A beautiful marae important to the Polynesian people. Very easy to walk, be mindful of rocks and tree roots.

Interesting place. I wish they showed what they think it looked like when it was in activity.

A must stop if you're on Raiatea, the heart of French Polynesia ❤️ There is a little parking lot with nice bathrooms and a manned information booth. There are two pamphlets (which come in English too!) - get them both! They are numbered and correspond with the numbered artifacts and can be extremely helpful guiding you around the site. It can be muddy and sandy so dress appropriately. They do have a shoe clean off area back near the parking lot when you are finished. There are so many cool and interesting things to see and read. Take the time to stop and read all of the plaques, be quiet and take in the gravity of what this historical site means and what has happened there. Be respectful and do not walk on the marae grounds or artifacts. I would say it took us a maybe an hour to walk around and thoroughly see and read everything.

Nice historial site with remains of what once was the central temple and religious center of Eastern Polynesia and since 2017 is part of the UNESCO world heritage list. Definitely worth stopping if your have a vehicle in Raiatea and can get to the south part of the island. The enclave is unique as it was the gateway for ships to get into the island if approved by the ancient authorities. You will be able to hike a bit on the other side of the road to where the viewpoint was located for those incoming ships.

UNESCO World Heritage site. It was the cradle of Polynesian culture in the south Pacific. Havaii or Raíatea was the center of the whole Polynesians, including the Hawaiian, the Maoris in New Zealand, and Rapa Nui or the Easter Island, the Tahiti etc. I have seen Ahu or the platform for the Maois in the Eastern island similar to this site.

Interesting visit with just the right amount of information about the history etc. Worth a visit and perhaps a visit to the pearl farm a few kms further south on the island.

Love this place. Is full of maraes (around 5) and according to the legend was one of the most important in all polynesian island. Actually there's crabs anywhere in this marae.

Interesting sites. Free, self guided tour. Took us about 30 minutes. There are restrooms and drinking fountains at the parking lot

Sacred archeological remains of a culture that utilized these short platforms constructed of volcanic rock for various purposes. Some were for weddings, others for games, the Royal Marae for sacrifice. A beautiful place to step into the past.

Very nice! Historic site, large and right on the ocean. There are bathrooms there that are decent but not perfect. And there's no potable water

The purported cradle of Polynesian civilization is cool and all but I could spend an hour finding land crabs to photo.

Our Tour guide Teva from Teva & Flo ( they are a small business couple team that only has a facebook page) took time to educate our group on the cultural history and importance of this Unesco site and Raiatea that is beyond what is inscribed on the plaques and tourist boards.
