I've been to this beach park many times, having lived in the area for two months. It's a lovely local hang out spot with morning and evening walkers, young couples looking for privacy, teenagers playing soccer in the evening, young men smoking hash, families hanging out, occasional foreigners, cows grazing, evening horse walking (some guys who live nearby take their horses there in the evenings) and a young friendly tanned colored dog (she's friendly, don't worry about her playful bites to get attention). It's a safe place, although as an female Asian foreigner, I have been harassed by the teenagers and the hash smokers a handful of times in the day and evening. But they are surprisingly silent when I walk by with a male friend or even a white female friend. They eventually got used to me and stopped the harassment. There is also a family there in the evenings whose father has trained his young daughter and son to ask foreigners for money. They left me alone after I yelled at the father one time when I witnessed him asking his daughter to ask me for money. Outside of these specific bothersome people, it's really a nice vibe with amazing sunsets. It's quieter in the mornings with just as beautiful sunrises if you walk down to the beach to catch it. You'll get genuine smiles from the people who live around there. On the weekends, there is a fun happy vibe, no harassments, families with their children just having a fun time at the beach. There is quite a bit of trash around but it's not specific to this location, a result of the country's wider problem of waste management. There are food stalls at the beginning of the marine walk - fruit juice, cut fruits, sandwiches and clementines. Sometimes you can find seasonal fruits. Late Jan to early Feb, I've seen a guy selling rambutans, and mangosteens though at steep prices since it's out of season. If you walk just a few meters towards the training hospital, there's an honest guy with a truck selling fruits most evenings. The other side of the park, past the parking lot before the bridge, there's another cut fruit stall, a short eats place (but not very good), and in January, I noticed a guy selling mangoes. There is a barely noticeable path to go from the marine walk to the main road facing shops where you can find a fruit stall and a delicious short eats place (best egg roti at 120 SLR). From the park and parking lot, Oak Ray restaurant is a few steps away for a great all you can eat lunch deal at 2500 SLR tax included. It is very peaceful at night. Barely any light, soothing sound of the waves and fireflies bringing magic to the experience. I will miss this place a lot when I leave!

This place is nicely composed with a lovely marine walkway. Parking facility is provided but limited and acceptable as there is some ground space between the road and the beach. Once you are at the farmost observation deck it creates amazing vistas. Galle Fort is visible and when it gets dark the feelings become very romantic with the breeze. Safety of this deck is very high where the floor is concrete and provided with a masonary guard wall. You may capture a beautiful memory for sure.
