Finally tried African Queen and the wait was literally worth it. We made a reservation for four but weren't seated until about 30 minutes after. They were very busy and we didn't want to leave. The host and servers were all very friendly and accommodating. Now to the food. We had several beers, the Mango was great. The server recommended us their house specialty platter/sampler. It was soooooo good. We ate the entire dish. The meats and veggies were seasoned very well. I loved the spiciness. Overall, I am glad we waited and I can't wait to go again! Cash and card accepted.

Food was really tasty BUT 1. We waited 15 min for a table even though we booked in advance. Had to wait in line same as all the people who didn't make a reservation. What's the point of reserving a table then? 2. They forgot our starters 3. Waited 1h+ for the main course 4. We waited for another 30 minutes for a dessert and 2 beers, even though it was 30 minutes before closing and the restaurant was half empty. I understand that maybe the dessert prep takes time, but 2 beers? Come on All in all: Good food. Prices are okay. Service was bad - at least that day. I don't have 3 hours to go to a restaurant and will not be going back.

My first time to try Eritrean (east African) cuisine. The food had the similar spices of the Indian food, but much much lighter. I would say, Indian food without butter or oil. The lady who served me was very very friendly, and the terrace seats were nice and breezy. What a nice experience!

Friendly and efficient service. Not too big and nice menu. Food was good too. Staff was also able to serve the food for a bigger group almost at the same time. To be honest, I am not a big fan of African cuisine, but after all, I really enjoyed this dinner.

An unusual place, worth a visit). Friendly staff, good service. We just came in to try it out, and based on a recommendation, we took a dish that we really liked. But the food is quite spicy and they serve it with hot sauces. We were absolutely satisfied. Thank you )

I went to the Restaurant because the West African restaurant was closed and because I was so hungry. And I went got there, I found the owners of the restaurant to be so welcoming and I told them that I am not used to East African food and opted to choose for me and the food was so so delicious. I will recommend such a place to my friends without any hesitation.

African Queen is probably the best African restaurant in Frankfurt! The location is nice, service is excellent, food is very delicious and the prices are reasonable. If you are in Frankfurt looking for a traditional African restaurant with real African feeling then you need to go there. I don’t want to exaggerate, just go try for yourself. And they want to bring fufu into the Menu as from next year!! Ps: Don’t forget to make a reservation first :) I will definitely recommend 100%

Is the first time I try African food. The taste was really good, we ordered a dish with a little bit of almost everything, everything was delicious. The bread as well. Very funny the way to drink beer, you should try. The staff was super friendly and they speak of course German but English too.

Very tasty African food, friendly staffs and good vibes. The portion for group share is decent and you can have both vegetarian and all different meat options. If you love something specific, you can also order for yourself, but usually meat options have only salad as decoration. The place is always busy, even with reservation we have to wait for 20mins.

Not just busy, not just great, but amazing. Their powdered chili blends that are delivered before you dinner are spectacular, especially the yellow one. We ordered the vegetarian platter and loved it.

What a cool experience… I would say the most impressive part is their beers, it tastes wonderful. Food was too spicy for me, it would be better if they asked about the spices, but on the other hand I understand that they want to serve the original version of food. we spend around 10 20min until our table gets ready although we had reservations. The atmosphere was nice and there was local music play there. staffs were great. It was a bit pricey but worth it to experience 👍🏻

Wir kamen heute spontan auf die Idee afrikanisch Essen zu gehen. Unser bisheriger Anlaufpunkt hat leider erst Abends geöffnet und so entschieden wir uns für eine neue Erfahrung und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Punkt 12 Uhr standen wir ohne Reservierung im "African Queen" in Frankfurt Bockenheim. Dort wurden wir sehr freundlich begrüßt und bekamen direkt einen schönen Tisch. Wir wurden direkt gefragt, ob wir schonmal da waren und daraufhin ausführlich beraten... nicht nur über die Speisekarte, sondern auch über geografische Lage Eritreas und die dortigen kulinarischen Gepflogenheiten. Wir entschieden uns für eine Vorspeise aus mit eritreischer Butter ausgebackenem Fladenbrot, gewürzt mit Paprika und sehr scharf, aber wahnsinnig lecker. Als Hauptgang entschieden wir uns für die African Queen Platte für 2 Personen. Mein Mann trank ein eritreisches Bier namens Ma Suwa mit Mango, was sehr lecker und widererwartend nicht sehr süß war. Beim Warten auf das Essen haben wir den schön eingerichteten Innenraum des Restaurants bewundert. Nach und nach füllte es sich auch. Dann kam der Hauptgang, der uns ausführlich erklärt wurde. Es war nicht nur Optisch ein Hingucker, sondern auch ein echtes Geschmackserlebnis ! Die African Queen Platte lässt keine Wünsche offen, denn es befindet sich von Allem etwas darauf. Rindfleisch, Hühnchen, Lamm, Kichererbsenbrei, Linsen, Spinat und Kartoffeln . Dazu gibt es Gewürze, das typische saure Brot und bei Bedarf auch Besteck. Wir haben allerdings, so wie es sich gehört, mit den Fingern gegessen. Was soll ich schreiben?! Es war köstlich ! Zwischendrin wurde immer mal wieder, aber sehr unaufdringlich, gefragt ob Alles okay ist. Zum Abschluss gab es noch ein afrikanisches ( Ma Suwa ) Bier mit Kokos. Da wir so begeistert waren, haben wir direkt für unseren Jahrestag reserviert. Zusätzlich positiv zu erwähnen ist, dass es viel Vegetarisches/ Veganes gibt. Auch gibt es eine vegetarische/ vegane Platte für mehrere Personen

Great homely place. Went there for lunch for some East African food. Interior is beautiful so is the food. Can be a little spicy so do ask which ones are suited to your taste buds. Would come here again when am in Frankfurt.

Was good but it didn't fit me, maybe it's not my kind of food but the service was fast, the waiter was also helpful. the food was really spicy and some beef pieces was really hard to chew. Sambosas are delicious!

A must-go for all lovers of the African cuisine. Food is simply amazing, staff is friendly and if it’s your first time here, they’ll explain you everything about Eritrean cuisine and traditions. It’s not the first time that I tasted this kind of cuisine, but this is definitely the best place in Frankfurt to do so. Also, it was very crowded on Monday evening- a sign that the place is very well known.

Really nice restaurant. Food is great. It’s a must try. One must be very of long waiting times despite making reservations in advance on Saturdays and rush hours. I absolutely love all the flavors. I tried Shiro in my last visit, which is a chickpea paste based recipe and really loved it. Personally, I am not a big fan of the bread.

The ambience was good, the staff was hospitable and friendly and told us a bit how the food is usually eaten in its authentic way, meanwhile, still respect us to eat the way we want. The food is rich of taste, even though I’m not keen on African food, I’m still good with it.

Such an amazing experience, the food is super tasty with the spices and herbs. Almaz was brilliant, friendly, explaining, suggesting…. - it is a MUST try! Oh! Forgot to mention, I have tried the passion fruit beer, it’s a wow beer - no idea why it’s not served elsewhere :)

Hier kann man nur von absoluter Gastfreundschaft, tollem Service und einer sagenhaften Geschmacksexplosion sprechen. Es war unser erstes mal in einem afrikanischen Restaurant und wir waren alle begeistert. Die Gewürze super abgestimmt, das Fleisch zart. Absolute Empfehlung

The vibes are great, the staff are super friendly, and the food is incredible. I’m a huge fan of African food and visited many restaurants around the US, but nothing compares to African Queen in Frankfurt. Whenever I visit Germany I now go out of my way to stop by African Queen. 10/10

Wir haben uns zufällig für das Restaurant entschieden. Es war eine sehr gute Wahl. Die Bedienungen waren sehr freundlich. Das Essen und Trinken kam schnell und war sehr lecker . Es wurde uns auch erklärt was alles auf der African Queen Platte drauf ist und wie man das mit den Händen ist .Besteck gab es aber auch 😁. Wenn es nicht so weit von unserem Wohnort wäre,würden wir dort öfters Essen gehen.

I've never had East African food before and this was absolutely incredible! The whole ambiance of the African Queen restaurant was so cozy and welcoming, the staff explained everything and were SO kind and sweet, and again, the food was just stunning. I don't remember the last time I was wow'd by food but this was one of those times. Thank you to the owner, staff, and the chefs for introducing me to this fabulous cuisine. I highly recommend anyone to dine here for this wonderful cultural experience.

Nach 1 1/2 Stunden warten, wurde das Essen nur lauwarm geliefert. Bei beiden Gerichten war das Rindfleisch zäh wie Schuhsohle, teilweise von außen komplett schwarz und trocken von innen, als würde ich Trockenfleisch essen.

This is the first time I’ve ever tried african food and it was truly the best place to do it. For drinks we had african beers and some homemade cocktails, both were great. Then for food we got the traditional plate for 3 people even though we were 4, and it was enough for a light dinner. It was served with their traditional bread which has a pancake-like texture. We also had the ice cream and temri for dessert which I highly recommend everyone should try! If you are looking for something different to try I definitely recommend coming here!

Special atmosphere, special food, cool African beer

Wonderful and friendly staff. Great food. Every dish we had was mouthwatering. Kids loved it too. They kept asking us to go back the next day lol. The African queen dish or combo plate for 2 adults was sufficient for 2 adults and 2 kids. We also had the sambusas (appetizer like an Indian samosa) before so it was just right. Also nice outdoor seating. We had lunch here after paying a visit to the experimenta science museum.

Classic Ethiopian fare - lentils, spinach, potatoes served on leavened bread. The restaurant has nice outdoor seating. The service, although very friendly, becomes somewhat slow when it's busy, though. Food was good, but I would have wished for the dishes to have more distinct flavours. They do bring a spice tray, but I prefer spices to be cooked into the stew.

Great Ethiopian food, very authentic. The service was great. The owner was very friendly so as the rest of the staff. We only visited Frankfurt for 3 days and we went to the restaurant twice. Definitely going back next time we are visiting Frankfurt!

Went here for dinner to celebrate my anniversary. Service was exceptional. Staff was very friendly and attentive, and gave us a description of all the sides that existed in our meal. Our leftovers were packed very nicely as well as a little extra. Definitely look forward to dining here again.
