Well, I've been sitting here for 5 and 1/2 hours and still haven't been seen. So sick I can barely sit up. Keep falling asleep against the wall. Also, no apology whatsoever. Definitely a "just deal with it" attitude. Will never come back here.

It took them four hours for me to get an ultrasound and I still don’t have any information on my baby . they wanted to do unnecessary testing to bill me . Does not recommend anyone to come here if you care about your health.

My mom has been waiting in excruciating pain for hours and still no one has even came to check on her. Not one doctor has come to examine her, yet no one is in the emergency area!!!! Like what the heck? Then on top of that, everyone seems to have an attitude as if they hate their job and they don't want to be there! This is beyond ridiculous and unprofessional. Its sad because this is the nearest emergency for many people in the area but I feel like I'd rather travel elsewhere and take a long travel to have good medical help and consistency! I would not recommend this hospital if you're in dire need of medical attention!

I went in regarding severe throbbing frontal migraines and very sore throat, barely able to swallow. I was given a Covid and flu test then some meds in an IV and sat there for 6 hours only to get discharged with notes only mentioning the migraine and no resolution of what the issue was just told that it may be upper respiratory issue. No head scans or anything else. No meds given either. I am still in extreme pain days later and a wasted trip to the ER. I am thoroughly disappointed and very upset

Sat in waiting room after throwing up from a virus, had no help whatsoever as the wait was in the hours area. Ended up feeling better and told them I'm good now and walled out. Got my 2nd letter in the mail asking to pay for work they hadn't done.

They run unnessary test to charge insurance company then send you home with no answers. They act annoyed that they have to work, Seems like everyone there is only there to be paid and not to help people. I think a vet would have helped us more than this place. I dont recommend going here go to beaumont down the street.

Terrible Terrible Terrible. Need to close. You will think that you will get shot by sitting in the waiting room. Takes a long time to get you to the back.

I was met with care and kindness upon entering the ER waiting area. Throughout my time there all the staff were friendly. I felt safe and cared for as an AA women. The wait wasnt long but that could have been due to the time and circumstances of the day and my care needs. Most areas looked clean but i imagine the ER is a heavily used place so it showed wear in places. Would go again for emergency needs.

Really was an eye opening experience. The staff was really numb to the overall care of the patients. They were too busy talk almost each other then attending to patients. When calling patients to the back was not clear it was like a game to them. Many patients have sat so long had dozed off didn’t hear their names, even though I was clearly alert and awake and didn’t understand the young man that hollered my name, so many people were skipped. When I was placed in the back, I was places in the exam room and was told someone would be in there which took about 45 minutes to take my vitals and then another 30 minutes for a resident to tell me that they would Page the on call staff that directed me there. I sat in an exam room for about 4 hours without a single staff to come back and check. No call light, no update nothing. That’s putting it mild. I hope that I will never have to visit this ER ever in the future.

Only go to this ER if you want to go through airport-level security before being allowed in. Hopefully it's not an emergency! The service here is poor at BEST. It's probably best to keep going to a further ER not located at this hospital. Only 1 star because I can't give a 0.

I went to an Ascension urgent care locationduring their posted hours for a very minor injury, and got billed as an ER visit at 10X the cost without consenting to the "upgrade." I asked more than once and it was verbally confirmed each time that my visit was an urgent care visit. Very predatory business practices. The staff's can't be trusted at their word. This hospital system, at any of their locations, should be avoided at all costs. Edit: I spent 8 months attempting to work with the "owner" who responded below to make this right before leaving this truthful review. I made this review to make others aware of their shameful business practices.

Extenders that took care of me was excellent and patient and concerned. I was diagnosed with extreme bronchitis. I was not given a breathing treatment or prescribed an inhaler or anything that would help me. They did send me home with antibiotic prescription. As far as I'm concerned the doctor did not help me at all. I'm having trouble breathing and he doesn't even give me A breathing treatment they did a chest x-ray which proved I did not have pneumonia. The aim that took me to have a chest x-ray was very nice to me and made sure I was comfortable at all times. He went above and beyond. Thank you Claudia Wiess

No communication from hospital staff with primary/caregiver emergency contact. Phone number provided for ED patient Representative was never answered after several attempts to reach someone. Elderly father was admitted from ER last night but I was never contacted by a provider to notify me that he was being admitted. I received a call from a very kind unit case manager early this afternoon requesting information but have still not been contacted by a provider to update me on my dad’s status. I am sensitive to the COVID safety protocols and the need for stricter visitation policies. However, the health system has had plenty of time to perfect a communication process that ensures family is up to date and well informed when visitation is limited/prohibited. Our patient family experience at St. John’s so far would be rated as extremely poor.

Ascension ER nurses are on the move…From the time I checked in until discharge, I saw nurses moving from room to room triage style. I was educated about my diagnosis then the staff took the appropriate steps to make my wait productive and comfortable. I rate this ER above all the hospitals I’ve been to in Metro Detroit. I hope they get all they deserve for their hard work. I’m not sure which MD I had but she was the best I’ve ever encountered, she made me feel calm and positive and again I was educated from the time I walked in until discharge. I feel in control of my diagnosis and not mentally stressed.

Last Tuesday evening I was at the emergency at at. John in Warren. The worst experience ever in my Life. I feel disrespected and violated by the resident. Her attitude was very rude, every time she asked me a question sarcastically I would answer it seemed like a interrogation seemed like she didn’t believe me. She left my curtain open twice in the ER while the other doctor did a vaginal pelvic exam with my legs wide open mind you other patients, doctors, nurses, security guards walking up and down the hallway frequently. I was there from 4:45pm and was discharged at about 3am. I was Told that I have cyst on my right ovary that was 3cm. I was told this at about 2am after so many test and hours. My discharge papers say “Pelvic Pain, Uncertain Cause” I didn’t llook at the discharge papers until I got home. I know that wasn’t smart but I was so tired I’m a mother of three young children and I just wanted to be home in time to get my daughter ready for school. I’m worried about this cyst and if they are lying about it being not that serious as they say. The experience scared me how can you come in a hospital again after thinking you may run into another bunch of doctors that don’t care about your dignity your life. The nurse that placed the IV in my arm jacked me up pretty bad this photo is a week later.

It was a busy night,so my wait time was long. However, the Drs and Nurses interacted with me in a professional , personal manner. I was triaged when I came into the doors. I was admitted awaiting test results, and I have praise and respect for all of the staff, including those who pushed me in the wheelchairs😃Kudos

I have been to this hospital 3 times. I love their service, but the waiting time in ER is insane. With a terrible infection pain and terrible migraine doesnt do very well for 3 and half hours. I thought emergency is supposed to be quick to be treated which is why it is emergency. And the ER room is very cold. Other then that the service of the RN and doctors are appriciated.

I Love this place, when I have to be there. The Nurses are AAAmazing on any given day of the week, but not only are the Nurses great but so are the respiratory unit, the cafeteria technicians, the housekeeping staff and the transporters and last, but not least the Gifted Doctors that take mending and saving lives seriously (at least the ones I’ve encountered here) I Love how GOD is using them in this place. Just amazing.🫶🏽👏🏾👍 Ascension Macomb Hospital

I am absolutely appalled with the level of care from St. John over the weekend. My daughter was there for over 8 hours and many things were overlooked. The attending physician never once came in to talk to her or ask her questions. The resident did, but anytime we had questions, she would have to run it by the attending, which would have been fine had something actually been done. She was supposed to get an IV and meds and after 3 hours, neither came. We were never talked to by the attending UNTIL I put up a fight about them discharging her and never getting the IV/meds. He acted as if we were in the wrong. Only after I said we were taking her home did he offer to get her the IV and meds. His bedside manner was atrocious and I felt bad as he tried blaming the resident. They did not help my daughter when after drinking the 3 cups of water to rehydrate her she had to use the bathroom. We went to the desk and asked for help and no one came. We had to unhook her wires ourselves and help her get to the bathroom. No one stopped us, asked us if we needed help, etc. Not one person. They never asked my daughter (who is 17) how she was doing. They took us at our word when they stopped in once to ask how she was doing. We could have lied and said she was fine just to leave early.

Rushed by ambulance to ER.. I fell off a tall ladder backwards, hit my head hard on cement, large bump, bleeding, and concussion. They did several test in a timely fashion. My only complaint is: before my release the doctor left a young female to wrap things up. She thought I was going to just sit up and walk out the door, I had to tell her to take out the IV and electrode pads! When taking out the IV she did not put any pressure on the area resulting in a huge bleed bump, wow!! I hit my head super hard on cement so of course I had a concussion so I was very dizzy when I sat up. I actually had to tell her I needed a wheelchair. The young gal obviously needs a Lot of training!!

This is one of many horrible hospitals in Detroit. I went in for a stomach bug I was so weak the nurse staff wouldn't give me a wheelchair even tho I came in with one they just took it from me. I went in again the next day, the Dr I saw was so rude to me she was trying to discharge me before I could get my full IV I had to ask to speak to a supervisor in order to receive my full bag. This hospital treats you according to your insurance. Which is unfair and inhuman. I felt so bad I I received no help. I will never come to this hospital again.

Even though they was really busy, we sat patiently. After about 4 hours I went to the desk to see where he was on the list and the lady told me to wait and she went back and got a nurse and said he can go to the Pediatric Department because he just turned 18. They took good care of him. From the front desk to the back they was very kind and professional.

I’m really pleased with the emergency care I received not only by the security officer, clerical and with the medical staff. I felt that I was being well taken care of during an emergency situation. The care continued with a trip to the 2nd floor, where the nursing team were very attentive and caring. I had several nurses but I was really impressed by my nurse Elise. Superior care and knowledgeable. Thank you.

Have been to Ascension twice now for my special needs son. First time we ended up in the Pediatric ICU and they were wonderful, Nuese David is the best! The second time was just the ER and they were good, quick and efficient

On my journey to the emergency room, I was taken in right away. Everyone did a marvelous job, was professional and appeared empathetic to my situation. However one of the nurses was ill. I was concerned about that nurse waiting on me. Care more about your workers.

Not a good experience with emergency walk in on Sunday. We waited almost 4 hours for a urologist. Told them repeatedly right when we came in, that we needed one. They left my dad pretty much unattended with painful bloody urination and messy stools. I had to help him best I could; how embarrassing! They must need more staff or at least more attentive ones! 😢

I brought my 6month old to the ER because he had a 101-102 degree fever, congestion, would barely eat 2oz, and he was inconsolably crying at times. They were very dismissive and just told me that a bunch of viruses were going around. Didn’t run any test or even take a rectal temperature for the most accurate results. When I asked for them to test my child for Covid, RSV and the flu I was told that we would just be waiting another hour and a half for results (which was fine! My baby is sick I could wait all day!), that they no longer automatically swab for those 3 (which was crazy because when I brought him in a couple months ago it was one of the first things they did and it wasn’t even the season for the big 3) and that it didn’t matter what he had because the care plan wouldn’t change. I even tried to explain to them that it could affect the people who we might come in contact with and they still didn’t care. 2 days later I was extremely sick and tested positive for Covid. I work in healthcare and have direct contact with geriatric patients. THANKFULLY I was not at work when I started to experience symptoms, but if I never experienced any symptoms and went to work I could have passed Covid to so many high risk people! When that could have been avoided with a simple swab! They seriously need to do better!!

I've been here since 10:30 am on Sunday 12/3. It's now 3:24 a.m. and I still haven't been admitted. Sure they triaged me at 11:00 a.m. and then again at 8:00 p.m., because they thought I left. They've even done blood work at about 8:15 p.m. I'm here for a blood infection when I arrived it was only in my lower leg leg, but now it's spread to my right lower leg (nice and red and swollen). DON'T COME HERE!!! They triage you so they can start billing your insurance and slap extra care time because you won't be seen for HOURS after they get your vitals. I took a bus here and I've asked them to send me to a different facility but they've refused. Bring something to eat you're going to need it possibly a SNICKERS, because you're not going anywhere for a WHILE!!! The staff is a complete JOKE. They are trained very well in apologizing for their UNGODLY WAIT TIMES!

  • 1/5 Judy A. 5 months ago on Google
Seven hours wait to be seen for x-ray results. Time with nurse & doctor once called was less than 10 minutes. At age 78 and having fallen, very swollen knee replacement, on Plavix, not able to keep heart medication schedule. SO much more that was unpleasant. Surely Triage has lost it’s meaning. Just maybe it would be more compassionate to refer elsewhere. (I checked twice to get an estimate of wait time, only to be given false information.) Or, allow x-ray results to be posted on mychart to be viewed from home when the x-rays are negative. Just common sense and kindness.

Great nurses! Pediatric er wait time to be seen was long. Nurses and Dr were great. Ms. Kim who was my sons nurse, really was awesome. The Dr who had to set and wrap my sons arm was very informative on what he was doing and efficient with the time it took. Overall good experience!

  • 1/5 Jerry M. 2 years ago on Google
We waited 10+ hours. Food and drink is not allowed. The staff was saying rooms were not available for patients to be seen so everyone was stuck waiting indefinitely. We were told leaving early AMA would jeopardize insurance coverage. Actual medical help was mediocre and unhelpful. We are still dealing with billing/coding errors after the fact. Edit: and now it's our responsibility to reach out to their community manager to diagnose their issues.

The emergency room doctor was very kind and considerate. The nurses were sweet and put my 90 year old mother who has dementia and me in the same room. My only problem was with the nurse who discharged me because she left the IV needle in my arm. I had to return to the hospital to have it removed!

My son wouldn’t stop coughing all night. We came in at 4 am. Two doctors saw him. They ordered nothing for us and sent us home. I waited for my pediatrician to open, they gave him a breathing treatment, steroid, and an antibiotic. The Pediatric ER did nothing. Never again.

I come here basically because this is where my neurosurgeon, Dr. Andrey Volkov, works out of. I have always gotten excellent care from the nurses and staff at this facility. Plus the food is pretty good😊.

When I arrived at Ascension St. John, I was immediately told that there were no beds available and the wait time was approximately 4-6 hours. I explained the severity of my condition and informed staff that my OB/GYN instructed me to come in immediately. After the staff pulled my records and I waited an hour and a half, I just left. This has not been my first experience like this at this location.

This is the hospital we use for our families care. I understand that they are short staffed. We need to have patience. But the first person to assess someone coming into the ER needs to have patience as well. They need to be calm, efficient, & considering its a health facility, they need to be empathetic. They need to manage better than the person was last night. Other than the gate keeper. The ER staff handled the situation professionally and did what was needed. Thank you

The doctors and nurses at St Johns Detroit/GPW ER were all very professional and caring. I was amazed how they balanced their time among the people on the unit. I was seen quickly because I almost died. One note: this is an ER, not an Urgent Care, so yes you will been seen after the people with life threatening symptoms. Please go to your local Urgent Care, which is admittedly not 24/7 but if you can sit for 4 - 7 hours, it seems to me your situation is not life threatening. On the other hand, I have a lot of sympathy for people going to ER because our country doesn’t cover everyone with health care and the ER is the place of last resort.

incredible fast and compassionate care for my 90 year old mother who had a traumatic head injury with significant blood loss. The care was expedient, focused with pleasant front desk , orderlies , nurses , technicians and doctors. Great communication regarding her status, her labs and Ct and plan of care. Never once did we fell ignored or like people were too busy.

I would give it a zero if i could. I was there during the early stage of my pregnancy. I was having really bad cramps, thinking i was having a misscarriage. They had me sit in the cold waiting room for 8 hours before i was called to the back and then had to wait hours before i could see a dr. Wheres when i went to hutzel they would take me straight to the back because of pregnancy..
