn't operate this way? IHG Rewards. As such I was not able to book my stay with the 50000 points required and it cost over 200 for the night. The staff are fine, and the location would be convenient if not for the homeless people. I understand everyone has the right to stay there, but I also feel it should be disclosed prior to booking so people make informed decisions with their money. If it were just me and I was on business it would not bother me personally. But with my wife and two small children it was a bit much. The elevator was never empty and always smelled of cannabis and cigarettes. The hallways too. Upon waking up everyone in my family was congested and stuffed up. The beds are way too soft and lumpy and sleep was not great either. I was unaware there is a difference between a Hampton and a Doubletree and as such was surprised there was no included breakfast. It is on me for assuming a 250 a night room would include breakfast, but needless to say was still disappointed. I have had back to back bad experiences with Hilton now and I will be changing my loyalty to IHG.

Worst experience in hotel since a while. I learned by the staff that the hotel has 2 floor that are now a Rehab center. I didn't feel safe. My carpet has sunflower on it so not clean. And to top it, some person from the rehab didn't understood what a rehab is. Fire evacuation during the night because they smoked pot in the hotel. And also people were buying and doing drugs directly in the parking lot. Not a good experience. Also only 1 elevator in service. I complain to the staff and wasn't able to talk to a manager. wont go there ever again. Not safe for a person alone

We were advised against staying here at one point as the hotel provides a number of government subsidized rooms on a lower floor to support displaced individuals. The hotel does a great job of balancing community and guest needs. We spent one night here and have no complaints. Our room was spotless and comfortable as was the hotel. Staff were amazing in making us feel welcome. Great location and central to both Dartmouth and Halifax.

Emily was my room attendee she helped me with extras when I needed them. She was able to help me feel welcomed especially with this hotel being a part of the government program helping homeless people. If anyone were to stay there hopefully you get to interact with Emily. She is very friendly and puts the vacationers needs first even with being very busy cleaning rooms.

Stayed in a room with two huge vents directly outside the windows! Was a constant hum all night. Room 211! Didn’t sleep well at all, $176 a night for a room that seriously should be a storage room! I hope the management staff will see this post a seriously consider making a change! Otherwise nice hotel.

I was sent to this hotel by WestJet after a missed flight connection. It's not very close to the airport but it's right on the water, and there's lots of shops and food choices nearby. Staff was super helpful and friendly, and understanding of my situation. My room was clean and comfortable. I guess the only downside is I wish they would have mentioned the hotel also serves as a shelter. I didn't find this out until after I was checked in. The guest pantry is emptied, and the fridges have big locks on them. You need to be taken into this locked room to view the items, which is uncomfortable. There's also a large security presence in the lobby.

Well we were not impressed. My wife and I got there it seemed OK the front desk were nice . We got to the room and the toilet was rocking and leaking so I called the front desk they said they would offer us an upgrade we went to the new room but it was a down upgrade from our suite so we asked for something else they said they had nothing and was rude so we went back to the original room then they called said a room the same as ours was cleaned got there and pieces out if the furniture were missing the front desk then got rude again when we complained with us we were treated terrible .So we asked for our money back I am a Hilton honors member I always use Hilton . Service was good until we complained . You pay over $ 300 it would be nice to have a working toilet. I will never stay at the Doubletree in Dartmouth ever again .

The lobby is full of unmasked (guests?) binging on free coffee and vaping/smoking/toking out front. We arrived to police and security entering a room. I asked for glasses on nye, and the concierge told me to toast with paper cups! The halls were full of garbage from fast food. The room was small, noise from the halls travels, and the bathroom could be much cleaner. Parking was $10/night which is outside. The restaurant was closed- not something we were notified of in advance. They charged the full amount for the stay at check in AND a $200 deposit. After 4 nights they wanted to charge us another $50 to check out at 2pm instead of 1:30. Avoid.

I have only delivered to the front desk. They look and work very professionally. This hotel has been taken over as a homeless shelter. I'm not sure of the details, but they have covered up the signage on the road.

The actual hotel is starting to get a bit run down. The furniture in the rooms has definitely seen better days. Dings, scratches, and whatnot all around... but the people? Fantastic. Their housekeeping crew is absolutely A1, big smiles, extremely friendly and personable. I didn't deal with their front counter crew much, but every time I did I was greeted with a warm greeting.

The hotel was very clean and the staff were very friendly! I keep seeing reviews about the homeless shelter but did not experience this problem. Happy they are able to house those that need it! My only concern is that the restaurant seemed low staffed. The staff worked hard but it was quite a crowd for the amount of staff working. Will definitely come stay again!

Stayed for 3 nights. Standard room with two beds. Room 225 on second floor. Sink didn't properly drain. Fan was broken in bathroom. Paid almost 800$. It was clean and great service. Room service and bar were excellent. But can't help but notice there were def. A lot of shady people hanging around inside and out. Rooms were not sound proof at all. For that kind of money for a room I'm expecting a semi nice hotel not a motel environment.

Stayed at this hotel while in town for some work. The rooms are very nice, staff was some of the nicest I've ever experienced and the restaurant was just delicious. I went out to eat nearby one night but the hotel restaurant was so good I just kept going there instead. Definitely will stay again.

Good service. Check in was easy and room was clean. Only downside was that it's across a toll bridge from the city and we didn't know this before going (not the hotels fault but was difficult to scramble for change this day and age). Would be lovely if they provided tokens or passes for customers.

Rooms were very nice so far. Reception hal was wanting in graciousness. Only one check in person. No one offered to help with luggage. Strange characters hanging out at the front door. It seemed a bit scary. It had the feeling of a halfway house for homeless people as soon a you drove up. Too bad there wasn't an outdoor area for them not right by the front door.around the front door and in the lobby. I'm thinking these are homeless people being housed by the city. That's great but they shouldn't take over the front area and be hanging out in the lobby.

Great stay at a reasonable price. The hotel is located about .4 miles from the ferry to downtown Halifax. There is a shopping center close by (Drug Store, Groceries, Restaurants, an excellent record shop, a nice park, and a transit center. Overall great staff, clean hotel with a pool and fitness center. (The cool thing about the fitness center is that it looks directly into the pool, so for parents that want to work out while their kids swim, it is set up for this). They have a full bar open till 10:30, so again, if parents want a romantic evening, they can leave the kids in the room and still be in the hotel near the family.

Excellent service when I stayed at this Hilton. I travel all the time and seeing how Emily treated the guests made me want to come stay at this location even more. Downfall was that the entry smelled like smoke due to being staying by the door like right beside smoking even with signs .Emily made up for that the smile she brings and the help when needed made everything so much better.hopefully she gets to be recognized for her amazing work and also gets to see this comment .

One of my favorite hotels, I keep coming back and it always holds up to expectations. The rooms always feel new and fresh. Friendly and helpful staff. Near everything, walkable for most. The restaurant is also pretty good. Comfy super clean beds.

Had an absolutely awesome experience at this Double Tree, was very reasonably priced and is in a very convenient location. I love that at check in you are greeted in a friendly manner and we're given warm chocolate chip and walnut cookies πŸͺπŸ˜‹ The room was beautiful and came with a balcony. Beds were very comfortable and the television had a great cable package. The staff were very friendly and courteous πŸ™‚ Breakfast was phenomenal, the waffle was amazing πŸ˜‹ the pool is an adequate size. Throughout the hotel the style, design and decor is beautifully decorated with a purple themeπŸ’œ I absolutely loved and enjoyed my stay here it most definitely exceeded my expectations πŸ™‚πŸ’œ

We booked for two nights and ended up staying a third night. Room was overlooking the harbour with a balcony. Very clean and well appointed. Spacious and the bathroom had an awesome walk in shower. Staff are very friendly and the bonus here are the delicious cookies. Breakfast was good along with coffee. It’s easy walking to the ferry and for 2$ you can be at the Halifax Wharf. We had lunch at the Canteen… get the lobster Crab roll!!Again walking distance. Highly recommend!

Room was very clean and quiet. The bed was very comfortable. The only issue I had was that the door didn't latch completely unless we slammed the door. I'm glad we checked it. We reported it to the front desk.

I highly recommend Double Tree Hilton, my experience was wonderful. Staff were very helpful and friendly, even their hard working cleaning ladies were very accommodating and friendly. The room was much larger than I had expected, and it was extremely clean. I would definitely stay here again.

Not so happy with this hotel. Bathroom could have been cleaner and the rooms are not very spacious. We got a room with balcony to sleep with an open window, but had to close it as everybody was smoking on the other balconies. Did not had breakfast as you wither get a better deal with AAA or breakfast. (strange I think). We could not sleep the first night because of a party and fight going on two door down. The security had to come several times and still no improvement. Unfortunately, the doors bang very loud when they close and most people didn't know that they can use the handle. The clientele was quiet questionable. Another negative point I didn't know when I booked the room was that I had to pay $5 per night for parking. The only good thing was the location which was very convenient for us. I don't think I will come back.

Been dealing with Michelle for an event space rental for our business and she has been a pleasure to work with. Very accommodating and responsive to our needs. The space itself is great and lots of parking. Definitely recommend.
