The Sigiria is a must visit site. Located on the top of the mountain close to Dambulla. It is a imposing site. One has to climb about 1200 steps. The construction at the site that is about 1600 years old is a architecturally a marvel. Often considered the 8th wonder of the world. It is not a difficult climb even for a 70 Yr old with reasonable fitness. The entry fee is USD15 if you have a SAARC passport or for children & $30 for other countries.Anyone traveling to Sri Lanka must not miss this. It’s an absolute must. It’s a beautiful rock with so much curiosity attached to it. Tickets I think are expensive which is the only downside. Another downside is there aren’t any signboards explaining anything throughout the hike. Try getting here in the morning so you don’t feel too hot once you’re up there.

Amazing views from this UNESCO site. After climbing the stairs to the top (about 1000 steps) you’ll be breath taken by the 360 panoramic view this amazing and world renowned place offers. Be sure to bring water with you as there is none drinkable at the top.

Ravana’s Palace is on top of the Sigiriya Rock, or Lion Rock as it is also known due to the two lion feet at the bottom. It might be that it was a huge lions head here in ancient times. The palace is gone, but the foundations are still there. The way up is prepared with steps all the way. Some of these steps are a bit wonky, and if you arw afraid of heights its wise to go early so you dont need to queue in steps that are swaying 😬. The place is definitely worth the trip and the entrance fee of 30 USD.

Having reached the top on a very sunny, hot and humid day there was a refreshing breeze when we're walked around the archeological site. The view is just stunning and the site is well worth the tough journey to the top. We had a break at the half way point so we were ready for the rest of the trip to the top.

👍👍 Really amazing location in Sri Lanka. You can have a nice hike with historically important locations at dambulla. Pidurangala rock feature is also near this location. You can get relaxed with a nice barth at kandalama lake. While you are traveling you can have good food at Aralia cafe and Sigiriya...

👍👍 Great history and a challenge. I had a nice cool day, age 74, climbed it in 30 mins easily.Stone steps not great : height and width : steel steps in second leg much easier. Great views all round from all heights. Wall painting interesting to see but probably better studied in guide book.
