Horse Thieves Tavern

Restaurant Bar

🫤 buffalo cauliflower was not really breaded correctly and was kind of a soggy pile and 1/2 of the florets were small/broken. Burger was fine but patty was a bit dry. Lobster roll was one of the worst we've ever had. Was served on a "wonder-bread" like roll and was dripping with sauce. Was a Friday... Honestly one of the weirdest dining experiences of my life. They didn't seem to have outdoor seating figured out yet (a little strange for July) and were surprised when we asked for it. Our waitress was very sweet but a little awkward and would linger at the table since we were the only outdoor table when we got there. We ordered the cornbread and some cocktails. The cornbread was mostly raw but honestly still delicious. We then got a burger and the chicken pot pie. The burger didn't come with the correct toppings, which our waitress left to go get. The chicken pot pie was so good, however my date finished his plate, and even had it cleared, while our waitress served other outdoor tables that had arrived and forgot about fixing the burger. When we ordered more drinks we reminded her. When the drinks came to the table she asked if we wanted a box for the burger, and we said no, we just wanted the toppings we had been asking for. She apologized, returned with the toppings, then stood and watched as we built the burger. The burger was very cold and inedible at this point and left on the table. None of the food runners knew where to bring their food and wandered around awkwardly, the girl who brought us more drinks couldn't tell us which was which, we waited over an hour and a half for the check (spent 2 and a half hours here total). The uniforms were T shirts and whatever yoga pants they wanted to wear. The hostess was sitting in the window on her phone the whole time. Our menus were never taken and we had to awkwardly eat around them. There was only one paper drink menu that they had to keep moving from table to table. Appetizer, 4 drinks, 2 entrees was $100 but not worth the money. We would not go back here.

Lobster roll was one of the worst we've ever had. Was served on a "wonder-bread" like roll and was dripping with sauce. Was a Friday night, early service before the restaurant was too busy. Can't really see a reason to go back frankly, save for a pint and some fries. Fries were good. Beer was good.

First time trying this restaurant. Love the thin fries. The turkey chili and korean fried chicken burger was delicious. Wish that there were dessert available but the time i went the staff told us dessert were not available at the time.

Love this swanky new neighborhood joint in the heart of historic Dedham village. I didn’t know about the horse thieves association until now and how important it was during Dedham’s early days as an agricultural economic center for Boston. (They would protect the horsesLol from getting stolen.) Dedham is a little-known yet important part of American history. We have the first public school in America and the oldest standing house (Fairbanks house). This place does Dedham and atmosphere and food right - suggest trying the fried cauliflower and the shrimp appetizer - both are extremely good 😋🥰

I'm willing to give them another chance because i like the atmosphere. The service was below average, we waited about 40 minutes for the check for example. At one point the bartender came over to clear a glass because we had them for so long. The corn bread was under cooked in the middle and was very difficult to get out of the iron skillet. Also was smaller than expected. Both our dinners were on the salty side. The drinks were very good however and the venue is really cool. One of my party had been here before and loved it so I will go back. But yes it was expensive and this time around didn't quite meet expectations I'm afraid.

just awful, very greasy fish and chips, soaked through the paper lined metal basket leaving my dinner to sit on the not so clean outdoor table. Tasted like they needed to change the oil they’re frying in. Tri color slaw was wilted and rubbery with NO sauce or flavor at all. Skinny little greasy fries, also no flavor.. The cauliflower app was ok, like you’d expect in your local bar. I should add the service was great, can’t hold the food against them. Won’t be returning here. Want to give credit for the paper straws but could be better if they weren’t served with large plastic cups.

Service was non-existant and no knowledge of food allergies. When we finally got a drink order in I was given a regular beer when it was labeled in the menu as gluten free. This is a big problem for those with celiac and the staff nor the manager did not seem to care. Paid for one drink and left after a total of about 35 minutes.

Conveniently located with lots of parking nearby, this place has a good vibe, some tasty food and decent enough drinks. Service is attentive quick and efficient. The corn bread was fantastic - the main course was OK and then the desserts were very good. The shepherd pie for example had lots of potatoes and very little meat and the salmon was dry - over done. But desserts all hit the spot and in balance we left rather pleased with the experience.

Completely unprofessional and rude staff. They ignored us and the people at the bar stared at us like we didn’t belong. Went down the street to the fusion place and instantly our night was turned around. Don’t waste your time, go down the street, there’s better service and better food.

Another new addition to dedham square. Its a great spot. Good draft list with really good food. The timing on the food delivery was a little off. The apps and main course came out basically at the same time. Thats the only small gripe I can think of. Other than that it was absolutely great. I will definitely be back again for more.

Delicious food, excellent staff, and an warm contemporary atmosphere at this new Dedham restaurant! My partner and I have been so impressed with the food and service that I had to write a review. We've had the cod with leeks and mushrooms and salmon with honey mustard and fennel - in both cases the fish was perfectly seasoned and prepared and the accompaniments where unique and so good! We've also tried the grilled steak and the flavorful chicken tagine that tastes like it's been simmered all day. Grilled shrimp app has an amazing citrus sauce and you will want to savor every drop of the broth that comes with the mussels! Can you tell I love this place?

I've been dining regularly at Horse Thieves for over 2 years now- love the evening vibe. Great cocktails, hearty food menu and is great for all occasions whether it be date night or a family outing.

Disappointed. Limited menu, small portions, and high prices. Fish and chips were mediocre at best. Burger was way overcooked. The place was freezing inside, which meant the fries were too within a couple of minutes. Staff seemed stretched thin and wasn't attentive or communicative. Was very hungry when I arrived and left unhappy I'd picked this place. I do appreciate the thoughtful response from the owner. Everywhere has bad days, so hopefully your experience will be better.

Strange experience. Unfriendly staff, small portions and overpriced. The fish and chips was tiny and over-fried. Too much cumin-flavor in the other dishes, including the burger and dipping sauces. Woof. No side with the (small) schnitzel other than a thing of cole slaw. Usually served with rice, potatoes, noodles or a salad! Go elsewhere - not worth it.

One of the few family pubs in Dedham with outdoor seating dining. Great place to bring the kids for a family meal. Delicious healthy comfort food and selection of micro brews with the cacophony of the Yard House in Legacy Place.

The BLT had no flavor, the hummus with the veggies looked like it was prepared the day before. Service was below average. The only thing I liked was the ambience.

Cozy bar, very friendly atmosphere and a good selection of drinks. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, they recommended different beers and wines. Their cocktails selection is limited, buy they will try to help you out. If you want something that they just don't have they will suggest something similar. Also we had a small bite/snack and it was delicious 😋🤤 Will go back again whenever/if I am in the area.

I've been here twice now, once for drinks and apps, and once for brunch. The food is excellent and the servers are all very friendly. The lamb meatballs are amazing. Planning to get there for the live music on Thursdays soon.

I will give them this much, it was a busy nite. But I am very disappointed. Both corn bread appetizers were undercooked . We were hungry and ate one and the other was returned. I requested a replacement which never came. We received the chicken sandwich, which was also undercooked. I returned it. A few minutes later the manager (female) came over to inform me the chef told her it was not undercooked and it was fine. Please do not tell me something is not undercooked! Really? Try again - in this instance the customer is right.

Jeff the bartender was terrific. Very thoughtful and super helpful going over the menu with us. He pours a fabulous drink - Mai Tai, Blood Orange Cosmo and habanero margarita. Food was delicious- cooked perfectly.
