This was my second time to Giverny. (The first was 30 years ago.) No surprise, the gardens were beautiful, the pond was beautiful, the flowers up close were beautiful BUT - and this is a big BUT - the crowds were too much, in both the house and the gardens. It was honestly stressful to try to walk along the paths because there were so many people crammed onto the grounds. I’m used to going to gardens to be reflective and to enjoy the experience. The crowds made it unpleasant (And this was a Monday. Imagine what it would be like on the weekend!) That’s why I gave the Monet house three stars instead of five. I have no desire to go back, no matter how pretty my pictures turned out. I actually felt anxiety amidst the crowds. I’d like to make a recommendation to the Foundation, if that doesn’t seem to pompous: please only allow a certain number of people on the grounds every day. Charge a little more to make up for what you might lose in ticket sales. But please reduce the number of people – and regulate (stagger) the times so that the there are not thousands of people, trying to navigate a place that is supposed to be tranquil and contemplative. (In my photos, I waited for people to pass – so you can’t see the crowds - but trust me, they were there!)

It’s lovely to visit - the natural beauties are overwhelming and delightful. The place itself could use more directions as we went back and forth and got a little lost - but how bad is it to get lost in a little paradise? The house is nice and interesting inside and full of works of art - too crowded - but worth it.

This is a must see if you’re in the Normandy area (it’s also not too far from Paris either). Whether you are an art fanatic or have never heard of Claude Monet before, there is much to see as you walk through Monet’s colorful house and beautiful gardens. There’s many unique areas for you to pose for social media photo opportunities, but trust me when I saw the beauty of this place will be what you want to take the most pictures of. Both gardens were like anything I had ever seen before.

I took my first trip to Paris with my then 6 year old son, Xavier, in May 2019. We visited lots of places on our 14-day vacation. On our visit to Monet's House and Garden, we had a picturesque spring day. The drive to the cottage was wonderful as well as the drive back into Paris. The sunshine made the flower and water gardens come to life! I captured a million photos including pics with the garden staff. The tour of the house was like walking through time. It felt truly Parisian country cottage and explains why Monet was so inspired here. Monet was a huge collector of Japanese prints and there are over 200 throughout the house. The living room/studio houses many of the master's great works and I was shocked to see how open they were to the public. There is even a Renoir hanging in the hallway on the way to Monet's bedroom (MIND-BLOWN). I highly recommend this tour as it was an incredible experience!!

A very special place to visit to see the work of this great painter. The garden is well laid out and signposted. Lots of photo opportunities as well as time to reflect on the beauty of the planting. The house is a bonus to see how Monet lived, his work, the amazing views of the garden from the house. Timed tickets. Spend about 3 hours. The gift shop is good value and there is something for everyone in terms of price options. Places to eat and drink in the village. Parking is well organised. Couldn’t give 5 stars as staff made us wait an hour in the sun due to staffing issues with no regard to the bill elderly members of the group.

There can be no doubt that this is a most beautiful place to visit, but I'd definitely recommend- *Book tickets in advance *Go outside of school/public holidays *Plan your visit for when the water lilies are in bloom! We went on Easter Sunday and it was VERY busy (fortunately I'd bought tickets in advance) and sadly the lake was bare- BUT it did not detract from the wonderful time we had. The village of Giverny is well worth a stroll around too if you can take in so much beauty in one day!

Such a beautiful place! Worth the trip. It gets crowded quickly, so go as soon as it opens. I walked through Monet’s house, the 2 gardens, and the gift shop in about 2 hours. Less than that may be a bit rushed.

The house and garden where Monet spent his final years and painted some of his most famous pieces such as the water lilies or the bridge. An interesting visit and a good source of inspiration for artists. The village of Giverny itself is also quite cute despite the "tourist effect"

(Translated by Google) How not to go if you love Monet, this place is magnificent, so flowery that you forget the bad weather. It is absolutely necessary to see in real life all that inspired these last paintings. Without forgetting that the whole village is like this house, well done for all the work provided. I visited Claude Monet's garden and house with my husband. We were both taken back by how beautiful the garden was with all different sorts of flowers including the beautiful water lillies. We then went to visit the house which again was beautiful and well maintained with all the history of Claude Monet and his artistic paintings. The drive down the country lanes to the place was so relaxing and a beautiful experience of nature at its finest. Recommend everyone to visit if you get a chance.

Beautiful flowers in the gardens, wasn’t too busy and could explore with ease. Enjoyed looking around the house, there is so much to see so I would take your time. So much in the Claude Monet shop too for those who love his work there are cool gifts to buy. Everywhere is clean and tidy a lovely afternoon exploring.

Lovely gardens bursting with colour. Many paths are roped off so it's very crowded as people can't move! House is always very busy. The village of Giverny is worth a stroll around up to the Church to see Monet's grave. 2 hours should be enough time to go around both gardens. There is a lovely giftshop and a restaurant down the road.

Wonderful and moving experience. The home is charming and loaded with art (not Monet's but special nevertheless), photos, and furnishings to recreate how Monet lived in a key mature part of his artistic life and after achieving rare "success while still living". Although the gardens have been replaced, they did so with the greatest effort to make it exactly as it was. The garden is absolutely lovely as well as the pond where waterlilies and other masterpieces were painted. The village is lovely as well. Great experience.

VERY NEAT FOR A MONET FAN. This was a great detour on our way to Normandy. Parking is challenging though if you wait king enough someone leaves. When we came there was also a market (Sunday morning) so that made parking even more difficult. We did not have advance tickets and only waited in line for 5 mins to purchase. The gardens and ponds are amazing. The flowers are incredible. The house is really neat as It has his first studio with replica paintings. The feel of the gardens shows how one of the great impressionists could be motivated to paint. It was beautiful.

Beautiful, one of a kind place. It makes one wonder if Monet was more of a gardener than a painter. Once on site, it was easy to see where he got his inspiration. Beware, get there early as it gets overwhelmingly crowded.

Well worth a visit. Free parking/overnight for Motorhomes. We really enjoyed it,a completely different experience to visiting similar properties in the UK. No restrictions on photography or touching, very laid back. Amazing to see the Monet’s garden and pond would definitely recommend it. The gift shop is excellent also!

Wonderful gardens but so very busy! Line at 30 min after opening was 2.5h long. Even longer when we were leaving. I'm thinking, get there an hour before opening (09:30 for our visit). Japanese garden is certainly the highlight. Very beautiful.

Beautiful and well laid out garden. I visited in last week of April and the flowers were in full bloom. Even though, I could not see the water lilies during this time, the surrounding area of the pond is serene. Monet's house has a lot of art collection as well. Since the garden is not too huge, it tends to get crowded. So try visiting as early as possible

Highlight of my recent Paris trip! Quite straightforward reaching this place (by train and then shuttle bus; signs are very clear once you reach Vernon). My recommendation is plan the trip yourself but buy entry tickets in advance. Spent about 3 hours here. Loved browsing the shop too. Even though it was crowded - I came in summer, there are little pockets of quiet where you can sit around and just soak in the atmosphere of this beauty of a place.

We found it to be incredibly overrated. Visiting the house and the gardens in August (at the height of the tourist season) didn't help: something feels very wrong about seeing a never-ending flow of people in what used to be a supremely quiet and remote place which served the painter's inspiration. It was so crowded that there was a huge line just to get into the house: why make people buy tickets in advance if you're going to make them wait in line anyways? The place just isn't as incredibly beautiful as we'd imagined it to be, at least the magic didn't work for us, and I think the way they're trying to squeeze every penny out of it instead of providing people a qualitative and immersive experience has a lot to do with it.

It was a very beautiful place. I visited in mid-October and it was wonderful. It was not crowded and I didn't have to wait in line, so it was comfortable. I think it might be crowded in spring, but I would like to visit in each season. I am truly grateful for preserving and sharing such a wonderful place.

Deserves six stars. Very enjoyable visit, thanks to the friendly staff, safe visiting route and efficient reservation system. The garden is really beautiful. Not only well kept, but it also still gives you all the impressions you need to understand how Monet came to paint his works like he did.

Monet's garden and house are absolutley wonderful. Its amazing to see many familiar scenes in real life. We bought timed tickets and even though it's a Sunday in September it was quite popular so I was glad for the pre-purchase. Covid regulations are quite good and masks required all of Giverny not just garden. At various places there were attendants that would spray your hands with disinfectant (entrance, house entrance, gift shop). The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is they could benefit from designating some paths one way. Due to layout it wouldnt be all paths but it would help with flow. The paths are quite narrow. Constantly having to squeeze by people not the greatest in best of time. Especially irritating and not best practice during corona. All in all enjoyable my comments are to give best onsite during corona times.

I had a lovely time here. Free parking located nearby. Torrential downpour was unfortunate, but the trees helped keep the rain light. The house was incredibly beautiful, and offered stunning views of the garden. Great pictures, great scenery. Must see spot!

Worth the visit. Its a small place (house and garden) but the flowers and the paintings in the house are so, so beautiful. You probably will spend maybe 3 hours max. Can have a lot of visitors, so need to be patient when taking pics. Also, the shop at the end is super interesting! Couldn't resist to buy something!!

Beautiful gardens. Visited in August 2023. Many flowers in bloom. Visited the house. Couldn't really take your time in the house due to the number of visitors. Arrived for opening 9.30am. Well worth the time here

OUTSTANDING. This was a major highlight of a two week trip around France. Giverny is given over to the memory and brilliance of Monet. The house and gardens are more than worth the 11 € entrance fee. While a busy tourist attraction, the stunning experience outweighs the crowds. Good parking, There is a two post CCS EV charger. Good cafés and restaurants. The Foundation shop is a treasure trove of everything Monet, as you would expect. Have fun in there!!

It’s highly recommended to visit Monet’s house, and water garden when in Giverny. It provides a perspective and understanding on how this place inspires him in his paintings and how he lived. We absolutely loved the water garden. Even though there were many people one can still feel peace and tranquility walking through the water canals and many beautiful flowers present in the garden. His home was no less charming as well. Highlighting how the artist lived and worked in the past. Do purchase your tickets in advance.

Hard not to give this 5-stars as it’s glorious. That said it was very busy with long queues to access the house. A Saturday in June was great time of year for flowers but less good for numbers of visitors. Good value and well worth every euro

We went on Ascention Tuesday which is a public holiday in France so very busy. The queue for tickets was horrendous and a lack of signal made it impossible to order online when you are there. Buy them beforehand! Once in, it was beautiful and well worth the visit. Appears to be very popular with the French, which is a good sign.

Words can not describe the beauty of seeing all the varieties of flowers and trees. The beautiful lily pads and the serenity you feel as you walk the same paths of Monet in his gardens.

Nice day out not far from Paris. Perfect for those who like art and art history. Was a bit crowded when I went in June though, so maybe check best time to go before hand. A couple of other galleries around and cute little village, so perfect for those who like little walks in the country side.

  • 4/5 Steve E. 7 months ago on Google
Beautiful setting and surrounding town. We visited in September, which was great weather and wonderful flowers. The Monet house and garden was very crowded with narrow paths. Must be worse in summer. Also a substantial walk from public/bus parking.

  • 5/5 Paul S. 3 years ago on Google
Phenomenal! I was here in late October 2020, just before the annual closure, and thanks to Corona there were very few people around. I had never come here before in my life, fearing the crowds. But I definitely do not regret having come now. This is positively one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful, gardens in the world. A total must see if you can avoid the crowds. Mid week, and October, is probably the best time of the year.

  • 5/5 Rhonda D. 7 months ago on Google
It was an incredible time at the Monet Gardens and house. We did this as a cruise ship excursion and while it made for a long day it was so worthwhile. Even in Mid-October there were still flowers blooming. We enjoyed wandering through the grounds and touring the house.

If you love art and nature/garden, you should visit this place during Spring! To get there, you could take the TER (train) and then you will get a shuttle bus from the station to the location. Once you reach there, you will have to walk for like 5 minutes to reach the garden. If you are hungry or want to take something quick, there are a few restaurants and takeaway places outside of the garden. Keep in mind that if the ticket is single entry, you cannot exit the place and come back, in case you gets hungry! ;) So the place, I really loved the garden, which was peaceful and beautiful at the same time. I spent quite sometime in the garden before entering to the Monet’s house. The house is filled with his and many other artists works, which are amazing. Also, do lots of forget to go to the other side of the garden where you could find small water canal and a pond. I spent almost 2-3 hours there and then grabbed a small sandwich from one of the takeaway shops after exiting from the place. Also, one more suggestion, try to go in the morning time slot, something near 10:30 a.m. for a better experience. I will highly recommend you to visit this amazing place at least one time!

The Fondation Monet is a must-visit for any fan of Impressionist art. The house and gardens are beautifully preserved, and it is easy to see why Monet was inspired by them. The gardens are especially stunning in the spring and summer, when the flowers are in bloom. I would recommend visiting early in the day to avoid the crowds. The staff at the Fondation Monet are friendly and helpful. They were happy to answer our questions about Monet and his work. We also enjoyed the guided tour, which gave us a deeper understanding of the gardens. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at the Fondation Monet. It is a truly special place that everyone should visit at least once

Absolutely stunning ... a total must visit. The kind of place that justifies the trip. The gardens are the centre piece of Giverny but it's reflections has benefited the whole village. Plan you day to allow strolling in the streets as well. Allow for 1 to 2 hours to visit the garden ... more if you want a bit of a zen moment. The kind of place you also want to visit at different times of the year. Check online for access rules as numbers need to be managed in peak season. When I visited access was unrestricted but found the place to be very crowded ... too many visitors to my taste but then again one can't have the garden to him/herself.

Amazing place! You should come and visit this living art history in the most famous gardens of the french impressionism. Giverny is a lovely place where you can arrive easily by train at Vernom and take a bus or a rental bike to go to the Claude Monet foundation. Also visiting by car going from Paris is a smooth and quick travel.

We drove easily from Paris to Giverny and parked on the free Verger’s parking lot. 13:30 was perfect for us to visit the house and the gardens. Worth the drive and the wait (line) to discover beautiful paintings of him especially when you can get up close !

  • 3/5 Arie R. 9 months ago on Google
So touristic and so crowded, that we had to remind ourselves that we're here because of Monet's genius. Although the gardens are nice, in my view - it all became a purely touristic "cash cow". Hordes of people everywhere, so you cannot enjoy the scenery, place's spirit (totally lacking) or Monet's house interior. At 11 Eur per head, the value is very low.

Is such a funny story behind as since 2 years ago we try to visit and almost always over slept. This time we made it and worth the experience. The departure was Gare San Lazare easy to reach no matter where are you staying. I have used train online however you can chose to buy on site your ticket and the adventure can start. The trip is easy. 1:15 journey. Once arrive you have many option from buses, tourist train and bikes. Is a nice coffe bar don’t look with critical eyes the owner is so funny and rent bikes. We have chose the bike ride for adventure and was amazing, the scenery worth the pain from next day. Is a beautiful cycle path on the riverside, forest both sides and you will cross a beautiful sunflower field that looks like a sky with thousands of sun. A must to book your ticket in advance to avoid queue and than let yourself transported in the world of Monet. Is just so magical, open in me the desire to redesign my garden and plant flowers. The water Lilly pond, his house that beautiful yellow coloured kitchen to blue is just make you dream. The choice to eat after is not advisable not at the Nymphs Restaurant I neither bother to give them 0 review as we just walked out after 25 min wait with the restaurant half empty and very disrespectful staff. I will advise to be creative and have picnic on your way back in the fields and be authentic, enjoy the sunset and completate.

Very beautiful garden and house, you can really see the places of his famous paintings. Something to note that in the low season and pandemic the place was full of people, I can only imagine it at high season.

My family visited Giverny in very early October. What a delight! The gardens were magnificent! To see the water lilly pond, the bridge crossing over it, and the wild array of colours was to get a sense of what moved Monet to paint it over and over again. I can't wait to revisit Giverny on my next trip to France. I want to go more toward the summer to see the gardens in full bloom. It's just a short train ride from Gare Saint-Lazare and a quick bus ride to Giverny. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, a nice prelude to what awaits at the artist's gardens! After visiting, plan to stop in at the Orangerie in Paris to see the huge Monet's. You will get a good sense of how he was inspired!

Great place to visit and see a number of beautiful flowers. The place is well maintained, the diversity of flowers, I beleive it looks better than when Monet actually lived there 😁

Well, the gardens are beautiful, I have seen better ones. It’s a bit small and you will have to spend at least half a day including transportation. I did love the house itself. I went there during COVID so it wasn’t too packed with people. Can’t imagine the experience with so many people in the narrow paths.

Famous & worth you travel, time & money. If you like these kind of things. Very beautiful & peaceful lush green gardens & interesting house. We rented bicycles outside the train station for the same price as the shuttle. It’s not a bad ride at all

Just as beautiful as I imagined it would be. Tip: go early as soon as they open. We got there in the afternoon and it was filled with people. It made it challenging to take a pic or two. We got lucky with the others there as they were gracious enough to give others time to take pics. :)

Wonderful visit to Claude Monet's house and gardens...also during this virtual time, so few people were there so we were able to see each room without the pushy crowds....the garden was filled with autumn flowers of every shade of purple and yellow...it was my best visit to this corner of paradise...closed between November and April....merci Monet.
