Probably my favourite place in Frankfurt. There is a fantastic 4 screen installation on the second floor a I believe where they display a beautiful movie clip collage of the key elements of film. I'm not entirely sure how long we were sat there but it was like we were sucked into this experience for surely over an hour, and I wasn't mad at it. Reminds me the triptych paintings in the Rothko chapel, except this is film art. On the same floor there is also an interactive section where you can experience how green screens work, and the power lighting has in story telling. Our admission was for the permanent exhibit and also Space Odessey exhibit they had the time, it was about 13€, definitely worth it, I think just the permanent exhibit was about 6€. It's a great museum. Would definitely come again if I am ever in Frankfurt.

Definitely one of the top museums I've been to. A great concept and idea for the exhibitions, very well organized, a lot of highly valuable information and thought-provoking content, a lot of interactivity, a lot of samples, can't think of many things that they could have done better. Valuable for both long-time cinema fans and those who don't know much about it.

Super interesting and unique museum with two floors in the permanent exhibition. Lots of immersive exhibits and two areas where you can sit and watch clips. The full two floors will take around 2 hours to explore fully. Also, the toilets here are really pretty!

We really enjoyed our visit here:) We didn't have a lot of time to walk around the exhibitions (we had an hour roughly) but we still covered both open exhibitions. There is one permanent exhibition and the other one - "Katastrophe" was the temporary exhibition that portrayed catastrophic events and disasters in movies. Both exhibitions were great but we liked the permanent one better, thought it was more interesting and appealing:) It is also more interactive and has many unique items on display. They have reduced-priced tickets for students. I would recommend checking out this museum if you're around!

This museum is really worth visiting. We spent 2 hours here but one can easilly spend more time as well.. :) I was so happy to see sketches from Snow White and Peter Pan. The video compillations they show are nicely illustrating how light, colours and editing express feelings.

Very interesting museum with interactive exhibits. Informative movies to watch from the beginning of cinema to the present day. We particularly enjoyed the green screen experience.

A fascinating place with great exhibits. The examples of early film technology were interesting and the information that explains how modern films are made was fantastic. We spend a good 2 hours going around, taking in all the facts and watching the film snippets. Highly recommended if you're looking for something to do in Frankfurt and you love movies.

We really had a lot of time in front of the green background where you see yourself in an animation. It was cool! Also you have a chance to play with dialogues and background music for some iconic scenes from iconic films like Matrix.

such a unique and captivating place! we loved all the things you could interact with on the first floor, and we especially enjoyed the light + color exhibit that compared the same pattern in different movies on the second floor. and the staff couldn’t have been nicer! especially the lady at the reception and the staff at the cafe (that serves a mean cup of coffee and has the tastiest cheesecakes)! if you’re looking for something fun (and unexpectedly fascinating) to do on your visit to frankfurt, look no further! this is the place.

Excellent, exhaustive compilation of cinema material and tools throughout the history of (motion) pictures, such as caleidoscopes, stroboscopes, magic lanterns, lamascopes, camera obscuras, kinenatofors, zoetropes, mutoscopes, kinoras, flip books, and many others. Nearly all explanations are in English and German. The green screen (where you could take a family pic on a magic carpet) and the kids' crafts (where they can make flip books), both on the top floor, provide the visitors with extra fun and they round the visit up.

My visit to the museum was incredible! I love films and I was truly impressed by the collection. A variety of film gear from the past, surprising props from the famous films and of course the way everything is organized and structured! Besides, we get to participate in a game where you look at a picture for one second and then had describe it to your team partner. The winning team gets a prize! Fantastic experience. I will treasure the memories from this museum. Recommend it to anyone!

Tolles Museum.

Nice museum illustrating the history of film and all of parts needed to become a film. Lots of interactive section where both adults and childrens can enjoy the charm of film making. Only €6 per person for all the fun. Although I have expected more in-depth section of German expressionismus film since its in Frankfurt, the museum focuses on general history of film. Still it was worth visiting👍🏻

Current exhibition about catastrophe is very thought provoking and even chilling when to think about it. I like the idea of disaster movies being a spark for a discussion about (upcoming) real life changes. I also enjoy going to the cinema at the museum

A must see experience if you're a film lover. The permanent exhibition has lots of valuable pieces from history of cinema. When I visited there was a temporary exhibition called 'Katastrophe' which was interesting as well. The ticket prices are reasonable and there's discount for students. Great place to spend time when in Frankfurt.

One of the most interesting museums I’ve seen. The first two floors cover the history of moving pictures, from early optical illusions and cycloramas to early camera obscura set ups and trick photography. The top floor has lots of different interactive and multimedia displays of different techniques and technical aspects in filmmaking. It’s a fantastic museum to visit if you have a couple of hours in Frankfurt. They also have a small theater on the lower floor where they show currrent and classic films from different countries. Non-German films are subtitled in German.

An interesting museum with some fun moments, such as the interactive green screen and lighting. The staff were polite but it wasn't very well explained where we needed to go. I was also expecting more from the museum, but it didn't take long to get through.

The museum is really interesting with its interactive exhibition. It's not a huge museum that you have way too much to see, but still you can gain a lot through visiting. It takes about 2 hours to finish everything. Definitely recommend it :)

A museum for all film lovers where they will teach you about the history of film, interactively use all historical film props and enjoy famous shots. Shooting and taking pictures with a flash is prohibited inside the facility. The entrance fee is 6 euros, and if you want interactive content, you pay 12 euros. There is a cinema on the ground floor of the building! :)

A beautiful collage of the history of big screen from the beginning of screen capture in the 19th century till the special effects of the early 21st century. The permanent exhibition is exciting but there is always a beautiful theme playing in temporary display. The collection of instruments used for screen capture for over one and half centuries is stunning.

  • 4/5 Toby M. 2 years ago on Google
A nice little museum charting the origin of moving images and film. I only visited the permanent exhibition which is split between early history and modern cinematography/film making. If I had one objection it’s that there was a bit of a disconnect between the 2 halves.

  • 2/5 Roman M. 2 years ago on Google
to be honest I am disappointed. I have bought full price ticket for 12€, including the main exhibition and the temporary one. temporary was about disasters. the whole museum is boring, there is too few information and interactivity. I wouldn't recommend it to buy. better to wait museum night or something

Amazing museum dedicated to the history of cinematography(Film/Movie). It show’s exits of some costumes used for epic movies (as Predator vs. Allien). The second part has some interactive screens especially interesting for kids.

Not big, but we liked the way it conveys the beginning of cinema, with concrete examples, it is interactive, so you can experience it all by yourself. A lot of information in english. TIme to spend - about 2 hours.

  • 5/5 Erik C. 1 year ago on Google
Had to come and rate this place with an easy 5 stars. It's not a huge museum but what it lacks in space they make up for with great interactive experiences. As a film buff I felt like a kid in a candy store. As a scuba diver I felt even better as their temporary exhibit housed an underwater film display. Their exhibits on the history of film are very informative and even better is the fact that you can use some of the old equipment. Additionally their little movie rooms are great and they've taken care to show you clips that are very relevant to what's in the museum. Finally I thought their green screen and editing rooms were amazing and I spent way too much time in there playing with things. I would say this is a must see in Frankfurt.

  • 5/5 Adrian S. 1 year ago on Google
Very interesting and interactive museum. Slightly leaning on the expensive side especially if one buys the combined ticket (€12 for adults). They also have a cinema that regularly screens not-so-mainstream movies at a price lower than commercial cinemas, which is worth checking out.
