(Translated by Google) Nice short hiking trail from the parking lot. If there is no fog, you can see something. We continued until the Roque de los Muchachos (28km back and forth), where the fog cleared and rewarded us with great views in due caldera. Von dirt saw the Pico then opposite. But running alone in the fog also has something. (Original) Netter kurzer Wanderweg vom Parkplatz hoch.

(Translated by Google) The temple was founded in 1500 and is, in its current configuration, the result of several reforms and extensions that ended up forming its current three-floor basilica plant. Its south facade faces the Plaza de España. Considered by critics as the best Renaissance style set in the Canary Islands. Every five years the Mother Church of El Salvador welcomes the image of the Virgen de las Nieves (patron saint of the island of La Palma) for approximately one month, during the Lustrales Festivities of the Bajada de la Virgen. Recollection, faith, tradition and culture go hand in hand. Visita obligada.

(Translated by Google) On the shopping street of Santa Cruz, on La Palma, is the Parroquia Matriz el Salvador church. From the pedestrian zone, you have to go up a few steps to get to the church located on the Plaza de Espana. In the square in front of the church, almost in the middle, stands the statue of the priest Manuel Hermandes, who in his time, for a free school visit, for children of all shifts ... that was probably a very committed pastor ... With this monument, the citizens say thank you .... to someone who has stood up for them and their concerns .. The church as a building, is said to date from the 16th century, which is supposed to be a Renaissance architectural style, only the main entrance area suggests, which is supposed to be a classic representation of a Roman triumphal arch ... so I read it as info ... To the left and to the right of the main entrance, the masonry is plastered white, on the side, to the right of the main entrance, is the church tower, which is a bell tower. This tower is made of lava rock and has also been preserved in this way ... two visible bells hang in the top of the tower ... From the outside, this church can be seen as simple. That changes when you look at the magnificent interior of the church ... I cannot judge what I have seen here, it has a lot of, very magnificent, effect on me ... I cannot say more ... I personally liked the ceiling construction, the pillars in connection with the round arches harmonize in this church, structurally and in color well together. This supporting function of the pillars with the round arches divides this church interior into three parts. Every room layout in this church has something special to show. This church is worth seeing, but as a visitor you should never forget it is a church, religion is still lived here, and whoever is a Christian knows what I mean ...

Church Matriz de El Salvador was founded A.D 1500 (approx.). The church depicts perfectly Renaissance style. Astounding but modest construction. Above the portico was placed small monument depicts the Divine Savior of the World. In front of the church, you may see a bronze made figure dedicated to former parish priest Manuel Díaz Hernández, called Father Díaz. I would like to draw your attention to the fact. During the Middle Ages, Santa Cruz de La Palma was not a big city, but nearby (about 1650 feet from each other) two large churches were founded. It was church San Francisco De Asís and church Matriz de El Salvador. It's a testimony that Santa Cruz de La Palma was a rich Canarias capital due to maritime trade and local craft. I admired the wonderful Matriz de El Salvador church interior in November 2017.

(Translated by Google) The marking shows the parking possibility for the hiking trail / ascent to the Pico de la Nieve. The walk takes about 1.5-2 hours and leads moderately uphill through sparse pine forest, later also above the tree line. Very good panoramic view of the northeast (Barlovento, Los Sauces) and from the top down into the caldera, of course, only in clear weather. We were up there with heavy clouds, that too has its charm. But be careful, it can be very cool up there.

(Translated by Google) When we hear about Santa Cruz de La Palma our thoughts quickly accompany us to its narrow streets and colonial facades, but there is a place where the island capital gives its borders to the impressive National Park of La Caldera de Taburiente. It is at this point at 2.239 meters where the history gives way to the nature path that the ancient arrieros baptized with the name of Pico de La Nieve. After an hour and a half walking at a user's pace, without hurry we reached the eastern mountain range of the National Park where formerly a cross of tea was installed that blessed those who passed through there. In the background, emerging from the sea of clouds, Father Teide proudly receives us as the highest mountain in Spain reflected by the unmistakable blue of the sea that bathes us.
