Very detailed museum that explains thoroughly how the French people lived, resisted and fought during the German occupation. You need to read a lot in order to enjoy the visit, but the explanations are well written and presented in French, English and German. There are not many objects, if you don't want to read about the history, there is not much to see. If you live in Grenoble you'll want to take note of the addresses mentioned in the permanent exhibit, because most are within walking distance and the buildings usually have a little plaque explaining its importance during the war. This museum makes you feel very close to this dark period in history, not only in time, but specially when you realize that a lot of the events happened in places where now there are stores, shopping malls and hotels.

Very interesting museum with lots of different resources to make understand this painful period and what it meant not only in the area of Grenoble but in the rest of the country. The explanation about the "maquis" of the region and the deceiving propaganda produced to first tempt and later force the French young men to go to Germany to work was for me presented in a very clear way. It' s a must see for at least all the europeans.

A great place of remembrance. Another free must do of the city. A little downside of the museum, only 4 pictures of the people that are a shame of the city, this part needs to be more extensive in my opinion. No need to be ashamed of the dark part of our history, don't forget it, do not hide it, to not repeat it. Other than that, a great place with tons of original documents.

The Museum is free and fantastic but the air conditioning didn't work on this visit that made it an awful environment to see the terrific and thought provoking exhibits and artifacts. It was my second visit but it was a super hot day in Grenoble that detracted greatly but it is one of the best museums on the subject.

I found it a very interesting museum. I spent around 1.5 hrs, and it was open on Tuesday afternoon, unlike many other museums in Grenoble. There are English and German translations on the panels, which was very appreciated.

Eintritt frei. Alles dreisprachig (D, GB, F) bis auf den Film, der merkwürdigerweise gelegentlich kein Bild sondern nur Ton hat. Recht stimmungsvoll inszeniert.

A great visual treat of french history

The museum is, appropriately, dark and mysterious. Like the resistance members, it hides itself and is reluctant to be seen. By which I mean that it has few exhibits that relate directly to the French resistance movement. There is a lot of reading to be done, especially about the Second World War and how it impacted France, and an audio-visual that for some reason has no images or footage in a few places even though the sound continues. Local resistance heroes and heroines are justly celebrated, but as a museum it is a bit sparse in presenting the overall experience. Still, entrance is free, and if it's a boiling hot summer's day outside you'll appreciate the opportunity to become a shadow operative for a while.

Wonderfully presented collection of rare and unique documents, pictures, equipment and certificates from the occupation of France. A moving tribute to such an important piece of history; a horrific story that never must be forgotten.

This little museum is a treasure of information about the Grenoble area during WW2. The emphasis is on the many French who supported Allied efforts with underground fighting. The museum also details the treatment of Jewish citizens during the war. It is free and worth your time.

Perfect for children, lots of animals and not a huge museum so they don't have the time to get bored.

  • 5/5 A H. 4 years ago on Google
Many, very well preserved and presented (stuffed) animals from the local fauna. Impressive collection of stones. Detailed section on the geology of the Alps with plenty of fossils. Huge collection of bugs. Kids friendly. The animals section is not very scientifically/taxonomically detailed though. Children/family friendly :)

Beautiful small museum. An hour is enough. 1st floor exhibits all sorts of beautiful animals (stuffed), including some amazing birds. 2nd floor is more about ancient geological history of the region, and has fossils and also a remarkable collection of gem stones.

An interesting place to visit. I would recommend it. In whole France do not speak in English and even if you speak in English they keep speaking in French. So this time I purchased tickets in Bulgarian which totally confused them. In conclusion they gave us visitor tickets for free and wished us enjoyable stay at Grenoble 😄

What is an ibex doing next to a bar ???. And a big problem, very little light, forced to turn on the light of the phone to see something, especially for insects. (Original) Beaucoup de choses a voir. For those who only vaguely remember their history lessons, she sets the record straight, and gives the context of the current temporary exhibition: Women in the 1940s. A true eye opening experience, realizing the horror of world war 2 and the brave souls that fought valiantly to keep their freedom. Hard not to tear up after reading all the placards. However as a non speaking French person, the writing in English was very very small and at the bottom of the plack, had to bend over or squat to read, but well worth the effort

full of moving accounts of many lives from the mid-1930s through wwii. there are many artefacts from the time and they’re laid out logically, the museum gives the resistance movements of the isère region great dignity.
