Bar Vittorio Emanuele

A really nice location for a meal or just a drink. We stopped for a light lunch and had a table right on the edge of the portico. The food was very good (prosciutto e melone, insalata), and the wait staff was on it as well. Drinks were served and nothing was missed on the order. The location is excellent to linger as well being right on Piazza Maggiore and, being a few steps up, a good view of the world passing by. Prices are a little high due to the location, but if you are making time for la dolce vita, this is a good spot.

I recommend the bar for the view. However there should not be crushed ice in the porn star martini, this ruined it. Service is friendly.

A wonderful spot, right in the main square of Bologna! You can have just a coffee or a full dinner! And we were lucky to be served by an exceptionally good young guy! In summer you can also dine watching movies in the piazza Maggiore!

Does it take a bit longer to get served? Yes. Are you sitting at the biggest bar on the main square? Also yes 😅 please learn some patience! We were sceptical after the reviews, but after having been there for breakfast, and evening drinks a few times I am confident that the low review scores here seem to forget that not everywhere is a small intimate location that can give you fast service. Chill out, enjoy the views of the square and the music from the buskers, the drinks are reasonably priced and come pretty quickly once they're ordered. It's fairly standard here to order via waiter and then pay at the bar so please don't feel discriminated against if you're told to order via the waiter but see others at the bar...

Beautiful place facing the Basilica di San Petronio. Ideal for a coffee or a drink while listening to those playing music in the public square. If you are visiting piazza Maggiore and want to have a refreshing break, then this is the place to be.

Nice place on the piazza, but very unfriendly staff. Want to sit in the sun, waiter closed the curtain .. nobody want it to be closed, but the waiter had it to “hot” .. it was 19degrees outside ?

hatten ganz vorne plätze mit blick auf den piazza maggiore bei strahlendem sonnenschein. war sehr entspannt, aber der service war eher mau. man musste selber oft auch sich aufmerksam machen bis jemand kam. haben es trotzdem genossen da die lage einfach top war. preislich war es auch nicht ohne, aber man gönnt sich ja sonst nichts.

It's a shame that a cafe is located in a square where anyone would like to sit, eat and drink and have a good time, they don’t understand the soul of the business. I generally try not to make negative comments but I really felt like I was in a tourist trap. We are in Bologna, an ideal place to enjoy gastronomic delicatesse and it is not understandable that they only offer you potato chips with a certain aptitude that leaves much to be desired. But, if you're just looking to have a half-cold beer, it may be the place to be. It would be ideal if they had an offer of snacks and worked on motivating the staff, to understand that customers are not there asking for favors, they are there paying for a service and by paying for that service the restaurant can make ends meet and pay their payroll.

It would be great if this pleased everyone but realistically you pay extra for the location and in fact not more than some others with no view or sunshine. Our waiter was friendly and probably too few for the number of people which makes it tough for them. My aperol spritz were ok, didn't eat food, but honestly in tourist central I would unfortunately expect much. I totally recommend coming here though as a drink or two in the sun and some people watching. Don't complain just enjoy. I do have to agree the toilets were terrible but imagine there are a lot of walk ins and priority not given to this...

Went here several times during my holiday and shocked to see the low rating. Not what I experienced at all! We had great waiters who remembered us when coming back, service is quick too. Great coffee and Campari Spritz, the snacks are all right. This is a perfect spot for people watching and enjoying the hustle and bustle on the square.

Had a negroni and apperol, which were good and came with complimentary snacks. Service was also good and the atmosphere is fantastic. I don’t understand all the hate.

A fantastic spot with fair prices and a prime location in Piazza Maggiore. The drinks are excellent, and the service is consistently friendly. We enjoyed it so much that we visited five times in just three days!

I loved sitting at Bar Vittorio Emanuele and just sip my morning coffee and watch the world pass by. The location is amazing, the coffee is great. It was a regular start to my day in Bologna and it will be again on my next visit.

Extremely Disappointing Experience During our recent visit to this beautiful city, we decided to stop by this establishment, only to be met with one of the worst customer service experiences we’ve ever encountered. Despite the natural draw of the location and the constant crowd, the staff were astonishingly rude and inattentive. The waiters showed a complete lack of professionalism, even going as far as shouting at customers. One of particularly problematic waiters claimed he had been working there for three years without any issues, but it was clear from his attitude that he has little regard for how customers feel. A quick look at online reviews reveals that this is far from an isolated incident, and that the establishment has an ongoing pattern of poor service. We raised our concerns with the manager, who, although she listened, seemed uninterested in resolving the issues. It was clear that the staff and management feel they can disregard customer service because of the steady stream of tourists. This behavior is unacceptable, especially for a business located in such a prime, touristic area. As representatives of the city, they have a responsibility to uphold a welcoming atmosphere, yet they are severely diminishing the reputation of the location. I sincerely hope the local authorities take notice, as such establishments tarnish the image of an otherwise wonderful destination.

The staff is rude with an attitude. I asked a simple question it was my first interaction with the waitress and she was already mad at me. Also we were asked to pay mid through our first drinks, even though we wanted to order more. And it was a long waiting time for them to take the order, but the place itself is nice since you can sit outside on the main square and look at the views.

Great views, friendly staff and reasonable price

It‘s a tourist trap. We ordered a yoghurt bowl, what we got, was one tablespoon of yoghurt and two dates with honey for 8€. The Focaccia was hard as stone and also really small, as for the toast, it would have been better, if we just bought it in any super market. I would not recommend it to anyone. Just a few streets away we saw way nicer restaurants, where the food looked actually enjoyable.

Cher, pas bon et lent

They add money to your bill if you don't pay attention. Food was good so if that's what your focus is then go for it. But then everything else is horrible. I wish I read previous reviews but just stopped by while walking around. Service is basically non existent and the server seemed to be 100% checked out mentally and did not care. I saw my server when they dropped off the menu, when they took my order, and when they dropped off the food that was it. I had to flag them down just to pay the tab. I saw other servers leaning against walls on their phone. Then when I got my check I paid then decided to double check the menu prices. They will CHARGE YOU MORE than what you ordered.

very bad experience the table was full of dirty dishes and we helped the waitress clean. aAfter waiting 10 minutes and helping them clean, we started ordering and she refused to sit us outside because webwanted coffee and not aperol. We checked the tables around us and we saw that the italians were drinking coffee and orange juice just next to us, outside. We asked her how can this be possible and she went to “speak” with the manager and she came back to tell us that apparently it was not possible. Again, truly disappointed and you could sense that the only problem was that we are nit italians. Not recommending

This is a great spot to have a drink and watch the outdoor cinema in the summer under the stars. This is our second visit, the service is abrupt and did not improve the second time we went. We had a sandwich and a mini pizza which was alright. Pricey because it’s located in a plaza, as is always the case. Great place for the films, otherwise it probably does deserve the other dodgy reviews.

Siamo andati al bar per un drink e, oltre ad avere una vista spettacolare, sia il servizio che il trattamento del personale sono stati eccezionali. Assolutamente da raccomandare! Ogni volta che torneremo a Bologna ci torneremo, sono state persone meravigliose.

Deludente da un bar in centro a Bologna ci si aspetta ben altro, dopo aver ripetuto più volte la nostra comanda la cameriera sbaglia la nostra ordinazione dopo più di 20 min di attesa
