I’m sharing a recent experience in a Hamburg “Block House” cafe on 29.06.2022. Hot weather. I ordered orange juice and wanted to pay immediately. While the waiter went to get the juice, I got a call. The waiter came with juice and a payment terminal. I started to pay and at the same time I was talking with the caller. Suddenly I saw the amount to be paid - 32.80. I cut both the payment and the phone call. I asked: "Why such a large amount?" The waiter calmly replied: "Juice and tip." The juice cost 3.80. And the tip for 28.50? Is it normal? Of course, I didn't want to pay such a tip. I paid only 3.80 for the juice.

Was expecting way better quality and taste of food. One of the worst restaurants I had visited taste and quality wise. The staff was friendly but didn't look too happy working there so I wonder if it's also good conditions for them. You should definitely reconsider wasting some more money on actual good stuff and it will be greatly appreciated. Really poor for their prices as well. My steak was completely tasteless and the potato was very basic like I tried making it at home for the first time.

I have to write a paragraph on this place because woooowwww! The reception at the entance was simply amazing. The young man was polite, patient and very friendly. The pictures on the walls were a welcome site for a young chef like myself. We were seated not too far from the window and later moved to a seat with a view. The service was impecable. And the warm meal was so welcome. Our waitress was so sweet and we coulndt resist just smilling at her. Come here if you want a meal served with love. Its not always perfect but it surely feels right. Thank you for the lovely afternoon.

This place is pretty busy and touted as the best steak in town. Tried the ribeye medium rare and taste is pretty good. Only the cutting is big thick for me. The salad is pretty good as well. Service is okay.

I know we Americans are supposed to come to Europe and enjoy local culture and cuisine, but then again... how about a traditional steak house? Dark wood, intimate lighting, my steak on the grill just a few feet away. It's been YEARS since I've enjoyed this pleasure, and I'd forgotten how much I missed it. A good steak, a perfect green salad and a baked potato with loads of sour cream. Thank you, Block House, for a perfect meal.

This is a quality experience based on the needs of the customer. A person at the table had a food allergy. No problem for the team at Block House. Four other restaurants found this too hard. The food was excellent and one of not the best steak I have had in Europe on this eight week trip. The service was also great.

The food was good, but unfortunately the service was lacking. Almost none of the servers talked English and they made an error when trying to pay they basically took the whole amount from one card instead of three and the Waite just walked off.

Dined with a group of 9. Menu’s wording on starter substitution confused us—ended up with unexpected charges. Steaks were good but pricey. Got a side cheese with mold, had to ask for a replacement. Overall, mixed experience due to unclear charges and unexpected issues with sides.

My only wish is for the service to be as good, warm and comforting as the food. The steak was great, grilled to perfection, awesome garlic bread and even the starter salad was as surprising as a salad can be. The service, on the other hand, was slow and a bit on the cold side, we felt on a rush to place an order before the waiter's patient or attention span run out. Overall, a great steak house with wonderful steaks, just don't expect a nice small talk with the service staff.

Mediocre and slightly expensive food, good service, almost excellent atmosphere. It was a bit crowded, probably because it's near the train station. We reserved a table a day before, so it wasn't a big deal. Restroom is downstairs behind the bar.

We enjoyed our evening with cozy atmosphere and soft lighting, good vibes from staff. The restaurant is good for a long evening with friends, business partners or romantic date with someone who like classical surrounding. Everything was professional. The food was good . Also was interesting to watch chef serving dishes . I wish a good luck to this restaurant.

Service was very good considering I didn't know any German and the waitress had a thick accent. Had steaks that were pretty reasonable priced with delicious baked potato and amazing garlic bread. I dont think they are the best steaks I've ever had but they were decent. Waitress also gave us free extra sour cream.

This place amazed me Again We came at a busy time & evdntually got seated in a quiet area. The waitress did her very best to serve us straight up which we appreciated highly! The meat & how it was prepaired was just on another level! Taken the service & quality of the food into consideration this was excellent. The utterly friendly waitress got a healthy well deserved tip The ease of parking just across the street is very much in its favour. See You soon

I personally loved the service! There was certain level of sassiness to the waiters and they were really fun and chatty. The food was quite good, to the extent that we repeated dining there two days in a row. They do know how to prepare their meat and the baked potatoes with cream are just to die for!

As as starter I ordered pumpking soup. It was smooth and little bit sweet. For a main, I ordered rib eye well done. But I recomment to order medium.

Rump steak was cooked to perfection! The service was hilariously passive aggressive, but the steak made up for it.

I was there yesterday after the Pride parade. I have to agree with the reviews about the price/quality of the food. We order filet minion with fries and vegetables. The French Fries were the most skinniest fries ever and the vegetables were just potatoes, carrots, and unions. As far as I know, potato is not a vegetable! We paid 50 euros for tiny meat and french fries, more potatoes not even a side salad or anything. I will never return to this place, it felt like a tourist trap! The personnel is very very friendly and the place is beautiful from the inside. 2 starts for the personnel, otherwise it would have been -1.

Really yummy steaks, their special sour cream sauce is really good too, and the garlic toast was amazing.

Lovely friendly staff (give them a bloody tip! :) ) food was really nice and it was a nice atmosphere. Would definitely go here for a good quality meal and a nice beer to accompany it.

Chain restaurant, tasty food, good VFM, no wait to get a table, friendly staff and big thing for me was across road from Hamburg Hbf.

Great steak, juicy and made precisely to the point. The potato with cream was delicious as well. I did not like the wine I was recommended though, and when anybody cared to ask that was too late.

Went here due to the ratings. But the pasta dish tasted like a pre made plate that was heated in the microwave. Warm but dry. The hamburger was okay, especially the beef. Yet it did not really feel like a hamburger and both the cheese and tomatoes were tasteless. The fries were a mix of fatty, dry and crispy ones. The best part was the service. However, it was not enough to get to two stars.

The starter salad is fresh and tasty, however the steak and even the kids menu are quite disappointing. Ordered a local German ribeye and an Argentina T-Bone, the quality of meat reminds me the tasty of the low priced beef from the supermarket. The T-Bone was overcooked( asked for medium but got almost well done) at the first, fortunately the waiter was very nice and had the kitchen made another serve for me—-but the taste of meat didn’t change that much. It simply doesn’t have the rich taste that the meat at this price level should have. The pasta bolognese from the kids menu was purely pasta with tomato source..... This is the first blockhouse restaurant I have tried but probably also the last one. First time feel cheated by the high review score from google. One star for the salad and the other for the good service.

Steaks were really nothing fancy and the filet mignon even tasted a bit off, not the best place for steaks in Hamburg but if you’re in a rush and want to catch your train it would be adequate however the staff is friendly and the place is nice on the inside

Price/Taste imbalance. I’d have great foods for that 35 Euros. I ordered a medium rare fillet steak, but it was like rare. Changed it but the same thing continued. Something lacks.

Block house is a chain of steakhouse in Germany. Every restaurant offers a very good menu inspired by the typical German cusine. Meat is excellent, "Mr. Rumpsteak" is one of the best choice that you can make. Environment is friendly and the staff very kind.

I give 3 stars mainly for the location and ambience. I had the steak menu called "Mrs. Rumpsteak", which was not a bad idea for single person dinner. The steak had a bit of fat onto it. I also order the chilly beef dip, which was nothing but just a BBQ sauce. Overall this place would be okay for one time visit.
