The furnicular railway train can bring you up to Penang Hilltop within minutes. You are advised to get fast lane ticket especially on weekends or holidays as normal ticket usually need to queue 2-3 hours to get to the train. The view from the front is nice. If you are going up, recommended to take the lowest seat so you can see the view. But the air-conditioning inside the train could be stronger as i feel quite warm inside especially when its very crowded.

We went uphill on the morning sunrise trip. No queue, no crowd...everything was smooth. Nice view but few spots under renovation.. we plan to have our breakfast but the cafe open quite late. So decided went downhill and had our breakfast at the Sadon restaurant. Overall the trip was nice..

Renovated with much better facilities. Quite alot of people, with no social distancing enforced. Cooling place with a great view. Be prepared to spend 2-3 hours here. Check out The Habitat if you can. RM16 per person 2 way.

The funicular railway is truly a world class attraction. The station is exceptionally well planned with ample parking nearby, and served by buses and ride-hailing services. There are several reasonable cafes inside the complex, or a whole ecosystem of local foods just outside. The station is clean and feels very safe.

Came here on 14 Dec 2023 at 10am. School holidays had already started. Even though train tickets had been purchased in advance, we queued up for over 2 hours before we were able to get on the train. Not good for children, senior citizens, pregnant women, people with back problems, etc. If you really want to go to Penang Hill, I suggest you plan your trip in advance. Go during non peak times. Go early in the morning, non holidays, etc. Or pay RM80 for the VIP ticket. You'll be escorted to skip the queue completely and direct to the train. Sad how a beautiful scenic place has been ruined by commercialisation. Place is overrun by horde of humans.

Penang Hill is an amazing attraction located in Penang, Malaysia. The hill is accessible via a funicular railway and offers stunning views of the city. There are plenty of activities to do on the hill, such as hiking, exploring the rainforest, and admiring the beautiful flora and fauna. It's a great spot for a day trip or a weekend getaway, and the views are truly spectacular! Train tickets : RM12 (2way trip)

So crowded and parking was not easy to find.... No security or police to control the crowd flow.... SOP was not strict at all!!! Tourist attraction place....i hope local police and Penang gov to look and give more priority into this seriously.... Don't want another cluster spread around....

Bad experience today since train came to halt after about just 15 second departing from station.Pity all the passenger have to walk downhill on a narrow stair step especially the elderly people..Really need to buck up on the train maintenance part as I over heard the staff saying it happens quite often.. The staff was how ever very helpful during the incident..

Still a great place to visit, now well organised and clean. Tickets for the Habitat on top of hill are best purchased in the morning at the Cafe.

4 min to go up and down, very efficient funicular. Excellent spots to cool off from the city heat. Best time to go up would be around 5>6pm so you may enjoy both sight of the city day & night.

Dear Penang Hill officer It would be best if you thought about a better solution for this long queue and waiting time to board the train. We must wait approximately 60 minutes to go uphill on the regular lane. It's okay for young adults like me but not for toddlers and the elderly. A lot of toddlers start crying due to bored while waiting

Went during weekday at 11:30 AM. It was full. From buying the ticket to enter the railways it took us like 20 minutes. The ride to the top is not smooth, our coach start and stop a few times. This would be no problem if at least there is some good aircon or ventilation for a cablecar full of people. Also, some parents seems to no care if their children misbehave. Finally, we went down by foot as the waiting time was were too long (to be fair, there is the option to skip the waiting line if you pay the express line, but for me it seems way too expensive 30 RM vs 80 RM)

Beautiful place, its only cost u Rm12 for return train ticket, and rm30 for buggy sights seing tour can seat 5 adult 2children, train moved every 15minit starting at 7am and last train at 930pm… Suggest time catch train at 6pm enjoy sunsets view..

  • 1/5 taifook c. 2 years ago on Google
The company's implementation is not strict, the staff did not follow the SOP rules when arranging the number of cable cars, and there was no separation of the number of people, which caused serious crowding.

Impressed from start to finished. If you are Malaysian, the tickets are pretty reasonable. I’m so glad we did it. The service is good, well organised, toilets are immaculately clean, people were friendly, restaurants are good and it’s probably the best thing we did in Penang I have to say. Keep doing what you do guys. You rock!

Definitely a must visit place kalau datang Penang. Its a nature theme sightseeing attraction. You can park in nearby building on the left. If you're lucky there'll be parking by the roadside. The train will cost you for adult. Nice experience to have and if you quick you should grab the front seat, you'll enjoy a better view going up and down. Once you up, there are few must see attractions. Sky walk, Sky deck and The Habitat. Sky walk and Sky deck is a good looking point to feast your eye with the beautiful scenery of Penang from high up. The Habitat which cost extra RM60 will feed you with fresh oxygen provided by the trees. Even if you don't like outdoor this place is for everyone. For food, they have food court which sells enough type of food for you to eat. Price standard KL. Refreshing, scenic and calming. Penang Hill a must visit place.

This place is amazing so much to see. The only thing was it was foggy 🌫️ and light rain so the Habitat wasn’t worth the money as you couldn’t see anything. Everything else was brilliant.

The place is relatively nice and hassle-free. For a first-timer, it can be a bit challenging. The staff should be better trained.

Good place for "healing" with a breathaking views. They accept cash and QRPay at the top of Penang hill and foodcourt also available here. For women, this is just a gentle reminder. Make sure to NOT wear heels here or else you balik berkaki ayam la penat kena mendaki and turun tangga tinggi² semua. For men, nothing.

Nothing special about this tourist attraction, yes, you can see the city view of George town on top of the hill when the weather is good. The worst part is the train bringing visitors to the top of the hill. The frequency of the train shuttling is not often, so visitors have to wait a long long long time to board. And you can't see any good scenes on the train neither up or down journeys. They provide normal and fast queue lines which is discrimination. My suggestion is that you better take a cab directly to the top of the hill. My point of view is that the tree top walk is over charged at RM60 per person, so no many visitors take that trip. If they cut the price to half it would attract more visitors.

If you first time visit Penang Island. Bukit Bendera is a must visit place as it is very iconic with its city and sea view.

the view from the top of penang hill is amazing, we can see the whole city of penang... even more interesting at night.... it is recommended to buy tickets online at the express lane.

Love it! went there on weekday. But still so many tourist. Haiyaaaa.. thought it would be a adventurous experience for us which I'm expecting my son will scream excitingly. Unfortunately he did not because he's the kind of 'shy' person, will stay silent and behave in crowd. The last time I went there was in 2013 which hmm ok ok. But this year, 2022, much more exciting and lots of things upgraded. The habitat too expensive for us because it was an ad-hoc trip. So didn't plan for the budget. But will come again one day. The food court, loved it! We had ice-cream and ABC. Oh myyyy! Classic Malaysia ABC, no chocolate syrup. Sedap!! Bersih as well.

First of all, tourist almost pay 3x the ticket price compared to locals, which is disgusting. Waiting lines are damn long for going up as well as going down. Once up there are a few viewing points which you can take a look. For everything else you’ve gotta pay. Wanna visit the canopy walk? Pay some more. Visit the botanic garden? Pay some more. Hike to the highest point? Pay some more.

No social distancing when it is crowded both during queuing and in the funicular trains. Long wait during peak hours especially when there is a separate paid fast lane which is not limited to the disabled or elderly only. So you have people paying to skip the normal queue. Good money for the company but not so for everyone else when there's a long queue at the normal lane. Go earlier in the morning where the queue is shorter but social distancing remains an issue.

One of penang's top attractions that should not be missed when you're in Penang. Been here over a dozen times and never cease to amaze me every time. I could always find new things to discover up on the hill especially during nature walks. Weather is the best up here especially when it rained the night before, all misty and foggy. Either misty or clear weather it's a win-win situation. The view of the surrounding penang island from the viewpoint on a clear weather is enough reason to come up here. A walk to Kopi hutan (opens at 9am) to enjoy good coffee is another good reason. Best time to board the train is early morning, anytime before 9am to avoid long queues, and to get the sunrise rate ticket for rm3 (return ticket). Note: Sunrise rate not applicable during school holidays and long weekends.

Helpful staff. Its better to booked online ticket before come. U can proceed directly to counter to redeem physical ticket. Otherwise need to get into long queue to buy it.

Not happy with the staff while lining up to enter the funicular train. The staff kept asking us to line up closer instead of following the marking on the floor for social distancing. Someone replied we have to comply with SOP but he kept on insisting who cares.

Suggest to come during non peak hours (5pm and above. The wether so cold on evening until night. And not so crowded with people.

Great experience. A perfect place for sightseeing. The train is very clean and i think they should sanitized the train more frequently since the passenger changes every 5 minutes.

Bring my daughter here. Because of the covid, this place is jot crowded at all, unlike the usual season. But for those that bring baby in stroller, try to use the small stroller. Because this place no so stroller friendry. When you take a train, so have to fold the stroller.
