There are three Serbian Orthodox churches in Dubrovnik : - A large, holy temple dedicated to the Holy Annunciation is located in the Old Town - built 1877 year - The smaller church of the Holy Archangel Michael is located next to the Orthodox cemetery on Boninovo - The oldest, and also the smallest church of St. George, is bordered between houses and plants on Posat, just above the city walls. The history of the Serbian church in Dubrovnik is turbulent and burdensome for the struggle for the rights and dignity of the Orthodox people. Today In Dubrovnik everything is the Serbian - as if not On the tourist prospectuses that Croatia printed for the Catholic Christmas and New Year, all the names of Serbian institutions in Dubrovnik were "translated" into Croatian and not marked as Orthodox. Thus, the temple in the center of the city was called the Church of the Holy Blessing, and the church and cemetery in Bonin were left without a mark that they were Serbian. - One should not be surprised by the falsification of Orthodox and Serbian names,. This process involves falsifying the Serbian history of the city, denying the Cyrillic alphabet, silencing the Serbian Orthodox Church and threatening the Serbian inhabitants of this city - Dragan Drakulic, a believer of the Church of the Holy Blessing, whom we met in the temple port, told us. When asked about the number of Serbs today, he did not know how to answer precisely: - There are only 1,164 in the list, and unofficially about 3,000. People live in fear of the Ustashas and are afraid to declare themselves as Serbs. Serbs in Dubrovnik and his Herzegovina hinterland in the Middle Ages were the majority. In the city and the Republic of Ragusa, Serbian was spoken, "both from the clerical, from the nobles, both at home and in the municipality," wrote the historians of that time. The new Croatian state turned this fact into the claim that the Dubrovnik Republic spoke and written - Latin. SERBS as tourists, 230 Serbs from Serbia were registered in Dubrovnik this year. Since the 15th century, the Serbs in Dubrovnik have been cremated, but their national identity has not been suppressed. In the second half of the 19th century Dubrovnik was a cultural and economic center of the Primorska Serbs. According to the census of the Austrian authorities of 1890, of the 9,713 inhabitants of Dubrovnik, 5,283 citizens were forced to speak Serbian, while there were no citizens who speak Croatian. - Croatia falsified this fact by publishing Serbian songs as "Croatian folk songs" at the end of the 19th century, which caused the resistance of the Serb Catholics. This started with the process of the crushing of Catholic and Orthodox Serbs in Dubrovnik, Serbian Orthodox Church of St.Annunciation as the main Serbian institution and place for the gathering of Dubrovnik Serbs, was built in 1877. . Next to it is the Museum of the SPC icon, with 78 Orthodox works from the 15th century and 18 portraits of famous Serbs, as well as a Serbian library with 12,000 volumes, which, unfortunately, is closed. - Before the Second World War, Orthodox Serbs with Serb Catholics in Dubrovnik represented a large social unit, so the Dubrovnik and Serbian flag always flared at the municipal building on Stradun. Today is no longer the case. The Serbs in Dubrovnik are being persecuted, and various falsehoods have been found against them, and our holy ones have been turned away, our interlocutor points out. In recent years, the Croatian state has renovated the Serbian Orthodox Church in Stupa No. 8, but continued to avoid indicating that the Temple and the Museum's icon are the property of the SPC. The authorities also extinguished two Orthodox chapels that existed in the Dubrovnik prison and hospital. Threats and attacks do not stop. At the SPC temple in 2013, a threat of "Serbs on the willow" was printed, on one banner "Cyrillic march from Vukovar", and on cars with Belgrade registration this year - "You are not welcome" and "Storm of 1995". The perpetrators are not caught.

Simply amazing church with many beautiful hand painted pictures. The Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Annunciation was built in 1877 for the Dubrovnik Serbian community by the architect Marina Groppelia. It has to be mentioned that this church is still active. If you visit the old town of Dubrovnik then it's a must visit sightseeing, highly recommended to everyone.

I initially noticed the Church of the Annunciation whilst on a walking tour of the city, but was almost entirely distracted by the array of stray cats that appear to have made their home in its immediate vicinity. On my return visit, I ensured that I was copiously armed with cat treats, but found that I was swiftly admonished by a church official when I attempted to feed them within the small courtyard! Thankfully, just a few moments later, all of the cats leapt down into the adjacent thoroughfare as a wonderful elderly lady appeared with a bag full of cat supplies ... including wet food and fresh water ... They are clearly loved here, at least by some! 😺The church itself is well worth a few minutes of contemplation, replete with sacred icons, as one would expect. There is a particularly striking painting of the Annunciation, to the right hand side of the iconostasis, which shows a female archangel informing Mary that she is to become the most important woman in history. Mural of Last Supper above the screen, Judas, of course, seen with his back against the group.

Beautiful church, too bad that the people who established this church and Dubrovnik hundreds of years ago were first forced to take Catholicism, then were destroyed in the most inhumane way by the fascists, and finally ethnically cleansed in early 90s.

The Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Annunciation was built in 1877 in Neo-Byzantine style for Dubrovnik Serbian community. The church houses a valuable collection of icons, some even dating back to the 15th century. It also has a library with around 12 000 books, among the valuable ones is a New Testament printed in Kiev in 1703. The Church of Michael the Archangel in Boninovo, on the Serbian/Greek-Orthodox cemetery, is another Dubrovnik Serbian-Orthodox churh, built in 1836.

Pretty orthodox church that is calm and chilly. We came in with my young son who fell asleep in my arms. We stayed there for me than twenty minutes so we could all rest. A peaceful moment.

This is a smaller church with not a ton to see. It's interesting to visit and is different than the other churches in Dubrovnik. Most people would be happy spending a couple minutes here and moving on.

(Translated by Google) The only Orthodox church is the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Dubrovnik. 1877 year of construction by architect Marina Groppelia. The snow-white temple is made in the characteristic for ecclesiastical architecture in the Neo-Byzantine style and stands out against the background of the traditional architecture of Dubrovnik. The famous museum of icons belongs to the temple. A unique collection of ancient icons of the XV-XIX centuries is kept in the museum, as well as antique furniture, religious artifacts such as a facsimile edition of the Miroslav Gospel of 1897 and the Gospel in Russian in the metal cover of 1805, printed in Moscow. The church also owns a library of about 12,000 books.

(Translated by Google) As far as I know, this is the only Orthodox church in Dubrovnik. Cozy, sincere, in front of the entrance on the right there is a church shop where you can buy something from church utensils. It is located approximately in the middle of the old city, on one of the main streets. Cats will be greeted at the entrance) (Original)

Nestled in the back streets of old town Dubrovnik you'll likely stumble across this when exploring. One of the first things you'll probably notice is the large amount of cats lying around. They seem to congregate around the church, perhaps because they know they won't be distributed here. The church itself was very pretty, with striking blues at the back of the church. I'd recommend popping in and having a look if you are in the area.

A bit of climb up to this church behind the cathedral. Interior is as expected in Catholic Croatia. Big flight of stairs down to town again.

The Church of Holy Annunciation is located in the Old Town of Dubrovnik and a must visit if you have the chance. There were a lot of cats in front of the big gates and that caught my attention, but as soon as I stepped inside, I was completely blown away by its beauty and history.

For hundreds of years, Dubrovnik pact with Rome that they will never allow churches from any religion, but the Catholic. Thank god that they ended up being more open minded on that topic, because the church is simply gorgeous. from the inside and outside. And I'm not even a religious person.
