Simple Review: Great vibes, and nice people. Detailed Review: This place is home, if you are in Addis Ababa for few time and you want a place to call home, then Mad Vervet is where you should be, wither you are solo, a couple, or a group of friends. From nice rooms, to good kitchen, and clean environment. a bar with nice vibes. Card games, and chess are played along the week, and people gathering every few nights + Sundays BBQ Brunches. You would definitely make good friends there. And the good thing is you don't need to worry about noise if you are too tired to socialize, you will feel like if there is no thing if you went up stairs. Prices are the best of the best. Shall I talk about security? Well, Rona the dog is a 24 hours guard, she would make sure that you are not a thief before giving you the permission to enter the building. besides 2 guards who are there 24/7 It is a legit business with great service, and nice people.

It's the only hostel in town, and thus the best one. I only stayed a couple of nights due to my planning, however I'd have loved to stay more

The place itself is ok, the owner however is not. We were looking for a trip to Simian mountains and eventually decided to book a trip independently from the hotel. We found a local guide who could arrange a tour for us much cheaper than Manuhie offers. The morning we are supposed to leave with our local guide two thugs show up saying they are from Manuhie and that we have a problem. They quickly start arguing with our guide and not long after they punch him in the face and drag him away. Perplexed and confused and worried for our friend we tried to interviene but the brutes makes it clear it means trouble for us too. Stay well away from this place, the owner sees you as his property and in our experience does not allow you to choose your own way. Stay away from this place. Tl;dr : The owner had our local guide beaten up and dragged away for choosing him as our tour operator.

So glad I decided to stay at this hostel when I arrived in Addis. I booked for 2 nights but extended and stayed for a week. I met so many amazing people at the hostel bar, guests and locals and they definitely made my time in Addis. The staff here are honestly the best, so friendly, genuine and willing help you out with anything! The hostel itself is chilled, massive kitchen and common area. There is 24 hour security and always felt safe here. Can’t wait to get back to Addis now!

I've been living in Addis for 3 months now and this is one of my favorite spots to grab a beer and spend time with friends. The owners have been leaders in the Couchsurfing community for years and created such a wonderful environment to connect with travelers and newcomers to Addis. I love how sustainable the hostel is and would recommend Mad Vervet to anyone!

The Mad Vervet Hostel is the friendliest place I have ever been to. It is more than just a hostel - as soon as you enter the building, you feel welcomed and loved. It feels like home, home to many wonderful and open-hearted people. This place stands for the Magic of Friendship, Unity, Equality and Kindness. If you have the chance, please visit the owners of Mad Vervet, Neba, Beza and their superstar dog and give them a huuuuuge hug from me! 😊 But remember, once you visit this place, there is no way back, you will want to move in and stay there forever, enjoying the time with these fascinating people!😊 Lots of Love to everyone. ❤️

Perfect hostel for budget travellers, one pays little and gets good value for little money. The team running the place is very friendly and helpful, the outdoor bar is a good place to hang out. The location is ok, not to far from the different centres of Addis

The best hostel in Addis. Very accommodating and friendly. Also I'll miss my friend Rona 🐶🐕 😘😘. The cheapest 💕 and large rooms, WiFi but not in the rooms, shared kitchen, hot water available, bar, restaurant. If you don't have money for luxury then this is the place to be.

This is the best and truest backpackers hostel in ethiopia. Stayed many times with them in 2019 and 2020 when I visited Addis while I was in peace corps. Beza, Nebyu and staff are kind, friendly and thoughtful hosts. Party vibes if you care to partake or chill comfort if that’s what you’re looking for. Ask them about what to see/do, how to get around, which old movies or TV shows you should get into or even their academic vocation as civil engineers. Beds are comfortable and rooms have enough outlets. Furniture and design elements designed and made by hosts. Ask for their help to get to/from the airport as it’s not the easiest place to find, but once you’re there you should be able to figure out that it’s conveniently located between 22 and bole neighborhoods.

Very noisy day and night due to mainly local guests. Structure with no noise protection. Mosquitos in room, no mosquito net, wifi not working. Overprized for foreigners (sgl. 350 ETB /night with bath for 6 nights). Very basic room interior (bed, chair, small table). Long lasting voltage drops on power net. Good renewed ensuite bathroom on ***-level. Due to lack of tourists the guesthouse hosted local workers who misused the green courtyard as carpark for a commercial pick-up. When they loaded the car at 5 am on several days they run the diesel motor for all time loading, longer than 20 minutes. It's local tradition. You felt like sleeping directly on the parking lot. All children of hosted families woke up and stayed awake. Since there is no noise-protection in the building, you hear every word in the neighbour rooms and the courtyard. My room was filled with dozzens of mosquitos when I arrived. Mosquito protection is difficult to find in Bahir Dar, they don't care. Finally I could purchase a strong spray and I sprayed the room extensively with good success. They then wanted me to move to another room. There was no mosquito net or a suspension for your own. For the night I used coils. Lake Tana is malaria endemic, despite what they say. Take care! The renewed bathroom with very good hot shower was the best I had since month. It is possible to wash clothes and hang outside. The high farangi-prize is not reflecting the lack of quality, especially the noise issues from other guests. If you are looking for a calm place for a longer stay to relax and work intellectually, I recommend you to spend a little more birr and bargain a several nights stay at the larger hotels.

It's the only real hostel in the country so you meet many people and it has a great atmosphere. Needs much more attention on maintenance and cleaning though, plus the WiFi didn't work for our whole stay.

As a first-time traveller to Addis, this is one of the best places to stay. You may be a bit apprehensive about travelling around the country but once you get here, you would be sure to meet several avid adventurers who will give you the information you need. The staff don't always reply to you so just turn up on the day you say you are. From the airport, it is a Birr200 to get to the hostel on the Ride App. Just say you are going to Blue Sky Hotel and then direct them 2 streets up. There are 2 bedroom secluded rooms but you can only book when you are there. There is a Laundry place within a 5 minute walk near the street stores next to the football field. The beer is cheap. The company is good. RONA is a good dog.

positive: hostel where you can find likeminded travelers and adventurers of all ages. they relocated to this big house / villa only a few weeks ago and they are still installing manny things. big rooms. quiet neighbourhood. hostel bar. common areas. negative: only two bathrooms incl. shower and toiletts for manny guests. bin wasn't emptied for three days. toilet paper wasn't often available so better to have your own. wifi didn't work reliably. kitchen often was a mess. they could definitely improve by making signs to wash your owm dishes instead of leaving them dirty. no pens/paper available to label the own food. overall abit chaotic and not well organized when i stayed there but maybe that's just because they relocated recently. hope they improve certain things because the place has a lot of potential.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Manuhie Backpackers for 4 nights and it was great! Nati is a SUPER host and the setting is relaxing. It was the only backpackers we found in all of ethiopia where we met other guests, hung out with the owner, and got a great value. The owner took the time to help us with getting fair prices and showed us the hidden spots around Bahir Dar. The rooms are basic but a good value and we spent the whole time exploring the welcoming city and hanging with new friends.

I had a wonderful time at Manuhie´s place. It´s simple but very clean for a fair price. Never found something like this in Ethiopia. The staff was very welcoming, kind and helpful and they have made me feel at home. There is a nice garden you can meet other travelers or organize a tour with Nati and his friend for a really good price. If you go to Bahir Dar stay in Manuhie Backpacker Lodge and you find everything a traveller haert desires. I will definitely come back ..Thank you for everything

room infested with mosquitos, bathrooms are not clean at all, no hot water, breakfast at 50 birr is an unsavory omelette and stale bread. Coffee was decent. Definitely not good value as it is somewhat expensive. Pushy about the tours. Better options available for sure in baher dar

Very nice place to spend the night at. Nati the owner is a very kind and helpful person. Warm showers, typical rooms for a backpackers lodge, bug nets are provided. Offers for seamian and danakil are available as well. Would definitely come back here.

Beds are clean and very comfortable with mosquito net in a spacious and ventilated rooms. Shared toilets are clean but get a feeling of uncomfortness. Hot showers are in working condition and Wifi is very slow and often doesn't work. Location is very far from the centre of the town but peaceful for good sleep and the price is 300 Birr per night.

Nati, the owner is very very helpful, he even sent my left stuff to Addis after me. The hotel has a very nice garden. The rooms are good but need some more furniture. The toilet/bathroom is the only part that needs some upgrade.

  • 1/5 noam w. 5 years ago on Google
Good mosquito nets, but except that a bad experience. All the rooms are around a sitting area so no privacy and a lot of noise. Most of the rooms don’t have a bathroom. One wet and gross shared bathroom and shower. Anything we wanted to do the owner tried to sell us instead of just answering a question. We wanted to take a bus to the falls, they wouldn’t tell us what bus station it’s from, only offered us a private overpriced car.

  • 5/5 Eddie C. 5 years ago on Google
Good place to go to if you are looking for a cheap room @10 USD a night. It's most importantly clean but it s a standard and basic room, normal for Ethiopia. They do sell tours, but prices are a bit inflated so don't forget to haggle...

  • 3/5 Franziska H. 7 years ago on Google
3 stars means all OK. Good service, kind staff, good price (200 birr single with shared bathroom)! BUT: one night (out of three nights) was very noisy. Big group had a party the whole night. I don't know why the owner wasn't able to stop the party and ensure a quiet night for the other guests!

Typical simple backpackers. Had a room with private bathroom which sufficed. Mosquito nets provided. Hot water (depending on time of day). Friendly staff, some of them can be quite pushy but that’s the touristy culture. You meet great people in the meeting area around the coffee pot.

(Translated by Google) Great backpacker accommodation with a dedicated owner who takes care of all the needs and requests of his customers. The rooms are large, clean and equipped with mosquito net. The shared bathroom has, what is not self-evident, a well-functioning hot shower. In the beautiful courtyard you can sit together in the evening and enjoy the peace and the free wifi during the day. The accommodation is well located so that coffee, restaurants and the lake are within walking distance.

Excellent budget hotel. Rooms are clean, tidy, if a little basic. Hot water normally works, and the WiFi is the best I encountered outside Addis. The host, Nati, is quite the character, but he booked me an amazingly good value trip to the Simeon Mountains and the Danakil Depression.

We went there without reservation, not easy to find, we also asked some people, nobody knew the place. The manager didn't show much interest, he was too busy with his smartphone. The place is quite, nice garden, but for the price that you have to pay i expected some more appealing rooms. Also the lodge is quite far from the city center and the pier (10-15min walking). If you wanna stay in that area, I suggest Kitsel Hotel, you get a new modern hotel with AC/ own bathroom for about the same price. If you wanna stay in the center, Bahir Dar 2 is an okayish hotel.
