This mala hotpot failed to impress with its below-average flavor and mild taste, especially when compared to other nearby steamboat places. However, the disappointing dining experience was made worse by the rude treatment of customers by the staff. Witnessing a waiter (or possibly the owner) raising his voice at a lady in a loud and hostile manner left my friends and me unsettled. I wouldn't recommend it.

Lameizi provides more than 10 soup base and 130 ingredients for customers to choose from. Spicy Steamboat 麻辣锅 and Old Duck Soup 老鸭汤 are best-sellers. If you are craving for steamboat in the middle of the night, do pay Lameizi at Nagore Road, Penang a visit.

I never been to La Mei Zi before even though I heard everyone telling me, it is good. This is my first visit and I can tell you why it is rated as one of the best steamboats in town. One downside though, it is EXPENSIVE.. for anyone who is interested, refer to Jan 2019 price below.

Air ventilation in the restaurant definitely needs improvement. Many customers came in and 'choked' by the spiciness of the boiling steamboat around. Love the fried dumplings and assorted balls. Spicy fish steamboat is a disappointment, more like fish bone soup. Fish slices looks good but not fresh. Other meats e.g. pork, beef OK. Most steamboat Ala carte items came frozen.

Reach there at 3.30am, stated 4am closed. But witness the staff fighting with customer because they wanted to close. I straight run away 😅

One of my fav hotpot restaurants in town. Some may not agree with me but trust me, they serve the best old duck soup hotpot in Penang. Price is affordable - especially if you've gone there often enough to know your way of ordering. I would recommend you to order the steamboat set (shown on photo) if you are a company of two persons. Simple condiments but on point. Try the red chilli sambal with some garlic and light soya sauce. Add some sesame oil and light soya sauce to your minced meat order (if any). Recommended to go after drinks with friends at night. To avoid the crowd, go in the early evening say 5-6pm.

May be a little bit difficult to find a parking spot depending on the time you go, but it wasn't too bad if you dont mind walking if there's no parking spot nearby. The food was great, especially the duck soup. Highly recommend that. You're able to get your own room as well if you need one. Tho, when i tried calling the waiter from the call bell that they have in the room, none came, but lucky me cos i had food arriving the next moment so i could get ahold of them.

When we reached there it was quite late. The alley was dark, it wouldn’t be easy to spot the shop. But we found it following Google Maps. It smelled slightly like ancient rustic wood and reminded me of somewhere in China. There was a small room which fitted a big round table and held fifteen of us. The room was quite dim. But it served the purpose right. We ordered online, the fresh ingredients arrived promptly for the hotpot. You can request a change of meat if you don’t really like the texture of it (before you cook of course). The staff was very friendly and helpful. They took group photo of us, came in to check on us every once in a while, helped us clear dirty dishes away, helped us refill drinks, arranged our dishes so that they’re not overwhelming. The atmosphere really reminds me a lot of China, the China I visited when I was a child, following tour groups, and they bring you to these hotpot places where you understand what those people are saying and eating, but they’re just not what you’re used to. It smells not absolutely high-end, but has a mythical historical ancient feeling to it, which I sometimes enjoy.

Ordered the lameizi set for 2-3 pax. The sets let's you try a bit of everything including some seafood. Usually served with 3 portions of carbs. Very full for 2 pax. Herbal chicken soup tasted even more flavourful at the end. Enjoyable
