It’s a nice lake but honestly not so special. You can see hippos in one place, which is nice. The monestries are also nice and you see how the locals live there. But its ridiculous how they overcharge the souvenirs there. The rides are long and boring.

Huge lake with more than 30 islands and a majority of them have churches on the island. This is really unusual and highlights the importance of Christianity in Ethiopia. Didn't expect the lake to be so big requiring more than an hour boat ride to reach some of the islands. Interesting to learn that Lake Tana was formed by volcanic activity!

See the fisherman on a papyrus boat and pelicans following him. Must visit one of islands and see the fascinating paintings inside the monasteries.

Lake Tana is my number 1 favorite lake in Ethiopia, I never get tired of looking at the beautiful lake wave. I studied in Bahir Dar University at Poly Campus, so I had the chance to stay in that city for about 5 years, and the lake view was my favorite view, beside the nile waterfall of course 😅. Everyone should plan on visiting Bahir Dar to see this magnificent water view!!

Take a boat ride at the main dock. You can see hippos and water birds like Saddle billed storks, Sacred Ibis, Great Cormorant, African Fish Eagles, and so many more. Leave in the morning, water gets choppy in the afternoon. Also, there is a walkway around the lake. Thrre are gardens, coffee bars, and secret card games.

I just love this lake. It has amazing land scape. The water is blue and very comfortable to swim. I saw lots of birds around which is scenic to watch. I saw hippo in there. There are tourist boats to have a tour around. If you want to hire, please bargain hard. Must carry drinking water and foods like light snacks.

An amazing and historical lake surrounded by different monastery, p6 with amazing culture and life style, different ecological systems, geographical features extra extra on the nile. Wikipedia-"Lake Tana (Amharic: ጣና ሐይቅ, romanized: T’ana ḥāyik’i; previously Tsana[1]) is the largest lake in Ethiopia and the source of the Blue Nile. Located in Amhara Region in the north-western Ethiopian Highlands, the lake is approximately 84 kilometres (52 miles) long and 66 kilometres (41 miles) wide, with a maximum depth of 15 metres (49 feet),[2] and an elevation of 1,788 metres (5,866 feet).[3] Lake Tana is fed by the Gilgel Abay, Reb and Gumara rivers. Its surface area ranges from 3,000 to 3,500 square kilometres (1,200 to 1,400 square miles), depending on season and rainfall".
