I am usually a bit suspicious towards cafes located next to touristic places as they unfortunately tend to prioritize multiple things over quality. Kasteelpoort is a real exception. The location, the food, the service are just excellent for the just a little higher than average price. This place is a must visit if you are nearby.

Expensive, with nice view and interior. What really struck me was that despite coming there midday in a very hot week they weren't unable to serve smoothie from the menu because 'they had only strawberries' - and then even when you ask to get it without the second ingredient they would still charge full price for it. I wish it would at least been colder. Don't know about the food/other drinks but honestly didn't like the fact how they were prepared.

Staff were amazingly warm and friendly. Nice ambience. Good selection of beer. Food was very average. But I guess for the price, it is OK. Would go there again for a more budget meal with a good ambience.
