In contrast, the view to the west reveals how green the Ruhr area is in many places. Almost nothing of the buildings there can be seen under the towering green treetops. The path from the Rhine dike up to the dump is wide and well developed. Since the heap is not very high, the path is not too long or difficult. With a little sporting ambition you can also cycle up there. The quite large summit plateau is intentionally kept quite bare and offers numerous biotopes for a diverse range of flora and fauna. The Rockelsberghalde viewing point is very popular at the turn of the year. From there you can wonderfully watch the fireworks in the Duisburg night sky.

The eastern bank of the Rhine borders Duisburg-Hochfeld and is characterized by the mining industry where high chimneys protrude. The western bank is predominantly characterized by nature and large green meadows. As soon as you climb the heap you notice that the path up is generously developed. Heavy machinery probably used to go up there when the dump was still in operation. Compared to other dumps, the highlight of the dump is simple. You will find a simple platform made of gravel, which is bordered by a stone fence. Nevertheless, the platform offers a 360° view with the special features mentioned. Tip: North of the dump is a recently renatured dump and the Werthauser Wardt nature reserve. A walk here is recommended.
