Great trail for a sneaker hike. The trail is paved the entire way to the lower and upper falls. It's a beautiful walk through the canyon along the water with little rapids and falls along the way. The lower falls is a great stopping point if you don't want to do more than a mile, but the upper falls are certainly worth the additional mileage. The water is so blue and gorgeous!

If you're looking for a beginner hike that is short, has beautiful views, and is free, then consider this one! I've done this hike twice, both times up to the Ink Pots. It's a beautiful hike for those who do not mind crowds (typically dissipates after Upper Falls). It's only about 1.5-2 hours one way & is an out-and-back trail. Well maintained and people seem respectful of the environment. One small path was blocked but that's a small sacrifice compared to the rest of it. If you want the path as private as possible, you'll need to go when it's dark out. It's open 24/7 so people go whenever pretty much.

Gorgeous hike with stunning views of rushing water, waterfalls and ridges. The trail is paved to lower and upper falls so itโ€™s an easy hike that is primarily done by families. It can get really busy so consider hiking here during the off season. Go to Ink Pots for an optimal hiking experience.

Breathtakingly gorgeous!!!! The trails were challenging enough to be exciting but still very doable with amazing views throughout the entire hike. (Shoe spikes highly recommended). The frozen waterfalls and snow covered pines were amongst the most beautiful sites youโ€™ll ever see. Clean bathrooms were a real bonus!

Johnson canyon is a great place for all ages to go for a hike at all times of year. It is very beautiful and safe. Itโ€™s walkway is paved and has railings. I did this hike in the winter when it was pretty cold out so I suggest you dress accordingly to the weather but we were all fine and the snow covered trees and the frozen water falls were very beautiful. I recommend doing this hike to any one. It is one of my favourite hikers or walks.

This is an absolute must do if you are visiting Banff. What I will warn is that no where does it explain the level of fitness required to do this walk. All the brochures say easy and suitable for all levels of fitness and age...well I have to say I struggled with it. I am in my 50โ€™s and I do have a level of fitness in that I can easily walk 5kms and I swim 1km almost every day but this walk was NOT easy. There is some steep up hill parts albeit short and even the coming down requires use of muscles so that you do not slip. So just a warning to consider. Having said that I did make it and it was very worth while the view from the top falls is AMAZING and we even saw ice climbers in action. If you donโ€™t think you can make it to the top falls, the bottom falls gives you a really good taste of Johnston Canyon and it is easier to get to. We went on a tour but you could easily do it yourself as a lot of people do and then you can take it at your own place and turn around when you like as it is one trail there and back, you cannot get lost.

Definitely must see ! Took two hours with pics stops and going a bit past the upper falls. Medium difficulty hike, but lots of places to stop and rest. If you are semi in shape this will be no problem for you. The falls are gorgeous! The upper falls are less busy. Only downside was it was EXTREMELY busy. Thereโ€™s a cute little shop before you enter the falls - they filled up our water bottles for us which was so nice! Got some cool stickers and a homemade muffin!

A stunning natural gem! Very easy walk until the lower falls. Get there very early am, or plan enough time to line up to have a closer view of the lower falls. The hike to the upper falls is easy, but not as accessible as the way to the lower ones. But definitely worth it! It took us 2 hours in total to the upper falls and back, stopping to take pictures, e enjoying the wildlife. We didn't line up for the lower falls.

Awesome hike. Quick 6km In and out to the top of the falls. You can carry on further to some beautiful views of a mountain valley aswell but that's 3km each way from top of the falls. Trail is maintained and pretty posh. Nice way to get some good easy views and experience the canyon. You can do it in 1.5 hrs if you're fast but 3 hrs at a casual pace.

This is a wonderful site to visit. Be sure to go early in the morning. The hike up the canyon is cool in the morning, but you'll avoid some of the crowds that show up midday and afternoon. The hike to the falls is easy, and takes 30 minutes to an hour depending on the amount of people. We spent more time waiting at the falls to get a turn on the scenic lookouts than we did hiking The hike to ink pots is a little more challenging. Steeper switchbacks, and twice the distance of the falls. It's well worth the effort and to hike back to see them. About 80% of the foot traffic stops at the upper falls. So the trail to the ink pots isn't nearly as crowded.

There are beautiful waterfalls and views, with lots of walking paths going up and down all the time. During summer, you'll find many people there, but it won't prevent you from enjoying nature. Chipmunks and squirrels run towards people to ask for food, adding to the charm of the place. It's a great spot to spend a day away from civilization.

Came in mid-November and the view was stunning. Very manageable trail with crampons on though some parts were still quite slippery and I needed to hold the railing. Was quite crowded even during the off-peak season. Would recommend bringing snacks as the cafe will not be open during non-summer months. This place is accessible by the roam transit.

This was a beautiful spot to visit when in the area. We came on an early Saturday morning. The parking lot was empty and the paths were pretty much clear of people. We ended up going up to also see the Ink Pots. On our way back down, we started to see more people. By the time we made it back to the paths, it was full of visitors and the parking lot was completely full. Definitely worth checking out but will recommend going early if you want to make the most of it.

Always my favorite easy hike! Great for beginners. I do recommend going either very early, or later in the day to avoid the busy times. It makes for a much better experience. This hike has become very popular over the last few years, but still really nice!

This is one of the most popular places in the area. And for good reason. It gives you lots to see in a 2hr walk. Be warned, it gets very busy. Best to avoid weekends if possible. We arrived at 8:30am and it was amazing. No queues, jams or lines of people (much of the walkway is narrow so can get jammed if there are slow people in front, or lots of people travelling the other way). Make sure to go through the tunnel to see the lower falls. Then make your way to see the upper falls. Itโ€™s very rewarding if you do it at a quiet time. Lots of parking spaces but the car park does get full. Good toilet facilities at the car park.

A good trail for beginners and those with kids. The lower falls area about 20 min walk. Good boardwalk with railings all the way. Was beautiful in winter. The final viewing may take 20-30 min based on the crowd.

This is a gorgeous slot canyon with a trail to the lower falls anyone can hike. It is paved but narrow in spots. I saw one lady with a walker. A wheelchair would be tight I think. The views are stunning! At this time the upper falls and furthest hike were closed. Only the lower falls was open. Heavily trafficked. Plan accordingly. If the lot is full you can park at the coffeehouse for $10/day. It is a coffee shop/market at the beginning/end of trail with pastries or meals. There are a lot of road cyclists here so be cautious on surrounding highway.

It is a great place to Hike. I liked the location, and it's worth visiting if you can hike for 5-7 km. The waterfall is really great, and you can enjoy the water flowing by your side as you walk. The pathways are space constraints, and only one person can cross them at various points at one time. Please take water bottles with you as you won't get anything while hiking up.

The best hike anyone can do on this mostly paved, moderately inclined trail to see the many falls that can be found in this canyon. We went up to the last fall but did not continue to the ink pots as we did not have time. We started relatively early in the morning and it was not that crowded. However when we were returning, the first parking lot was full and there were lots of people on the trail. Mostly shaded and easy hike/walk.

Its one of the must visit place in Banff area. Itโ€™s wonderful in all seasons. We went this week in the morning around 8am. Good to visit early like 7 or 8 so that you will get good parking and no need to wait in lines to visit view points like lower and upper falls. Entire route is amazing and well maintained. Dont miss to carry studs , place is very slippery and icy.
