Great food and service. Waitress was really nice and cordial and the lunch time had no rush so you had plenty of space. The Chicken Banderas was delicious and the avocado with pineapple was amazing. The enchiladas were good as well but it was smothered in way too much cheese. The shoestring fries were crispy but I'm not a big fan of it, way too thin and not enough potato "meat" in each fry which I prefer. I also got the strawberry margarita and spicy margarita and both were really good especially the spicy one. Overall food and service was good and so we're the drinks. I'll be back for sure.

Absolutely loved this place! First time eating here and felt so good to feel like I was back home in Texas! Great food, great prices, and great service!

3 stars because food was delicious but very bad service! I know how the restaurant service works, at least overall. There is no reservation on this place its just walk ins and we went as a party of 9 and one person was pregnant, while we were waiting for the table we ordered chips salsa and drinks and we had once chair there one of my friend was sitting and staff came and asked not to sit and took the chair away. We waited for 1hr for table and still got 2 separate table we were still okay with that, when the table was ready i was the only one sitting in the car since i was tired and had to stand, the staff was not ready to sit the party because there was one person missing! That was ridiculous! How will it make difference if one person comes after 5 mins? Not visiting this place again! The food was delicious and in good quality and quantity but not worth dealing with staff

I must say it is one of the most crowded place over here. Too many customers to handles and it is very fast service. The food is cooked very well and its hot. The staff is friendly and cooperative. The enchiladas, burritos and the chips are really good. The chicken also they provided was cooked properly and played nicely. The prices are reasonable and its just wonderful seeing the atmosphere. The offer some really nice drinks and starters as well. I would definitely recommend people go over here.

Fun place with great food. Food is great, servers are great but I do wish it could be a bit quieter. We started with the Cape Town shrimp which is a must. The sauce is addictive and we dipped our tortillas from our fajitas in the left over sauce. We both got the blackened chicken fajitas. There were really good but very salty for my palate. Jambalaya was good but with the saltiness of the blackened chicken a bit much for me. I should have gotten the Jose rice with black beans instead. Service was great. Ours was very attentive, knowledgeable and was quick to notice if we needed help or more drinks. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu

The food is good , I would say 4 out of 5 the ambience is pretty neat you can say a 5 on 5 for the Mexican restaurant, the only problem here is the wait time of around an hour and plus the management is also not great ..we were a party of 10 and entered the waitlist for a party of 10 at the last moment one of us had to leave as the wait time was too much and after 1 and half hour when we got the seats the management was refusing to give us the table as we were only 9 left , we had to argue to get the table after 1 and half hour of wait!! Other than everything was good

The vegetarian menu is limited, but the food is still amazing. The staff is very nice and communicates easily. I really love the empanada from there it’s amazing.

Always a nice meal at Jose Tejas! Went off peak hours and only a 10 minute wait. Guacamole, salsa and chips are a great starter. Followed by enchiladas and was a good meal. Nice variety of Margaritas offered on menu to compliment the meal. Staff is always pleasant and service is fast!

It is a pretty crowded restaurant BUT I've never had an issue with my food or time waiting etc (usuallly the lastest is a 20-25 min wait). My absolute favorites are the Gumbo, Camptown Shrimp and the fries. The strawberry Margarita isn't bad. My husband gets the Carne Asada and enjoys it. We come pretty often and will continue to. The prices aren't bad either.

Steak Fajita's were the bomb! Lots of flavor! Restaurant was busy but we only waited less than 10 minutes for a table. Prices were reasonable. Staff was friendly and attentive. We really enjoyed our time at this restaurant.

Another NJ find. This restaurant was located across the street from the Doubletree I was staying in. I have a deep love foe Mexican food and could literally eat it every day. While this is a Mexican/American type restaurant, I had my reservations as to how good the Mexican side would be. Those concerns were put to rest very quickly as I started with heir chips & salsa. They were both home made and extremely yummy!! I had the steak fajitas, and they were amazing! I did have to try the American side though and got a order of the jambalaya and brussels sprouts. The two were about as good as it gets I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone passing through the Fairfield New Jersey area.

We enjoyed the decor and the lively atmosphere. Came here for date night, menu is simple and to the point. Very reasonably priced. We ordered the frozen margarita grande and the strawberry margarita , both very delicious. Appetizers were queso, which was meh… very velveeta vibe ..nothing special but still a good choice, guacamole, which was excellent, fresh and totally nailed it and they serve the chips and salsa on the house . The chips are hot with a fresh healthy sprinkling of salt, much appreciated! Hub ordered the gumbo ( not pictured ) and said it was very good. We ordered the fajita for two and here is where I was not happy. The meat was so over cooked and served on a sizzling skillet so of course the already over cooked meat is just turning into rubber at that point. It was beyond overcooked and once we realized it ,we couldn’t get it off the skillet fast enough. We asked before ordering about the serving size because it says for two … so is it enough for two starving people or just enough for two people after stuffing themselves with corn chips. The server assured us we would each be able to get 4 fajitas out of it…. We got a full skillet or so it looked, we ordered the half chicken half steak. It was mostly chicken, a few pieces of steak and the rest was onions. We were able to make 4 fajitas each, however the meat did not last. Also, be aware there is nothing in addition to the meat or onions on the skillet ( not a pepper in sight) . Next, the little dish with all the condiments, that mountain in the middle we thought was cheese … was not. It was lettuce with a topping of cheese on top of the lettuce … disappointment. The server was very friendly and attentive. Overall, not the best but most certainly a better choice than some of the other restaurants with this cuisine.

Our easy go-to spot for tex-mex food. I was first hooked by their enchilladas here. The portions are generous and the flavors are very good as well. Our other go-to order are their burros and fajitas. They all taste delicious and full of flavor. The jambalayas is a good side as well. Some of the food can be salty though but i forgot which one it was exaclty since its been a while. Whatever day of the week it is, Jose Tejas always has a good number of customers which speaks a lot about a restaurant. But also means the place could get really noisy. Not that I mind. They give you chips and salsa while you wait for your orders which is very appreciated. For the menu, it hasnt really changed over the years which is good. Still bummed they dont do take outs but no biggie. Fun spot for drinks and to hang out with friends.

I went to this amazing place tonight to try some new food because a friend recommended me and everywhere was closed today, at first I thought it was going to just be like one of those places and for some reason I never wanted to be there but as soon as I got here and we sat down my wife and I both just knew that this was going to be an amazing place, and it was. I definitely enjoyed the appetizers which definitely had a lot of kick to it was a really good two appetizers and then the main dishes came out and it was really something though not one of your casuals places and supposedly a chain I would definitely come back here in a heartbeat. This place is definitely got a personality and definitely quality some thing of which you were looking both for when you go out to a nice restaurant. The owner doesn’t believe in social media and stuff like that and believes in word of mouth the original method of marketing. But I definitely agree when I see a good place I’ll definitely go there again I’ll highly recommend Jose Tejas at 647 US Highway 46, follow my ig for more reviews, exact name as my profile

Went for lunch when they first opened on a Thursday and there was already a line outside but it was worth the wait because everyone was seated right away! Staff is friendly and food comes out quickly. We each ordered fajitas and enjoyed it. We love coming here when it's not busy 😂

Used to come here like 20 years ago. Seems their menu has shrunk. The gumbo was delicious. The Camptown Shrimp had a good amount of spice to it. The Jambalaya was probably the worst thing I had. It was super salty and dry. It felt like it was at the bottom of the container where it had sat and soak up all the sauce and dried out. Overall the experience was good.

I eat here every few months. I ordered takeout tonight. Was supposed to be ready by 7:15 so I arrived at 7:10. Food was ready until 7:45. Most of the dishes were overly spicy. Normally this place is good, but tonight everything was just off.

Great time, waitress was nice, attentive, polite. Blackened chicken fingers with dipping sauce was good, not my sons favorite but it waS good, guacamole very good, Jim bowie steak over rice and fries was good, steak was cooked perfect and dipping sauce was amazing, they could of added more rice but taste was good, guaho chicken tasty, more rice could of been served with dish, burrito with rice : burro was great rice wasn't so great not sure what through off the taste wasn't bad just the seasoning. Overall experience was great. Just that more rice should be added, Definitely not authentic Mexican food but it was good. Sangria was good.

I never have any issues at Jose's! Maybe a little wait time for a table, but the service is always quick and the food is soooo good. They start you off with home made chips and salsa on the house. What ever you decide to order always is fresh and comes to your table still sizzling.

Cute date night place, with good mexican food! They have dine in options or bar seat options available. Their chips + salsa was a great starter, the tortilla chips were especially fresh and tasty. The staff was friendly.

Went here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, and the place was packed, had to wait for 15min before we got a table, the menu was decent, ordered for the blackened chicken which was very well spiced and cooked to perfection, actually everything we ordered was so good, the service too was excellent and fast, ambience was ok, restrooms were well maintained and clean, will be back.

The food was pretty good! It was my first time, and it was definitely a different food fusion with the cajun and Mexican. The blackened chicken was awesome, but Im not too fond of the cajun marmalade that comes with it. The Fajitas were really good as well.

21 years in this beautiful country and this is the worst Mexican wanna be restaurant so far. Food is bad!!!! I thought asadero restaurante at Rochelle park was bad, this one takes the cake. Their margaritas are premade, they serve them from a jar that was previously fill up.! Every time the bartender grabs a margarita glass from above their head they stick their dirty fingers inside of it. Wife was very disappointed Their burrito, looks more like a enchilada and their chicken Cajun is plain nasty. Why is this place so busy?

We ordered curbside pickup for dinner. Ordered the vegetarian empanadas, the blackened chicken appetizer and another chicken (gaoucho I believe). We arrived at the place in 25 minutes and parked at a spot behind the building as the pickup order instructed, text the number on at the sign there with the last name on the order and the spot we were in and immediately received a response that our order was ready and someone brought it out right away. Fast service with curbside still available when ever other places acts like covid is over. The food was amazing and I ordered the blackened chicken because the menu mentioned a spicy marmalade which did not disappoint. I would recommend the empanadas and the blackened chickens with the marmalade. I'm only on me Jersey for a week but might go get food from there again before I leave.
