Stunning view but the way up is rough,. unmaintained and the local government is completely letting us down on the amenities and infrastructure: the train to the top is not functioning whereas tons of tourists are asking for it. no toilet, no open cafe (even take away, covid times) at the top, trash bins overflowing. The whole place feels abandoned. What a shame for a Unesco site with such rich histroy. Shame!

A breathtaking view. A 360° panorama of the vulcans that long time ago 'lived' in this area. You can reach the Dome comfortably by train or hiking the hard way. It's nice to see all the paragliders in the air, starting/launching and landing

The views are amazing. Train journey up was smooth running, frequent train times. Only slight thing, the cafe was closing so unable to get lunch.

10th of may....It's my second climb in a year. Perfect weather, blue sky, transparent..we missed the sun rise but we caught the first paragliders take off. Nice time, great view, gentle climb, but starting 10 am, you can get quite some crowds on the path, especially if you walk the sentier des mules. Best time is probably around 7 am, and for sunset.

Went up early on a Monday and almost had the peak to ourselves. The train to the top is worth the trip for the view.

A great place to visit when in Auvergne Rhône Alpes. You can do a short circuit of 30 minutes walking around and visiting couple Of museums about the history of the Puy de dôme.

Be careful. When the weather is cloudy, it’s less chance to have a view here. Because clouds cover all. We see vocals in the train, but see nothing from here, in a cloudy day. Choose a clear day!

We visited in a motorhome so parked in the bus carpark across from the train carpark with other motorhomes. The train to the top is just 3mins walk away. The walk to the top is 6km and 90mins up the south side which is the most popular route. The route down the back, north side is also 6km in 90mins. The south side is uphill all the way with a wide path of gravel and some stones. The south side starts with road beside the railway track, then a timber stairs and then into a wide trail of gravel. The visit to the top is well worth it. We stopped for coffee and cake which was priced ok for where it was. Plenty to see and do with the kids and the views are stunning. Make sure it's a clear day when you visit. It rained as we walked up and could not see a thing. Fortunately it stopped when we got to the top and the walk down was fantastic. It's very popular with joggers and mountain biking so there are many other trail to explore. There are also plenty of geocache treasure here.
