The Cheah Clan Ancestral House is one of the nicest clan house in Georgetown and restored very beautifully. It is also the oldest of the five major Hokkien clan house in Penang. It cost RM10 to enter this beautiful mansion and I would say is very much worth it. The best view of the mansion is of course from Beach Street entrance with its nicely manicured lawn.

My visit to the Cheah Kongsi Temple owned by a historical family was an unforgettable experience. The temple itself exuded an air of mystery and intrigue, with intricate carvings and beautiful artwork that told the stories of the past. What made the experience even more special was the presence of everyday historical objects like tables and tools that have been preserved and maintained over time. These objects provided a glimpse into the daily lives of the people who once inhabited the temple, adding to the authenticity of the atmosphere. As I explored the temple and its surroundings, I felt a sense of awe and wonder, knowing that I was witnessing a part of history that has been carefully preserved by the family. The attention to detail and the dedication to maintaining the authenticity of the site made the experience truly unique and memorable. Overall, visiting the old Chinese temple was an enriching experience that offered a window into the rich culture and traditions of the Chinese people. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in history and culture.

It's not free to get in here, by memory it's RM10 per person, so don't be a stinge and pay this place a visit anyway, because it's super nice inside. It is also a place to escape the hustle and bustle of Georgetown, it is an oasis. The temple, like most temples in the area is quaint and pretty, and the garden outside is a good place to sit down a while if it's not too hot. But you're in Penang so unfortunately it's always hot. There's a chamber which overlooks the garden and a string of table with mahjong pieces. If you know the rules, you probably can spend all day playing here and lose all your disposable income. You can just make fun of the tourists outside who are too stingey to pay to come in but still want to take a good photo of the temple with their expensive DSLR cameras from the fence. HAH. Losers. But then the groundskeeper uncle was probably also making fun of me because I can't speak any of the Chinese dialects he tried on me, because I look like I'm supposed to speak Chinese. Next time I'm just going to pretend I'm deaf and wave my arms in mock sign language.

a old architecture by the Cheah company. It is converted into a museum. There are many antiques inside the museum. This brings memory of the elderly back. I like the intricate design of the wood furnitures.

Worth having a look at if you've done everything else you want. Lots of info on signs explaining history of the temple and penang. I wanted to visit khoo kongsi but was always closed when I walked past. Only 10 ringgit, spent about 45 mins looking around.

There are a handful of beautifully preserved period mansions in Penang and this is an exception example. The rooms have been restored to how they would have been back in the day. Stunning mahjong playing room, incredible floors and the most ornate and beautiful roofs.

Cheah Kongsi is the first of Penang's five great Hokkien clan houses. ... Cheah Kongsi also doubles as a museum: to exhibit the temple's 183-year history, several pieces of original furniture and artefacts (well taken care ...

Despite paying a small entrance fee, you'd expect it to be a little more up kept. Some "rooms" just have a clutter of furniture on the side and it's mentioned there "how it's supposed to look back in the day". A little disappointing but the mural on the outside looked good and the temple on the 2nd floor was nice and clean

Very nicely done. Small museum, but it gives a nice impression on chinese history in penang. The building itself is also more than worthwhile. Entrance in armenian street. 10 rm pp. You get some old fashioned tickets. A nice green part in front where you can relax a little in the sun if it is nog to hot

Pretty temple with a nice little park to relax in. Not a whole lot to see otherwise.

A great piece of old Chinese architecture. The temple is well preserved and the outer facade is a sight to behold. I didn’t have time to go inside but this is on my next-trip list.

Very well reserved, displayed a lot old style gathering, meeting, life matters. You can feel the strong culture of the family tradition. Amazed by the strong culture heritage.

Came here during Potehi's Puteri Hang Lipo puppet show at its front lawn. The place's front facade is magnificent in its build and the event went well. Paid parking can be found all around, but is limited and the narrow roads around the area can be difficult to navigate for newcomers. Will update this review further once I have the chance to enter this place during non-event hours.

Cheah Kongsi is a Chinese style temple situated on Lebuh Armenian and Lebuh Pantai. It was originally established in 1810 by the Hokkien clan who mainly immigrated from the Fujian Province in China. We passed by a couple times during our recent visit and found the temple door closed on Lebuh Armenian. The much larger entrance on Lebuh Pantai was open but it appears that restoration works were taking place. The good news is that you can have a good look at the exterior of Cheah Kongsi, which is decorative and nice to have a quick look at if you enjoy seeing temples. One of the neat things you can see at Cheah Kongsi is the art mural called 'Cats & Humans Happily Living Together' You can find this large and interesting mural by entering the temple grounds from Lebuh Pantai, if the gate is open. Just look to your right and you'll see the mural on the wall. The image is a procession of Taoist deities, making their way through the streets of Penang.

It looks really lovely and grand from the outside. But compared to the level of restoration and guidance provided at other houses, mansions, and museums in Penang quite sub par.

Probably the number 2 well preserved Chinese Clan Temple (Kongsi) in Penang. The lawn in front of the clan house is beautiful. The wood carvings and tablet hall inside are not as elaborate as the more famous LST Khoo Kongsi.

Photogenic temple which costs 10 ringitt to enter. For some reason, Google states this is closed on a Saturday afternoon when I visited whilst it was open.

Costs 10RM. Very few people were there hence it was very peaceful. Got to know about the history of the Cheah clan. There was no guide though!

The temple was closed when I visited the island (not surprising, during these times) so I could only take pictures from the grounds. It was very well kept and clean. The exterior looked amazing and I can imagine the interior would be the same as well. Will definitely come back here when I can - if only just to visit and snap a few pictures inside the temple.
