National Shrine Basilica,Vallarpadam is situated next to Vallarpadom Container Terminal and linked to the Ernakulam mainland via the Goshree bridges. It is about one kilometer away from the Ernakulam mainland. The earlier Church built by the Portuguese Missionaries was destroyed by heavy floods in 1676, which was then known as Church of the Holy Spirit. The present church at Vallarpadamis is built on land donated by Paliyath Raman Valiyachan. The picture of the Virgin Mary and Infant Jesus, installed at the top of the main altar of the Vallarpadam Church, was brought by Portuguese merchants under the leadership of Vasco da Gama in 1524 and installed in the old church, but survived the floods which destroyed the old church. On September 12th 2004 the Catholic Bishops Conference of India has raised this pilgrim center to the status of a "National Shrine". The following December Pope John Paul II granted the honorific title of Minor Basilica to the church. Thousands visit the Church every day, from far and wide and belonging to all religions, castes and creed. The Feast of Vallarpadathamma is celebrated from 16 to 24 September every year.

So peaceful and serene. Millions of people visit this holy shrine. Go there with your problem and a solution is sure to come by, at least you will have peace of mind. One big Church where one can spend some quality time with family in peace and the church even has a view tower where you enjoy the scene around the shrine. This church is the most important Marian Shrine in India. It is actually named Basilica of Our Lady of Ransom.

This is one of the old pilgrim centres in Ernakulam district. Beautiful church with amenities. Try to visit the church in the early morning or evening. There is no tree at all near the church. Walking from car parking to church in a sunny time is devastating.

Located on the outskirts of Ernakulam City, it is easily approachable by bus and other means of public transport from the High Court Junction. The introduction of the Metro waterway will open up more points of access from the mainland. It is believed that about half a million people visit the Basilica on a monthly basis. There is a miracle associated with this place and several other incidents that have raised the status of this Basilica to international fame. Since all of them are available on the Internet, I'm not detailing them here. Suffice to say that the prayer hall is a very soothing place and one can spend some quality time in introspection within the Basilica.

Divine and holy experience. If you look into the history of the church a miracle has recorded [regarding a mother and her son who were sunk in river, and it is said that Valarpadathamma (holy mother) saved them ]. Special prayers are there on Saturdays in the name of holymary. Spacious parking lot.

Very popular church and vallarpadam is a divine attraction to visit and pray. It's a beautiful church surrounded by water bodies. Also there is a tower above which can be paid and visited. The view from the top of the tower is priceless. Any camera lens might not be able to capture its beauty in the exact way. The atmosphere at the top is so special. When you are so stressed or down, best place for a different feel.

Historically significant and beautiful basilica consecrated in the name of our lady of help. Has a rich cultural history and significance among the Christian population in Kerala. It's easy to reach the church via car, bike or using public transport. The surrounding is beautiful, with mangove forests and lakes on all sides of the church. The view from the church tower is particularly breathtaking.

This Basilica was recommended by our guide as a must-visit and he wasn't wrong. Lovely, well maintained church with a touching miraculous history. It houses a big courtyard of glass enclosures depicting each and every mystery of the rosary with nicely crafted statues and scenes. This was really a sight to see. The Basilica inside has beautiful interiors and has a watch tower with a lift where you can visit an observatory for beautiful scenic views and finally you can see the statue of Our Lady of Vallarpadam which is atop the church. Highly recommended for some peaceful prayer and meditation..a lovely end to our visit in Kochi.

Vallarpadam Church in Kerala is absolutely amazing 🏰. It's not just any church, it's got a super fascinating history too. This church has been around for ages and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It's one of the oldest churches in the area and holds a special place in the hearts of the local community. The architecture is simply breathtaking, with all those intricate details and a peaceful vibe. Trust me, it's a total gem for kerala.😍

Vallarpadam Basilica is one of the church which is known for it's miracles. It was raised to the status of Basilica on 1st December 2004 by late Saint John Paul II. The Church has a good artitecture and the area is so peaceful. There is a good parking space for cars and bikes. There is also a very beautifully build 12 places representing way of cross. The area is large and that too gets full of cars once the celebration day comes like Christmas and Easter times.

Old church with quite striking exterior and bell towers. Nice to view from outside and you may respectfully visit inside too. There is always something sticking about seeing architecture that feels out of place. Peaceful and serene. A nice holy place to visit for all religions. Don't forget to go to the top of the church for a good view of the city.

Nice place , An ancient church that has been given the status of a basilica, it is one of the most prominent spiritual sites in Ernakulam district. The main attraction of Vallarpadam Church is the revered statue of the Virgin Mary, known as Our Lady of Ransom. Devotees believe that this statue possesses miraculous powers, attracting thousands of pilgrims seeking solace, healing, and redemption. Witnessing the devotion of the faithful and experiencing the profound sense of faith is a humbling and enlightening experience.

One main attraction of this church is the display of important events from Jesus Christ's life. The church has changed a lot from the actual structure. But care has been taken to preserve the inside of the church as it was. There is an eatery right next to the church. Other than that one no other proper hotels in vicinity. The turn of to the church can be overlooked when you are coming via the Gosree bridge. There is an arch, just be on the lookout.

If you believe in miracles, do visit Vallarpadam This catholic church and the compound surrounding it, is a place of pilgrimage due to miracles that are supposed to have taken place. It is claimed this is a very old church dating from 1524. However, this first church founded by Portuguese settlers was destroyed by a flood end 17th century. A new church was built, but it remains unclear to me exactly when the newish looking building was established. Anyway, lots of people visit, even though the location is quite far out of Ernakulam town and in an unattractive industrial environment. I reached Vallarpadam by taking the ferry from Fort Kochi to Vypin island and walking there. After my church visit continued my walk to Ernakulam and took the ferry back to Fort Kochi. Good to get an impression of the Kochi-Ernakulam agglomeration. The views from the bridges over the estuary are good. There is a regular bus from Ernakulam stopping at the church.

The National Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Ransom aka Vallarpadam Basilica (Malayalam: വല്ലാര്‍പാടം പള്ളി, Cochin Portuguese: Basílica de Nossa Senhora do Resgate) located in Vallarpadam, a suburb in Ernakulam, in the city of Kochi, is a minor Basilica and a major Christian pilgrimage centre in India. Around 5 million people visit the Basilica every year. It is the most important Marian Shrine in India.[citation needed] People from all parts of the world irrespective of caste or creed go to the church to seek the blessings of the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, popularly known as "Vallarpadathamma". It's one of the oldest European Churches in India which was built by the Portuguese Missionaries in the year 1524. The church is dedicated to the Holy Mary of Vallarpadam which is commonly referred as 'Vallarapadath Amma'. Though, it ruined due to heavy flood in the year 1676 but it was reconstructed in the year 1676. Then in the year 1888, it was declared as a special church by Pope Leo XIII and later the Union Government stated it as a major pilgrim centre. The history says that Vallarpadath Amma has saved her devotees life several times from violent storms.

I liked visitng the place and I have visited plenty of churches like this. However I felt little detested with the kind of content published over there. Though it's a story, the protagonist in the story is a Hindu family who finally got CONVERTED to a Christian, because she was to visit a temple and in between she met some with a boat accident where she was to die and then the church came in rescue for her and hence she lived as a slave to the church further on. There is still this ritual of being a slave at this church. However, my opinion was that the way it is published (that the lady was to visit a temple and then this accident happened) is definitely spreading a hatred in some or the other way.
