DESIGNPANOPTIKUM- surreal museum for industrial objects

Tourist attraction Museum

🫤 Parts of items randomly put together to form abstract objects in a few rooms. Somewhat interesting to look at, but definitely not worth the €13 price tag. People often mention museum, objects, owner, interesting, items, collection, industrial, experience, worth, rooms,

The art behind it is not the reason why I went there - but that's on me, I'm not an art connoisseur. But I love industrial design and there is plenty of it on offer. Some things you know, some things you don't. And the museum director who created this art there is a funny man who is happy to explain to you in German, English or Russian what his art is all about.

Honestly any 5 star reviews are fake. The owner is a really nice guy but it’s not worth it. 3 small rooms of random stuff (anything interesting is pictured in the review) Was 12 euros, needs to be 5 or so to be worth it.

Just stop by and be surprised. Only the entrance ticket of 10 euros can be a bit off-putting. Otherwise, you will find over 1000 objects spread across several rooms, some of which are put together and displayed in a sensible or not sensible way. In any case, there are many curiosities among them.

A bizarre and quirky little place crammed with oddities patchworked together in unlikely combinations. Everything here was once a functional item but try working out what it all is..... Vlad is an exceptional host around his museum. For 10€ it's a bargain if you like weird and unusual things, we really enjoyed looking around this collection.

A weird and creativity-inducing museum! The owner is very engaging, and has set up industrial peaceful objects into ways that lead us to think they're harmful objects. He knows the exact use of every item on display, and it's fun to guess what they were used for. Don't miss the photographs he captured.

Recommended. You can see very interesting objects from the past that could appear as science fiction pieces today. The museum owner runs the tours himself...You're always amazed at what he has to say. An absolute tip for Berlin travelers.

One of the best places we visited in Berlin - a treasure trove of interesting objects from a whole host of different places. The owner really makes the place more atmospheric, happy to provide you with a little tour before leaving you to explore the collection. If you’re looking for something a bit different to do, try this place.

I came across the DesignPanoptikum in Berlin through the Explo app. 🏛️🎭 This museum is a unique collection of objects that blurs the boundaries between art and everyday objects. The exhibition is reminiscent of a surreal dream world and offers endless photo opportunities. 📷👀 For anyone who loves the strange and unusual, this museum is an absolute must.

Very interesting art exhibit. I really enjoyed the tour from the owner, who gave a history of some of the items in the museum. Very interesting and funny guy

We were there years ago and loved it! Really unusual.

Excellent museum, but be aware it differs a lot with the normal "buy a ticket and watch" experience. Even though you might have to wait some time before getting in, you get a private explanation from the owner of the museum, and the message he wants to pass with it. Tons of opportunities for photos are avalaible, just plan ahead due to the low light atmosphere of the underground rooms. I wouldn't suggest bringing young children in there, since some items/pictures could disturb them. Best (and most original) museum I've seen in Berlin so far!

Visiting this museum is an experience for sure :D the artist who brought this collectiom together greeted us at the door and explained to us his ambition. There were many different industrial pieces inside that we did not understand the usage of. We took pictures of everything and on out way out showed and asked about each one. Never had such an experience in a museum before.

An unusual art installation of collected objects arranged in ways that make you think about their use and design. The owner gives a theatrical guided tour so it feels quite intimate. I wanted to know more about the objects and where they’d come from but the idea was to let it spark your imagination!

This place is absolutely worth a visit. It’s unique and looks incredibly cool, but it’s all made so much better by the passion of the curator. There is an obvious love of industrial objects, and I really enjoyed how he shared this. Ordinary objects are posed in extraordinary ways to draw you in and he invited all the visitors to take photos of any objects they were curious about, so he could explain their use. Just an absolute joy, and one of my all time favourite places I’ve ever visited.

A really great surprise. We were welcomed by the shiny creator of this very particular little museum. Come with your brain or not (it's better with 😉) but come !

This place was somewhat interesting. Most of the items in there you won’t understand what they are about, but that’s OK. Less than half of em are worth examining though. The experience lasts between 20-30 mins, therefore, 13€ is somewhat expensive. No card payment available!

  • 2/5 Varga Ștefan S. 1 year ago on Google
They don t take cards and the guy gave me atitude for not having enough cash. Apparentley as he explained, they are not willing to pay bank fees jut for the sake of those pesky tourists. Gave it 2 stars because from the entrance it looked cool.

Beginning with a lively and fascinating introduction by the owner, including an insight into his vision behind the museum, this private collection of industrial and medical curiosities is a must-see when visiting Berlin. Hidden on a cute side street off Alexanderplatz, this collection is a real treasure trove and clearly a labour of love by the owner. I haven’t seen a collection quite like this anywhere else in the world (and I seek out places like this wherever I go!) It’s only open on Thursdays and Saturdays so be sure to factor it into your itinerary.

probably one of the most interesting experiences u can do in berlin ! highlight of our trip. incredibly impressive pictures by the owner. very informative if u do ask questions, but it's amazing just to wonder what you're looking at. it's definitely something different

Go with no expectations and leave with a head full of wonder. The owner / guide is a fascinating man. His life’s work is both curious and joyful. Well worth the entry fee.

Incredible Sammlung of analogue vintage Kino Medical Industrial wonders. Fritz Lang expressionism with a creative and positive spin. Vlad is an ace guide and the creator of this wonderful artistic space. Design as a resistance to the digital age. Definitely worth the visit. Close to Alexander Platz!

  • 5/5 Ellie Z. 2 years ago on Google
This museum is delightful. The way Vlad has curated and arranged the objects within it makes it incredibly fun to walk through and theorize about uses for each object with friends. Vlad himself is very knowledgeable and infectiously passionate about the museum. Highly recommended.

This is an awesome experience if you want a self guided experience where you can marvel at technologically complex objects, guess what they do, or if they have any function at all. Whatever the objective of some of these mechanisms, they are great to pose next to, wear, and take pictures with. There is timed admission every 20 minutes or so, and the owner will personally introduce you to the collection before letting you walk around the two floors freely.

Designpanoptikum (€8 per person) is a private museum featuring a 'surreal collection of industrial objects' which fill a handful of rooms the ground floor venue situated along Torstraße between Rosenthaler Platz and Oranienburger Tor U stations. Entry times are somewhat organised upon the hour when the museum owner (photographer/collector/artist) gives a brief introduction to those who have arrived at that time. He then allows you to explore the rooms on your own and returns from time to time to point out a handful of particular items for you to see. Throughout, the rooms are cluttered with old industrial objects, many medical in nature, coming from hospitals from decades long past. Some items are on their own, unmodified while others have been greatly altered into interesting creations for you to view. What the museum lacks in terms of being curated, it makes up for with surreal and thought provoking creations scattered throughout. You can easily find yourself browsing, thinking and trying to figure out what the pieces are and what they mean for an hour or so. In the end, we enjoyed our visit to Designpanoptikum, finding it a genuinly unique and memorable place to visit in Berlin. Not the sort of place that will be appealing to everyone but for those who enjoy surrealism, you will likely enjoy Designpanoptikum. Note: Photography is allowed and encouraged at Designpanoptikum

A collection of various interesting industrial items. The stories behind the items and how they come together for the creation of art.

Small and interesting museum run by a talkative and knowledgeable guy. €10 euros is probably a bit expensive for what it is and it could do with a numerical guide book (guess what it is, look up it’s number to see if you are correct).

Just about the only interesting thing to do in Mitte. Very unique experience!!

More than a museum, it is an art gallery where you find objects from the past and they become a fun way to reflect on the past with the present and appreciate our everyday and technological objects.
