Secreto organised a private transfer for us off the island back to Cartagena but we were completely ripped off. The hostel boat left us on Barú with men staring at us and who made us give them money to be allowed in our taxi (which we had to wait half an hour for and had already paid Secreto for). What was an hour long journey to the island was around 3.5hours and cost us more money. We thought it would be more reliable and safer to book it through the hostel but this was not the case at all. We’ve had no other trouble backpacking Colombia but our group of three females were really quite scared at points. We enjoyed the plankton tour and being able to walk to the beach from the hostel, but our experience with the hostel organised transport really ruined it for us. We were also charged for breakfast which was presented as free.

I booked to stay here for five days and my experience was not great. Firstly, I would issue caution to solo travellers going here as during my stay it was mainly groups and couples staying here. The vibe is weird. The bar staff/activities guy are verging on creepy and constantly asked if I was going to the beach party and whether I'd dance with them. In terms of the accommodation, the cabins are in need of a bit of love. There are no ladders on the bunk beds, which means if you're on the top bunk you have to step on the bunk below to heave yourself up. The cables for the fans aren't long enough and the electricity is turned off during the day. The pools were dirty and looked like they both needed draining and deep cleaned. The beach smells like egg and the majority of the sun beds are broken, as are the parasols. Communication was lacking. There had been a few trips to a floating bar, however guests were only asked if they wanted to join five minutes before and not everyone was asked. Service at the bar and restaurant was slow, but luckily there is a town 7 mins walk away with restaurants. The female staff are the only saving grace. They were incredibly friendly and hospitable and kindly moved me after I made a request

The place just does like look like on the pictures at all.. The biggest problem for us was no mosquito net-seriously this is an absolute must on the island and we were bitten a lot during the night! The room whilst clean had ants building nest in the bathroom and the water smelled like sewage making it unbearable to stay in (they did put in a room refreshing scent but that gave me horrible headache). Mattress was rock-hard and I still have a backache from it now. The staff that was acting nice didn't feel genuine and we didn't like the attitude of the receptionist at all. The beach, (admitedly due to its location) was dirty and nothing like advertised The place just wasn't for us and we didn't like the energy. We liked our rooms size and felt the bed covers were adequate. We understand that running a place like this probably not the easiest and we gave it a try but just found it not to be a good value for money.

Spent 3 nights and had a great time. Very relaxed atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff and good starting point to explore the island or sip some unique cocktails by the pool. We had both transport to and from the island booked through the hostel and all worked just as planned. The hostel accomodated for a private transport on the way there as our schedule didn't fit with the regular transport times. The many activities provided through the hostel (snorkling, kayaking, Bingo, ...) provide a good opportunity to socialize with other travelers.

Probably the World’s Best kept Secret! This place is Gorgeous and has the luxury of a 5 star resort but better because its filled with the Kindest people. The cocktails are made in house and Super Delicious! The bathroom has beautiful tiling and clean, the bed is protected by mosquito nets. So many activities to do every day, its a Blast here!

We really enjoyed our stay here! The pool areas was so nice to chill by, day and night! The staff were the highlight for sure. Davide, Elizabeth and Diana couldn’t do more for us and were so friendly! Thank you ❤️ The rooms you had your own personal fan in the bunks which was great. But still the rooms got VERY hot so maybe some more fans in the room outside of the bed would be good. The steak bbq was UNREAL. Best steak we have had yet on our travels through central/south America!

We had a great time at Secreto! The food is delizioso! Very friendly Co- Workers, especally David & Michel- Angelo were super nice but also the others. The different Tours were also super Cool, we realy enjoyed them. Of course you have alot of mosqitos on the Island- bring a reppelant, but in the Room with air conditoning we were happy. When you book it they tell you how to come on the Island. We would love to come back one Time💛 Lived the caribbean Dream there.

Great place, exactly what you’d expect from a beachy/party hostel. The beach party was a great time. Tons of good looking people, unfortunately I do not have the best salsa, the DJ was on point though. Food is great, the sushi bowl was super fresh. Don’t stay here for 5 days and expect a resort experience. This is a 2 night enjoy the grounds kinda spot. One thing, The entire complex is fenced in with pretty heavy barbed wire. I wonder whether that has anything to do with the small community that you can walk too and buy bug spray and snacks. Seem like really kind people but gave me a bit of a weird feeling with the heavy duty barb and fence and all.
