One of the best castles I've ever visited in my life. Yes, it's not fully intact, because repairs have probably been done until the ancient family lived here until 1950, but it's fully open. It means you can go and discover every angle and imagine yourself back in time. The castle was a particular building built on top of a cliff, at which base there is a natural cave passing through, that originally was used as a depot. The entrance fees, 9.5 euros, are really worth it. And we had the chance to get guided at the beginning from the lady in site that gave us a good overview of the local history, the castle and its proprietors.

Prepare for a lot of steps but an enjoyable experience overall. This castle provides a lot of elements to explore and unusually eccentric sculptures spread throughout! A small guide is provided on entry in English and French respectively on each point of interest which enables you to delve deeper into the purpose of each area. Following this, each point of interest is visibly demarcated with the same description on there as the guide. The unusual aspect of this chateau is that it has a large natural cave underneath which is different to many others in the area.

It is a wonderful castle. All starts with two big parking spots - one at the bottom of the village, one up - close to the castle. Tickets are moderately expensive (€9,5 per person). It takes ca. 1 hour to go through the whole itinerary. Yet, it is another sad example of demolition to the French historical heritage by the vicious French Revolution... Views are quite spectacular both from the top as well as from the village beneath. All in all a very charming experience surrounded by beautiful French countryside.

We visited as part of a group and our guide was excellent, she was fun and happy to answer every question. There is parking by the castle or you can walk up from below. Worth a visit.

I've been talking visitors to this castle for 15 years and I still don't get bored. It's an interesting mixture of ruin and relatively modern still standing castle. Allow at least an hour, preferably two and be aware that a lot of the exterior paths of the castle are rough and uneven so care must be taken - although guardrails have been added over the years. It's up to you to look after your safety. It's owned by the town of Fumel and in the summer there's often concerts or plays in the evening.

Super nice castle. Lots of narrow stairsways and little rooms to discover. The castle is well maintained and a pleasure to roam and discover. A few nice restaurants around it for a drink or eating.

Beautiful castle to visit - much better than expected. Brilliant and helpful information on signs around the castle (in English too helpfully). Really nice views inside and out - would highly recommend. Good for 90 min visit.

Great castle to visit, the tour can take more than an hour! Well worth the climb to the panaromic roof of the Don Jon, where you'll have views over the whole valley. The village below is also extremely beautiful!

(Translated by Google) Superb castle where you can see the life and organization of medieval times. Very informative and spectacular. We like to get lost in the stairs and echevêtre levels. The Route des Bastides is a must-do and all the surroundings are magnificent. (Original) Superbe château où l'on peut se rendre compte de la vie et l'organisation de l'époque médiévale. It is better to take a guide, otherwise you will learn nothing at all !! A very big castle on top of a mountain, when you drive to this place keep your camera ready, there is a nice moment when you drive to it you see the whole castle on the mountain. There are public parking spaces down at the castle but you can drive all the way up, there is another public parking space near the entrance of the castle. But the route from down up to the castle is very nice, shops restaurants and even people that still live in the old historic buildings are on the route up. The castle is immense, allthough its partly broken down because of the french revolution. There is enough to see. The admittance is not free, but its really cool to do the tour and everything is available in different languages such as french, english, dutch and spanish. At the end of the tour you can get up to the highest tower for a real cool view of the landscape. Plus, there is a really cool crystal shop ;)

Fabulous example of a French Chateau. Get there early to get a place in the car park and then a 10 minute walk to the entrance (uphill). There is another car park right by the castle entrance too but looked smaller. The castle takes 1hr to visit and is very well maintained with a good self guided tour possible.

We had a fabulous few hours. Information leaflets are available in English. This castle has an interesting history and you can visit most areas, inside and out. Stunning views from all around but especially the top. Very friendly and helpful staff. We missed the onsite activities but I feel sure they would have been excellent based on our general experience. My son in law is a castle enthusiast, whilst my daughter and I just regular sightseers. We all recommend a visit.

It was fantastic, very friendly staff and the amount of access available was really good. As four adults and one child it was enjoyed by all!

Nice castle from XIII century which was upgraded several time. There is a parking at the top if you don't want to walk all the way up the hill. Along that trail up, you have several bars and souvenir shops. You do the tour alone, at your own pace with boards of information at several places in French and English. There are also spectacles at some dates.

Lots to see here. On Easter Monday all was quiet and we had the to ourselves (almost) initially. Sunny day, wonderful views, and lots of the castle on show. Explanations are in both French and English. Pretty village to wander through on the way up, you'll miss this if you park at the top near the entrance. There's a picnic area above the official car park (at the top), and a short walk with explanations of how the area developed, including the iron works.

This is a beautiful castle to wander round, mostly in ruins but a few finished rooms to walk round. There are lots of original features in the stonework and a lot to see. The views from the top of the tower are stunning. Lots of stairs all over the site, (not at all accessible for disabled). There's a free car park at the bottom of the village, near public loos, and another up near the entrace at the top. The walk up from the bottom is steep but has nice views and many little shops for souveiners, wine, and ice cream.

  • 4/5 Clive J. 8 months ago on Google
A steepish track if you use the bottom carpark. Lots of character but not a vast amount of info available to cover it. Great views, well kept and used a lot by the looks of the stage and seating arena. Views are amazing Definitely worth a visit, but be warned, there are plenty of steps to negotiate.

lovely castle with battlements, dungeons and suits of armour. Very well-preserved castle, spiral staircases, great view from the battlements and a good gift shop. The children could run about safely and there are tunnels, stocks in one of the dungeons and enough info in English to give you an idea about why it was built and why it's still there. Nice little shops, small restaurants and small historical museums along the walk from lower car park to the castle itself.

Brilliant place to visit, Bonaguil Castle is a must see. Incredible history the walking tour is numbered and easy to follow and allows visitors to discover all parts of the castle & history. The restoration works are a credit to the local town, volunteers and all involved. Well done & keep up the good work.
