I enjoy visiting this place. Its right behind the tram station. Good music, nice staff and incredible brazilian food.

Very atmospheric place, one of the key spot for Santa Teresa district, with decent old school caipirinhas, giant portions of rustic dishes and lovely live music... usually pretty packed by the mix of locals and tourists... ♥️

It's supposed to be authentic food but given the crowds it's probably catering to the tourists - the price certainly feels that way. Decent food but nothing special. The main reason for going is its a stop on the tram line and probably one of the best along that route.

Stopped here for a late lunch and had a great time, it’s a very lively restaurant with live music and plenty of people. You will have to pay a ‘cover’ charge for the music. The food was very good - we got the Feijoada, the beans were perfect! One of the best I’ve had.

Tourist trap. Expensive food and tiny portions. I had to eat again after dinner there. Food quality also not the best. Service is just a joke. Don't go there!

We passed by on a Sunday afternoon during lunch time and this place was completely packed with a mix of young cariocas and tourists. Quite some gay couples and groups of friends too. During the evening we returned to have dinner. Not as busy at all. We had some lime, pineapple and passion fruit caipirinhas and than dinner. I had the "Escondidinho de Carne Seca" - Beef Jerky Surprise, usually not too big. They came in full and half sizes, I chose half "meia" it was gigantic!! But good... Left over half the portion.

Nice vibe, average drinks. The random $10 ‘gringo tax’ on the bill was a nice little treat.

Very tasty typical food with live music. As in every place in Rio, you will be charged a couvert artistico, which is less than 2€ really. Portions are huge, so would recommend ordering half portions.

Nice busy place, great location (right next to the tram stop). Good food (this was our very first impression of traditional Brazilian food), and also, a good choice to try caipirinha (definitely not for me, but everyone that comes to visit Brazil should at least give it a try). Service was surprisingly fast considering the restaurant was packed and we barely managed to find a table.

Stopped at Portella on our walk back from the Tram in Santa Teresa. The atmosphere, service and food was amazing! We had the Frango À Passarinho and the Picanha Grelhada with an ice cold Antarctica beer 😋 Saúde!

Characteristic. Food and service ok, nothing special. Negative note, we had to pay for the live music service ?! Maybe in Rio it is normal, but it was the first time this happened to us!

It was ok, nothing special! The meat was chewy and the salad had a weird taste. Disappointed since they got such high reviews. Though the waitress was very sweet and helpful.

Great bar, very close to the tram stop too. Service was excellent and prices are reasonable

A convenient bar/restaurant close to the Largo dos Guimarães tram stop. Might be a good place for a drink, but the food they serve wasn’t at all great. Not tasty, average quality and huge portions (of which you’ll probably eat only half). On top of that it was one of the most expensive places we have been to in Rio de Janeiro - 200 BRL per person for 1 main dish and a couple of drinks…

In the heart of Santa Teresa, this restaurant had amazing authentic Brazilian food and classic Brazilian caipirinha. The service was also fast and friendly. Highly recommend this place if your in the area!

Lovely family restaurant in the Santa Teresa historic neighborhood serving superb Brazilian cuisine. Of itself a destination right off the tram stop, Portella has live music on weekends and is an amazing place to view the local scene. The staff is super attentive and will go above and beyond to make visitors welcome. From Portella you can walk to the Casto Maya museum, a stunning place to learn about Rio’s history.
