The Samurai Museum in Berlin was definitely one of the best museums i have ever been when it comes to quality and efficiency. Every display box has an interactive touch screen which describes and explains the object inside the box. I haven't seen that anywhere and it makes the whole experience so much better! It was very interesting and entertaining. The shop next at the entrance had many made in China things, which made me not to buy anything. You should definitely visit the museum, it's definitely worth!

Extremely exceeded our expectations. Beautiful museum with fantastic UX. You can enjoy it by reading all the text, or just by contemplating its exhibits purely as esthetically pleasing objets d'art – both options are very enjoyable. Sometimes the lights automatically shine on the exhibit you are looking at, making it easy to focus. It's full of small secrets, like the hand fans (a lovely idea, which I don't want to spoil). Every twenty minutes there was a short hologram concert, and the quality of the sound was amazing. The collection itself is rich and interesting, but not overwhelming. Oh, and the museum store is really cool! Overall, a delightful experience, our most enjoyable museum visit in Berlin. Kudos to the people who made it! Oh, and contrary to what some people wrote, the air conditioning is top notch for Berlin, it gave us very helpful respite - we were visiting during the recent heatwave.

It's a lovely place to visit in the summer! Modern and thoughtfully curated. In many ways, the museum appears to care about conservation. And, despite my lack of interest in samurai, I found the fox tests in the interaction stands entertaining! 🦊

Unbedingt ansehen!

Amazing place. It's a must-go for any fans of Japanese culture. They do a good job at explaining the evolution of the Samurai era, and have lots of great items on display (sharp katanas, beautiful armour, etc). It's not a huge place, though. You will spend anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. But it can be more, depending how deep you want to go. It's an extremely digital and interactive place. Very well taken care of.

Incredible museum- the whole experience is just mind blowing! Everything is complete perfection in there and makes this museum a real standout experience: from the animations to the way information is actually being displayed and the theater in there and the level of interactiveness is just amazing ❤️🤩

So cool!! It’s very interactive and worth exploring. It’s incredible how much is preserved for us to see and learn about now. Very thankful for the experience! You could never convince me otherwise that Ariel’s voice was locked away in that conch lol 😂

Great little museum off the beaten path. Very cool artifacts on two floors. Information is presented in English and in German. Cute little gift shop.

This place gets 8 out of 5 stars from me. Great exposition, great (mysterious) atmosphere, and they get extra points from me for the interactive stuff, like lightnig, sound, performances, touch screens, animations, etc. Especially these "UV" japanese fans on the second floor, which you have to hold in front of your eyes to be able to see the painting there. Not to forget the nice, kind and very helpful staff. Awesome place and a must when in Berlin. I personaly could stay the whole day there...

Absolutely unbelievable. Outside of the incredible and amazing items on display this may be one of the nicest most modern museums I’ve ever been to. It blended these historic and traditional Japanese items with display setups so modern it feels futuristic in a way that feels distinctly Japanese. If you’re looking at this you’re probably close enough to go, so just go, you won’t be disappointed.

I think I've never been in a museum that was so well curated like the Samurai Museum in Berlin. The collection of originals is astounding. All of the exhibits are put in place very well, there are meaningful explanations available in German and English with further reading options on-screen for context of time period and cultural context, like religion and politics of the time. All exhibits are well-lit and visible almost from all sides. There's additional content around the exhibition that keeps things entertaining not just for kids, like optional quizzes about every exhibit after reading the description, and an interactive game where you can 'hunt' for yokai and learn more about them. Interactive panels allow to highlight certain exhibits supported by multi-media installations. The museum itself has air conditioning and clean facilities which makes it an excellent choice for hot summer days. Good food options and restaurants are nearby. I'll definitely visit again!

Good museum with a lot of showpieces. We spent around 1,5 hours there. They also have guided tours, but we did not try them. Nice that museum has a lot of different digital tools, like boards with the descriptions, video screens and even digital scene with the Performances. Only one thing that was annoying was the sound from digital sources in every room. I prefer to read museum descriptions in the silence and not bored with it. Although the museum was not full these cinema-like sounds were distracting and I can not concentrate on the information about the samurais. That’s why 4*, not 5. But still want to come back and spend more time there.

Wow. Such a nice surprise, I expected a small modest collection BUT it is extremely comprehensive and gives a great idea what samurai were like. Huge collection of armor in chronological order with well written context. In addition a great interactive set-up including a huge stage with 3D No theater and drum performance. Highly recommend for visitors and locals alike

This museum is a gem! Perfectly sized, amazing presentation and art/craft so fine it touches your soul ... the skill and work put into event the smallest objects blows my mind. The small contemporary section was great as well (I now have two new artisans to follow) and even the museum shop was curated soo well. Well done!!! I will be back every time I vist Berlin!

Very nice museum. I bought the ticket online and there was no queue to enter even though I visited on Saturday. They have really nice explanations in German and English, a very interesting assortment of things happening on stage. The gift shop is small but very nice too.

This was without a doubt the most interesting and captivating museum I’ve been to. All the artefacts were displayed beautifully and authentic. You could almost smell the clear and crisp air of mount fuji. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who is mildly culturally educated and interested in Japanese craftsmanship. Be prepared for a jaw drop.

Great museum. Very interactive. The collection is more about the samurai and ruling classes. Only complaint is that the lives of general population wasn't part of the museum's collection or their focus. On the long night of museums, it was very stuffy! Otherwise perfect in every other aspect. The museum shop has some examples of good design.

Went there with my 6 year old, and we loved it! I liked the mix of classic & modern approach on how to present the collections. The digitalization is really well done, and this is great that the exhibits are only lit up when someone approaches. We spent approx. 2 hours but I could have stayed more to read everything.

The Samurai Art Museum is unique. It may be smaller than other museums but the quality of the pieces on display are outstanding. The collections hosts armours and swords that are ranked Juyo, which is the highest level. In Tokyo Japan there are but 3 original armours to view at the National Museum, in Berlin its packed full from case to case. If you want to see what is the best and leading collection of Samurai Armour on display in the world, make a trip to this museum.

The Samurai Art Museum in Berlin shows the biggest collection in Europa and one of the biggest collection of samurai arms and armour you can see worldwide. Even in Japan you can't see as many pieces of this quality at one place/museum. I never saw so many pieces of different armour, and helmet styles and such a wide range of hand guards and sword fittings and mountings. This collection is unique for it's presentation of different armour smiths, like masters of the Bamen, Unkai, Saotome, Myochin and even Nagasone school of armour making. Also, rare pieces of the time of Oda Nobunaga and even before are displayed. The big highlights of the collection here to mention are the armours of feudal lords of the Kato and Hachisuka clan, marvelous embossed iron works of the Myochin school and even of the master smith Ryo'ei, and of course not to forget to mention master blades of the 13th and 14th century as of Rai Kunitoshi, Rai Kunihiro or Bizen Kageyasu. As you can read at the museum's homepage the collection shows more than 40 armours, 100 helmets and masks, blades and several sword mountings, as well as several different sword fittings (hundreds). Thus, this collection one of the biggest range of Japanese arms of armour. So I can't understand visitors calling this museum "too small" or the entrance fee of 10 € "too expensive".

We had a wonderful time visiting this museum! It is good-sized, the exposition is carefully curated and the interactive panels display plenty of information about the objects on view, the culture and politics of the samurai. I totally recommend a visit even for those who are simply curious and don't have much knowledge about the subject.

Amazing selection of Samurai armors and other artefacts. I really enjoyed my time at the exposition. There are some interactive stations as well. And a lot of history about Japan and who ruled the country.

This is one of the coolest museums in Berlin and one of the best samurai museums in the world, seriously contender for top 5. I’ve seen most in Japan and the integration of tech and English/German on everything is really great. Never had that detail in Japan. Great for a rainy day or if you want to see some really cool examples of mastery🙌

Wow! The service and overall experience in this museum is absolutely stunning. The staff is incredibly well informed and very friendly. We spent around 4h in the museum. The technology used to explain the history and culture made this visit extremely exciting and interesting. Definitely worth a visit! Or two! Or more ..

Great museum, really interesting information, awesome things to see, entertaining and loved the interactive part of it. Would def recommend going to. Without a doubt I'd go again. I bought a normal ticket and it was €15 a bit pricey but the museum is worth it.

One of the best museums I have been to so far. The armour collection is outstanding. There's a lot to see from armours, to blades, saddles, fan... You can learn a lot and it's super interactive.

Awesome, fascinating, rich collection and helpful, friendly staff. It's somewhat smallish (think a gallery rather than museum) but totally worth it.

Small and slightly repetitive after the oompth sword, but very interactive exhibition and largest collection samurai armor I have ever seen together in a museum. Cute gift shop as well. The museum is perfect if you have two to three hours to spare!

This museum is bigger and collection is wider than Samurai museum in Osaka. My 2 year old daughter loved the kitsune (fox) projection on the walls and the interactive screens. The museum is very modern and has a rich collection.

A very modern and interactive museum with beautiful pieces of the several Samurai Periods. You can learn about everything that is exposed through some small tablets/screens all over the exhibition.

  • 2/5 Cornelius F. 1 year ago on Google
On the suitability for kids: This Museum presents a lot of bueatiful - but similar - artefacts that need a certain age to appreciate the differences. Since all of the accompanying information is digital, most of the time the kids will look at screens. A huge disappointment ist kitsune, the little fox guide. All he does is ask quiz-questions, that can only be answered with background knowledge, that is not on display. No recommendation to visit with kids aged 14 or younger.

I find this museum really cool) Everything can move (I mean there are many animations, special effects😍), there are quizzes from a cute fox at every information station! And there are also little interesting shows/movies about traditions of Samurai 8 times a day💫👍 Information in this museum is in English and German.

  • 5/5 Serena G. 1 year ago on Google
This is one of the most amazing and interesting museum I have ever been to! The staff is super friendly and welcoming, the exhibition is impressive and the way everything is done super interactive with the newest technology is just impressive! We found some digital installations which simply let our jaws drop- highly recommended! They also offer very good guided tours in English.
