I lived next to Ellalan Ninavu Thoobi for about 3 years (1957). Only one gravel road was separating it from my compound along Kurunagala Road. What is the view of the eminent archaeologist Pathmanathan and other scholars? An objective approch with international participation is required to find the truth .

(Translated by Google) This is a brick-built building that is close to the Sri Maha Bodhi A great stethoscope. Until recently, this Elara tomb was called. In 1946, Prof. Paranavitana identified this place as the Pohvana stupa. Based on documents, the professor believed that the body of King Dutugemunu was cremated. This is a large brick mound structure, probably an unfinished stupa lying close to sri maha bodhi. Until recently this site was mistakenly identified as the tomb of Elara. This location was identified as the Dhakkhina stupa by Professor Paranavitana in 1946. Based on the chronicles, Professor also believed that this was the place where the remains of the hero of King Dutugemunu's was cremated. (Translated by Google) Located to the south of Jayasrimaha Bodhi. Senarath Paranavithana says that this is the place where Maharaja Dutugamunu was cremated. It is said that Bubuna took the wealth of the King Dutugamunu, who was hired here, to pay the hired soldiers to invade the country. Huge round stupa. You can walk up the stair to see inside of the stupa (It's empty.). I saw it on the way to Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and it looks interesting because of its size and location.

A UNESCO site at Anuradhapura, it was the political and religious capital that flourished for 1,300 years, was abandoned after an invasion in 993. I do not know how you loose a site like this but it was apparently hidden away in dense jungle for many years, the splendid site, with its palaces, monasteries and monuments, is now accessible once again. Leave lots of time to explore and admire.

According to the legends this site was known as the Pulila terrace as there was a growing Pulila tree at that time period and the thero, Mihindu had requested from the King Devanampiya Tissa (307 BC – 267 BC) to cremate his remains here. The legend further states that the remains of King Dutugamunuwere also cremated in this terrace. It is said that this Stupa was constructed and named as Dhakkina thupa by a minister during the reign of King Valagamba (103 BCE and c. 89–77 BCE). The structure was popularly known as Elara Sohona, the tomb of 2nd century BCE king Chola Tamil king Ellalan (c. 205 – c. 161 BC), who invaded Sri Lanka and ruled the Anuradhapura Kingdom for over 40 years. It was popularly believed that King Dutugemunu had built this for King Ellalan, after defeating him in battle. But in the mid-19th centuries James Fergusson a Scottish architect and writer who studied History of Indian and Eastern Architecture, had mentioned (1876) this structure could not be the Elara's tomb. This new identification and reclassification is considered controversial and disputed historical conceptualization in Sri Lankan history.

(Translated by Google) Dakkina Stupa - Anuradhapura This massive ruined stupa is found on its way from the Anuradhapura Junction to the Sri Maha Bodhi. Though there are various opinions on this stupa, the most famous one is the tomb of King Elara. It is called the Dakkhina Stupa because it sits right next to the south gate of the ancient Anuradhapura town. According to Senarath Paranavithana, the remains of King Dutugemunu were buried. The beauty of this beautiful but half-ruined stone pillar depicts the goddess of wealth. Dhakkina Stupa - Anuradhapura This is the Kurunegala junction from Sri Maha Bodhiya leading the road on the left. There are many identifications about this stupa. The most common is where the king Elara had been placed. But according to Senarath Paranavithana, this is the king of the tomb Dutugamunu. The ancient Anuradhapura city of the southern gate and hence this stupa is named 'Dhakkina' (southern) stupa. The stone pillar which is half destroyed in carvings with adorned. There is a figure of godly wealth. (Translated by Google) This stupa is regarded by many as the stupa which was erected to honor King Elara. Archaeologists have been able to confirm that the Dakshin Viharaya is the stupa of the Dakini Vihara inscribed in the 3rd century Brahmi inscription found in the excavations in 1948.

(Translated by Google) To put it bluntly, I don't think it's something you have to see in Anuradhapura, but for the locals this place has a huge historical value (like castles in our country). I believe that this building will find some fans in our country as well. For me, out of respect for the locals and their difficult history 3 *, with the proviso that if you have it on the way, it probably costs five minutes to sacrifice to see .. :)
