Large zoo with a wide variety of animals. In winter quite a few animals are not available. Still a very nice attraction.

I loved this zoo, not too big, but very nice, in the middle of a beautiful park. There are some very interesting animals like tapir, ant-eater and rhinos. All of these just at arm's length. Outside of the zoo there is a n astonishing beautiful botanical garden. Really enjoyed it and recommend

Wow, we are very impressed with how well the enclosures have been taken care of. The animals looked healthy, and relaxed. The zoo itself was also very clean. There is a nice bird collection and the mom orang-utan with the newborn stole the show for us. A rare sight. The entrance price is also very nice. The zookeepers are also very nice and love to tell you about the animals that they work with. Would definitely recommend to visit this zoo!

Its really nice place to visit with children. Orangutans and south American animals are special attraction. Its very refreshing to spend time in nature. I have seen Peacock so close from 50 cms distance which walks around the zoo freely. Animals are treated well and taken good care of. It costs 8€ for entrance & 2€ for parking, its cheap when compared to other zoos in this region.

The zoo is located just near the Hacheny station and is accessible easily with U Bahn. No instructing brochure or map. A selection variety of animals. In my opinion, most not kept in optimal condition. It can be a good and instructive day for the kids though. Restaurants, Cafe and WC available. The highlight of the zoo are Rhinos and the Urangutans. I personally am not a fan of or pro zoos. We keep other creatures in captivity with cruelty. It should be really heartbreaking for the animals behind the fences to see that the other birds fly in and out the fences freely.

This zoo is very nice! For €7,50 per adult and free parking in October the price is really low. The majority of people says this zoo is small but I disagree and think this zoo is actually pretty large. A lot of well made habitats, however I do have to agree that some look like they could use a little attention. But this zoo is based on naturalism, so I think it’s fine. A lot of opportunities to see animals from up close and take good photos. Also some (very )special species, like the black jaguar, clouded leopard and red panda. If you want to you can spend the whole day here, there’s enough to watch. Most of the animals are very active, unlike in many other zoo’s where the majority of the animals are sleeping. The only negatives were the constructions, which made it impossible to see some animals. Also, the animal information in mainly only German and mostly cash only payments at food stands. But overall, especially for the price this park is very good! There were also very little people, al though we did visit on a Monday.

Great value for the price. Did not know what to expect before we went, and was pleasantly surprised by what we got to see for the price ee paid. Sadly some animals were not in their habitat because of construction projects. Disclaimer: don't expect a premium zoo.

Small zoo but nicely maintained. You can see panda, 🦓 giraffe 🦒 Emu and others. The Dortmund Zoo, in full Zoologischer Garten der Stadt Dortmund, is the zoo of the German city of Dortmund which was opened on 1958. The zoo is home to around 1500 animals from around 240 species. Zoo Dortmund is best known for the large collection of South American animal species.

Small Zoo, but perfect for spending a couple of hours. We hvae visited during early March when it was not a season, but still nice, and in spring or summer I can imagine it is even better as Zoo is in perfect park where botanical garden is. You can reach the Zoo with U49 and than walk like 500 meters.

Small zoo with its fair share of animals. Easily walkable. The staff at the front desk was really helpful, although, they only took cash for tickets and no cards. Since it was off season so the cafeteria was closed for renovation.

Nice large zoo with friendly staff. 3€ parking fee that has to be paid with cash. Some free parking space further away. Map is included in price. Feeding times are naturally the best time to visit. There are few small places to eat. We visited Indian style place. Portions were large and pretty good. Worth visiitin. Child friendly.

Hier macht man nichts falsch.

The animals are of course great. The zoo needs to be expanded. The space for the giraffes is so small for their necks. The lions den doesn't even have enough space to keep them active. But it's a fun place for kids. And the restaurant and playing ground areas makes it more accommodating for children

Pretty fun experience, there was some renovations going on when we visited and it was very quiet too so it felt a bit empty, but there were lots of animals on display. You can interact with a good amount of them too

This is a beautiful zoo with wildlife everywhere. Chickens run freely, and the exhibits and enclosures are generous. The staff is kind and thoughtful. The animals seem well-cared-for. It will take the whole day to see the zoo plan accordingly.

Quite a nice zoo, right next to a big park. The tickets are very cheap for a zoo. Lots of interesting animals. Few animals I haven't seen before are the big capibara, alpacas, armadillo and sloths. Parking is free (there were no gates nor parking ticket to buy), big parking lot too. Feeding times were stated on a board at the entrance. Pinguins swimming walking for fish, lion getting a rabbit, apes getting fruit. Saw some other animals getting fed at around 5, like the giraffe. Highly recommend to see how they eat leaves from thorny vines with their super long tongue. A restaurant in the middle had some nice crunchy fries.

(Translated by Google) I am glad to have been back last week, incomprehensibly the zoos were closed by the politicians. I don't know what should happen outside in the fresh air on the paths. Unfortunately the animal houses were closed, I can understand that and I could live with that. Another visit is due later ☺😉 a lot of animals in very beautiful enclosures, which is being diligently converted to make the animals even more beautiful. Unfortunately, the baby rhinoceros did not see it, it was probably too cold outside, only mom was outside 🙁 or the little one was kept inside because of the cold, but it's okay. It shouldn't get sick. The sugar-sweet meerkats compensated me for this, there were two babies running around 😍😍 I love the meerkats 😀😍 There are enough parking spaces, currently they were free, but the 2 euro parking fee according to the label on the guard's house is perfectly fine. Unfortunately no restaurants open due to the current situation, but what I saw seems to be good if it is allowed to open again. I wish the zoo and everyone else all the best and that they survive this terrible time and don't have to close forever, everything is currently being destroyed in Germany, what will happen later if everything breaks?

Spart from restrictions because of covid and site and building improvements interesting + versatile zoo/park, the staff, especially the zoo guide seem to to know everything + convey this wonderfully comprehensible to the visitors.

A lot of animals inside for the winter and all the animal houses closed because of COVID so did not see that many animals. Although signs everywhere saying masks and socially distance, vast majority had no masks on. Saw only one other family wearing masks. Tannoy announcements saying to wear masks but not actually being enforced.

Lots of animals to see. The lions and some other animals are not there as they are carrying out renovation on certain areas. However there is still lots of other cool animals to see and there are playgrounds for the kids. There is even a petting zoo a favourite with the little ones (just checked beforehand the opening hours has they are not always open).

Our family is happy to have the opportunity to go to a zoo in Dortmund, especially our little one. I experienced very supportive staff. It's a comparatively small zoo. Looking forward to experience this place in summer. In addition to animals, one can enjoy small food stalls, a large playground, and a petting zoo.

Free entry for students upon proof! Very nice. Small zoo but enclosures looked nice. Lots of different species of birds.

A lovely zoo, €19 entry fee for 2 adults and 4 kids. It’s only a pity that there are many places closed in the zoo. They are under construction.

i think it’s debatable if zoos are animal cruelty, and i’m not going into this topic…this zoo is very nice! i think it’s not as small as people think it might be. it isn’t enormous but if you are a quick walker, you can have the whole zoo through in 3 hours. the cages are quite big for the most part, and they’re doing construction so they can have more space for the animals which is very good so i’m not gonna complain. one star off because the signs are a bit confusing sometimes, but maybe we just didn’t look right. the prices in this zoo, for drinking are very expensive, i think the food prices are okay. but if you wanna grab some water, do it somewhere else. in general, a nice zoo! but please if you take children teach them to not scream at the animals, that’s just not nice and they are scaring them away

Very good for kids and even adults, cheap. Unfortunately in winter not all animals are visible, some prefere to hide. Only second time we saw the lions. You can spend the whole day there, its not small. Many tables and places to poc nic.

Brilliant. Shame about the building work but you have to update and upgrade at sometime. Some different animals here like Amur leopard and anteaters.

The location was really good, the diversity of animals also was astonishing. Walking in the forest in a rainy day was full of positive feeling . Also, except the lions that are fair, I would rather call it a miniature zoo.Lol

The location of the zoo is really beautiful, best animal was Giraffe, lion was so thin and we could finish the whole park with 3 hrs walk

It was a nice decent zoo. A good place for family hang out. It also has a nice playground. Though i will recommend the description of the animals should also be in English but in all was a beautiful place

Great experience. Weather was good. Fresh environment. Food outlets in the zoo for refreshing. Complicated to explore the whole zoo without getting lost.
