Very cozy and stylish Indian restaurant which serves only veg foods. Interior design is just simply gorgeous and Indian food here is needless to say, nice. I had Indian thali which was well in volume and spinach curry became my favorite. The location may be hard to reach but it is worth coming here!

Can’t stress enough! We felt like going back to Addis Ababa or extending our stay to have one more meal at this restaurant. Authentic taste, hot meals, warm hospitality and cool breeze of air! Not very pricey. Fully VEGETARIAN which was difficult to believe at first!

Very high quality vegetarian food. Service was excellent and many of the dishes were up there with the best I've had anywhere. Ultra creamy Palak Paneer was a delight, and the Thali was massive. Brownie with Kulfi was a vision of decadence. Food was so good I ordered some more to take home, will certainly be coming back.

Beautiful space with very delicious food. I’d say the appetizers were my absolute favorite while eating here. The Humpty Dumpty appetizer was out of this world. I also really enjoyed the mango lassi. I’m excited to come back and try other options on the menu.

OM Bistro is one the few good Indian restaurants in Addis Ababa. It is completely vegetarian! My favourite things here are the starters - be it Paneer Tikka, Dahi Papri or Paneer Kurkure. They would sometimes welcome you with vegetable fritters (pakoras). Try the Mango Lassi or Fresh like soda in the drinks. It’s a fine dining restaurant so slightly expensive but you would generally have tasty food.

We wanted to try everything on the menu! I would recommend to order appetizer because main meal does take a little time to prepare. Our waitress was very good but I wish she came to check in on us more regularly.

What a great vibe this place has, packed with locals and amazing aromas of spices! We enjoyed our meal but found the meat chewy. Would have liked to try a vegetarian version but were told there wasn't one. Strange ... Having said all that, this is such a great people watching spot. Lots of gorgeous locals and a great atmosphere.

Om Bistro has one of the tastiest foods here in Addis. Authentically Indian and very vegetarian. I had my concerns because of how much I love meat but I was not disappointed, everything tastes delicious and everything fills up. A must eat spot for anyone who wants to try Indian food or is craving eat.

Definitely the best Indian in town ! Being Indian, i am always wary of trying Indian places. But was pleasantly surprised with OM. Great ambience, good service. But the real deal was the food which was presented superbly, and tasted just perfect. Highly recommended !

They should make their food healthy and not greasy or oily. At the same time, they should use Indian Cottage Cheese procured from outside Ethiopia. As quality of Ethiopian milk is really not up to mark.

I’ve enjoyed the quality time that I’ve pleasently spent here. I’ve visited this place two times in a row during my visit to Addis. Both were a lot of fun and excellent dining experience. The waiter was speaking proper English, he was attentive and the entire place had an amazing smell (they’re constantly burning incense sticks, I assume). As a foreigner the Ethiopian/English menu was confusing because I had no idea about the names and meanings of the items listed, but the waiter has helped me a lot during my food selection. I’m uploading the pictures of the whole menu, for the fellow travellers who can find some time and motivation to do their homework before visiting, and you’ll for sure be an expert in Ethiopian cuisine in no time! I personally recommend Lamb Stew with Ayeb, Lamb Tibs, Lentil with Meat. If you cannot decide which one to choose you can go for Kategna Special, which includes 4-5 of those items listed in the menu, so you can have a taste of each. After the meal, the local tea tasted amazing and different.

The food here was so freaking good, we came here twice in two days. For breakfast, do not miss their "special ful" (spelled "special foul" in the menu) dish. Their beyayenetu is also to die for. Their doro wat is the best I've tasted, besides homemade. This place is commonly featured in many travel food documentaries/shows (re: Anthony Boudain's Parts Unknown and YouTubber Mark Wiens), so one may suspect that it might be overhyped. It's not. The food is amazing and the service is really attentive.

I was raised on Indian food and let me just say this place is amazing. It's very authentic and absolutely delicious. Big menu. Everything I tried was good. I got a platter with dal, paneer, and curry with roti and I just cannot recommend this place more highly. I spent around 400 on dinner, but could have easily spent half that. It's seriously so worth it.

Total disappointment. Had the chebchebsa for breakfast on Timket morning (Jan 19/20). My first time at Kategna. Impressive place, yes, but both the food and service was horrible. The chebchebsa was dry and tasteless. No kibehe, berbere, or salt. When I arrived, the place was relatively empty and well-staffed. The host/server who ushered me in was very pleasant. He brought me the menu promptly and took my order in a timely fashion. Some 40 minutes later, a hostile servant dropped the chebchebsa off with 2 forks and disappeared. I guess one order of chebchebsa is typically shared by two people and I was passing my place? Anyway, 10 minutes into my meal, I started to look around for a waiter to inquire about my tea. My eyes would eventually connect with the host who assured me from afar my tea was coming. It arrived 10 minutes later. Again, the servant appeared hostile. Some 20 minutes later, I inquired from a cleaner if there was a box available to take the leftover home. She left to inquire, but never returned. For the next 20 minutes, I patiently observed the incredibly hostile servers busily attend to everyone else but me. I finally flagged one of the servers to bring me the bill and a container to take the leftover home. He promptly returned with the bill and a container with a filthy lid. He then disappeared without so much as a word. After 5 minutes, I flagged him to complain about the poor service and filthy lid. He seemed indifferent. He offered to bring another lid. No apologies. When I declined, he merely left, not bothering to take my payment. After 5 minutes, I took the bill payment to the bar and asked them for change. I was fuming by this point. Mission accomplished, they probably thought. The host, now serving guests, quickly ran over and took the payment from the bartender. He apologized for the tardiness and told me to take a seat. When I expressed disdain for the poor/hostile service, he apologized and brought me the manager. The manager apologized, but the good Lord only knows if he meant it. When I told him I'd be sending a picture of the filthy lid to head office, he hardly looked concerned. It's typical of Ethiopian servers to target and mistreat Ethiopians from the diaspora. It's actually a running joke amongst Ethiopians in the diaspora. I just haven't seen such coordinated effort on this level in a while, so it did take me by surprise. I certainly didn't expect it from an establishment of Kategna's size, that's for sure. With the exception of the host, every server I crossed appeared to be severely unhappy. It's possible management is part of the problem. I did notice that service charges aren't automatically added to the bill - something I agree with as it takes away incentive for providing good service. Whatever the case, the servers at Kategna are just strangely hostile. Aside from the ambience, there is nothing nice about this restaurant.

The menu seldom changes and the steak is tough . How can you possibly think of having have a steak sandwich on the dinner menu at dinner time beats me. Cooking lacks imagination and is basically dull. It's way too expensive for what you get. Everything tastes like it was cooked last week and reheated. We enjoy the outside area and the waiting staff are great though.

One of Addis hidden gems, great garden dining with a superb menu of great French cuisine. The owner is an Addis institution who takes the time to get to know all his regulars and charms the new comers. Staff are well trained and service is excellent. Recommended.

The restaurant is nice and quiet, the food is delicious, but it is not suitable for meat lovers because all its dishes do not contain any type of meat and the waitress are so kind.

I am giving 4 stars because of the ventilation, we smelled like curry when we left, I think it need extractor in the kitchen! However : Excellent restaurant even though it’s a vegetarian restaurant but we didn’t feel it such everything was so delicious and very well presented! Excellent service too,

I accompanied a friend, who was fasting on the day and decided to go vegan out of respect. Btw, OM(pronounced Aum) is a vegan restaurant. Oh my God, after promising to eat a little, I eventually had a whole meal. The restaurant is a mix of the east and west and not the cliche indian decor. Very refreshing and comfortable venue, although a bit small, it was very cozy. The food quality is very high and delicious, is an understatement. I particularly loved the fresh green Chillies which is the only way to enjoy Indian food. The place is nostalgic and reminds me of my hometown Durban, South Africa 🇿🇦, where we are accustomed to such food. This is a must for anyone visiting Addis. Its also a good venue to treat your clients if they looking for something different. Also try the local wine, the Rift Valley is quite good. All together a fantastic experience. May go vegan after all...

I’m slightly obsessed with OM even though I struggle with how spicy most dishes are for me! They have lots of vegan options. I highly recommend the tandoori broccoli and the mushroom and tofu soup (spicy). The only thing that I wish was different was if they were able to serve the Dhal Makhani vegan. Make a booking if you’re going on the weekend because it can get full fast and for a good reason!

Om always delivers on the vibe and the food experience! From the welcome snacks, to the masala tea you are enwrapped in an ambiance of love. The lassis are also really good. Starters for me the cheese balls and the samosas win hands down. Too many lovely mains to pick a winner. The cheese naan is the perfect accompaniment for any main. Dessert has to be the chocolate brownie, it's so Good!

I have visited Addis Ababa twice (2021 and 2023) and my experience of having food at Om Bistro has always been amazing. This experience was made remarkable simply because of the Chef-Mr. Kuldeep ji. He would customize any dish as per my liking and serve it. I usually refrain from eating restaurant food for too long as I prefer very less-spicy food with less oil, and it was only because of Mr. Kuldeep, that I could get it customized and be in Addis for more than a month and survive on food which felt just like eating at home in India. The food quality at Om Bistro is superior to any other Indian restaurant in Addis and I can vouch for it after trying a couple of other restaurants. The hygiene at the restaurant is great. Everything is made in-house. I liked the soft paneer which is made in-house by the Chef and is fresh. The Chef even makes the nacho chips in-house and the food quality is at par with any 5-star restaurant in India. I have lived in the US for more than 8 years and have tried a lot of Indian restaurants both on the East and the West Coast in Washington DC and San Francisco, but the taste of Indian food customized to my liking at Om Bistro was awesome and way better than any of the places in the US. The service is great and some of the staff like Jiji are very courteous. Kuldeep ji is an expert with a lot of dishes and I would highly recommend and give five stars to this restaurant and to the Chef. I would also highly recommend to visit and try it out for anyone staying in Addis either for a day or a month.

OM has delicious, innovative food - a unique selection of amazing vegetarian options (but so filling and tasty that if you have meat-eaters among you they will not be disappointed). We have eaten in the bistro (lovely atmosphere, friendly service), had take-out many times (always fresh, well-prepared, well-packed), and used OM's catering service (professional, delicious, prompt). All highly recommended.

Beautiful restaurant but I got food poisoning twice the times I ate here, and also they charged us extra for tonic on top of "gin and tonic" drink saying that the menu was old. Ridiculous.

This is my go-to restaurant for vegetarian Indian food in Addis so far. The food has flavour, tastes fresh and is very well packed for home delivery. My suggestions for improvement are: 1. The rumali rotis are always a little undercooked. I would suggest cooking them a little more. 2. The taste for the same dish from one day to the other can differ. I recommend applying more consistent standards in the kitchen. I plan to visit the restaurant to eat there soon and will update this review then. Update: i'm getting the impression that this restaurant that was becoming a habit is actually a complete hit or miss. I just reduced from 4 to 3 stars since the inconsistency of the food is leaning towards getting it wrong more often than right and this is very unfortunate since I was really growing to love this place. Today the sev puri had potato on it that did not taste fresh and was definitely underseasoned. The rumali roti is undercooked again and the dough of the samosa was just too oily and not drained enough. Lastly the usual good packaging done with plastic for the wet mains is missing today and the dal was overflowing from the package. Update: I have ordered from them several times after my last underwhelming experience and have not had a problem with my food since. Taking the rating from 3 to 5. This remains my favorite Indian restaurant in Addis! Update: I finally visited the restaurant and was very happy with the service and also loved the atmosphere itself. Great place to go for Indian food in Addis. I hope they continue to strive to maintain consistency despite the several known issues and challenges of running an international restaurant business in Ethiopia. Well done!
