(Translated by Google) Interesting museum to measure the technical evolution of this sector. Members of different generations of the same family will go there with profit to show the new generations where we come from. Interesting temporary exhibitions although a little limited in size sometimes. (Original) Musée intéressant pour mesurer l'évolution technique de ce secteur. This museum has a rich history describing the origins of the printing press. It initially talks about how printing was done in ancient times using papyrus. Then, it shows the impact of Guttenberg and the Bible he printed. Then, English alphabet font, new papers, magazines, etc. and its impact today.

A wonderful place to visit for graphic design and print technique lovers, set in a traditional Lyonnais architecture building, in the citu centre. Remarkably for a museum of a smaller size, most of the explanations are in both French and English. For me, the highlights were the exhibits on printing and inline typesetting techniques and machines. When I visited, harp lessons were on progress, which added to the atmosphere. Great bookshop covering printing as well, but mainly in French.

Worth the time to visit. I spent a lot more time in there than I had planned because it was so interesting. Exhibits are well explained in both French & English.

Fabulous museum, especially if you're into advertising, graphic design, illustration etc. I would return to Lyon for this museum alone. Even if you're not into visual communication you might still find it interesting as it presents history of printing in a lighthearted manner.

Best pizza i've ever tasted!! Delicious cheeses. Benoit was super friendly, he's the king of pizza. And also I don't want to forget about the craft beer we had, it was really good.

This is an very focused thematic museum, centered on the history of print especially within France (and Lyon). Housed within a number of rooms organized in an eclectic fashion visitors follow a chronological order essentially from Gutenberg to the modern age. It is an interesting exploration of a specific topic in history, offering a bit of a break in a hectic visit to Lyon, but nothing beyond that. More of a passion project and more for those truly interested in this topic. Enjoy! TIME: 45 min to 1 hour

Very interesting and well laid out museum with many artifacts from the history of printing. When we visited there was a temporary exhibit on censorship and books that have been suppressed over time that was moving and thought provoking. Entry was free with the Lyon CityPass, but I would have gladly paid the entry fee.

Really cool museum! I liked both the permanent collection and the special exhibition on jewels. Wide variety of prints, books, and physical objects like presses and lithograph blocks and carving tools. Really cheap tickets, great way to spend a few hours. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful as well, and spoke English.

We visited in October while in lyon for rugby. My wife and I both have an interest in printing and media and this was a great museum. Lots of detail so you can take a lunch break then come back on the same day. Very good

(Translated by Google) This museum is well oriented printing in all its forms from the origins to the present day. The rooms and explanations displayed are very didactic when you take the time to read them. Some materials are surprising (machine enlargement or shrinkage of A Michelet for example). We also understand what the computer has brought when we see all these complex machineries. The rooms, of varying shape, are arranged on several levels or half levels with stairs which can make traffic difficult. I did not pay attention if there was an elevator for people with mobility problems, inquire before. Finally, the staff is very friendly and welcoming. Very well.

This is maybe the best small museum I've been to. It's fascinating and very affordable at (full price) 8 euros. A must for any book lover in the area!

Quite interesting. Has samples of metal set of fonts, print machines, and printed materials from different centuries. For book and type designers it might be quite fascinating to see. But for people who is not much into these things - it might be too long exhibition.

  • 5/5 Stephen P. 4 years ago on Google
OK, so we both work in publishing so we're probably a bit more invested in the content of this museum than most but this place is brilliant. The building itself is beautiful, the staff all incredibly helpful, informative and pleasant, and the exhibition fantastic. Amazing collection of printed materials from Guttenberg up to the mid- to late-twentieth century.

If you are in Lyon and remotely interested in printing than this is a must during your visit to Lyon. It has a prity complete overview of the evolution of the technology starting with wooden plates and ending with modern desktop publishing. What is amazing is that they really have a working Lynotype... A machien that casts (in lead) lines of text you type on a keyboard and mounts them on a plate ready for printing. Many things illustrated with a movie in French and English. Still this is not located in the best building and because of that the optimal way to walk through the museum is difficult. Ask the guides to point you in the right direction if you get lost.

A well structured visit through the history of typography. Although not too many exhibits, they are well presented. Would recommend for any family as well. Welcoming staff, ready to answer any questions. The building gives it an extra flavor of history. Lovely arches and stone decorations. During the summer, the view to the inner courtyard is an added bonus.

(Translated by Google) Absolutely impressive museum housed in a Renaissance building that was Lyon's town hall in the 17th century. The permanent collection is dense, but the objects and the explanations are of great value. The chronological order of the museum which traces the history of printing and graphic communication creates a very pleasant visit, which culminates in reflections on our present world, and how these important elements of history have evolved into what they are today. A must-see museum for understanding the city, France, and the importance of printing in our lives throughout history. Finally, the welcome is very warm, and the building is simply sublime.
