The staff were friendly and nice Unfortunately the place has decline in quality over the years . I came here many years ago when they were quite new and it was amazing Many plants are either missing or so poorly maintained. The explanation plates are there but the plant that it is referring to is nowhere to be seen or somewhere buried within the ferns and other shrubs The garden overall is nice and calming. Very matured forest but strictly speaking I can’t learn anything much because I can’t find the plants that the plates are talking about. Many of the wooden walkways are old and broken. Many of them loose and slippery. There is a giant monitor lizard that roams around and I think it’s quite alarming. I understand that it is its home but at least should warn the guests of the the monitor lizard. If you really want to read and learn about plants and stuff, I don’t think this is the place. But if you want to just connect with nature and enjoy the greenery , this is a good place Super accessible by bus 101 from Penang town It drops you in front of the garden The cafe was really nice and I think it is the best part of my trip here.

If you like to explore nature but you prefer not too extreme and just mild ones.. so this is your go-to spot. Dont worry about insect bites. The staffs provide you insect repellent. The sceneries are very beautiful and you will find lots of pit stops to sit and you might even find a swing in mid. Carefuly crafted garden i would say. But some section at the top of the garden were left closed... Or more like abandoned.. I would realy suggest the garden to have a herbal tea pit stop. It would realy help..

Beautiful space created on the side of a hill with flowing stream and little paths. I think the term Spice Garden doesn't do this place justice as it is far more than this; it's a beautiful biodiverse tropical botanical garden. There is loads of information from the audio guide. With 67 audio stops I didn't have time to listen to all of them, but you can learn an enormous amount about the uses of such plants from this audio guide. I know it's done for the kids, but my only criticism is having big plastic tunnel slides at several points, it just cheapen the place and is not necessary, discordant with the beautiful natural surroundings. If people want this, go to a fun park.

Fantastic place. Upon walking through the entrance, it felt like I was entering into a secret nature garden. While the pathways are man-made and there were little informational signs and direction pointers around, yet everything else seems untouched by human hands. It was easy to feel like I have stepped into the jungle and found myself in a beautiful natural enclave of herbs, plants and flowers. There was a little pond, little meandering streams, some ducks, geese and monkeys moving around. I could have spent a longer time here, relaxing, enjoying the breeze, the sounds of insects were music to my ears, lulling me into a reflective mood.

It was a ok garden to walk . Lots of mosquitos though , they offer natural mosquito repellent but I still got like close to 15 bites . So just be prepared . I think they can put more effort at managing the garden . Eg at the poison garden, the plants behind the description behind look abandon or death. The community garden section is very messy . The free drink is cold and nice . The terrapins ponds is quite sad , the water is dirty , rubbish can be seen in the pond . I feel so bad for the terrapins . I think they really need to step up to keep the garden nice esp they charge.

Overall good for a one time visit. Paid RM28 for an adult ticket which includes a drink inside the venue and before entering they provide mosquitoes repellent spray. Have a nice stroll around the hilly garden and came across a shed with drinks. The drink which was cold lemongrass water in a dispenser were left unattended at a shed with small disposable cups provided so you can help yourself to it. There are no cellular network inside the garden so you have to connect to their wifi. Toilet are clean but there are lots of mosquitoes. Parking is free across the street. Visited on a Thursday noon at 12.10pm in July 2023.

This is a place in Penang Island any plantito or plantita should not miss. Lots of different kinds of plants can be found here. They have a gift store where you could buy stuff especially the pure vanilla extract that they process themselves, from the Vanilla vines they grow. Lovely!

Went here for a cooking class. Fantastic experience. Helpful chefs who were really great at breaking everything down and explaining it. Food was delicious. Would recommend getting tickets in advance for the cooking class We also had a guided walk around the gardens which was really insightful with Elaine as our guide. Front counter staff were friendly and helped us get a grab back to our accomodations.

I had a wonderful time at the cooking class. Our teacher Jamie, it was wonderful. She not only shared knowledge on Malaysian cuisine, but also taught as a few tricks about just cooking. She really educated us on the ingredients and why we should do things in certain ways. It was very nice to meet her. The food was prepared was delicious, and I’m already attempting to make it at home. The tour of the garden was also great, take advantage and look over the goodies in the gift shop as well. Overall I highly recommend this experience both the garden tour and the cooking class. Thank you Jamie for sharing all your knowledge!

This is a lovely little garden. For my small children it really did feel like going on an adventure. There are little slides, stepping stones, a fresh water brook, a pond with huge turtles, fish, a big goose and large lizards. A nice gift shop sells some crafty things at relatively reasonable prices. A good place to go if it is very sunny as it is all shaded. One star off because I think they could improve safety for younger children.

This place is quite huge, RM25 for adults, a lot of walking, there’s a giant swing inside, overall landscape planned very well but probably due to mco, zero maintenance, a lot of missing plants like pepper, vanilla as well, ntg much to see tbh

Love the garden. There were not many parking spaces available. We visited during school term and low season. We managed to find a space. Not sure how it is like during school holidays or weekends. The staff were friendly and helpful. They gave us all the information we need to know to make our experience a very memorable one. The only disappointment was we didn't see any monkeys, although we were assured there will be some. Anyway, we enjoyed exploring the different species of wild plants and read their benefits. If you struggle with stairs or steps this exploration can be a bit challenging for you. The path led us the way up and down on way back. Halfway through there is a stop area where you can relax and help yourself with the drink of the day . Love our experience and highly recommended.

Wonderful green place next to beach. It would cost 27 RM per adult foreigner. Children who are under the age of 4 will have a free entry. There is a tiny fish SPA area. It contains small fishes, but it is a lovely place to burn some time.

It is an amazing place to visit. They have more than 100 types of species, plants, and trees that are native to Malaysia and some plants are from overseas. The entrance fee is Rm 25 per person, children rm 15. If you want to engage a guide, it is rm 45. Spend a few hours enjoying the greenery and nature. It is a must if you are in Penang for holiday.

Overall it was okay but in my opinion the management could have make it better if they assign a guide to take the guess in the tour. People who are not physically fit shouldnt visit. Of course not suutable for kids. The gift shop is nice place to buy souvenirs.

Great day out with the family. Grab the audio tour and cruise around the park at your own leisure. Tea at the top if the hill and plenty of slides throughout the garden to keep the kids busy. Great gift shop at the end and very reasonably priced. Checkout the restaurant over the road with a great view of the ocean. Thank you spice farm we had a great time. Cheers from Australia .

Quite a good place to be introduced to tropical forest ecosystem, plants and spices. Some parts are very well done, e.g. the lotus and lily ponds, with good information. Other parts aren't as well done e.g. the spice plants. Could be better maintained. The giant Amazon lotus is no longer there. There were hardly any people during my visit. The receptionist provided mosquito repellent spray. And, i didn't feel the mosquito at all. Could well spent 2 hours, if not longer. The souvenir shop is ok.

We drove pass by this little gem and design to get in which was a good decision . If you love greenness and love walking while exploring the plants, this place is quite charming to spend an hour here, it is like Bio diverse living garden museum of the spices and tropical plants, even though some plants are not well maintained but over all we like it here, also there are spices shop and cafe inside, recommend if you have a chilling day in Penang🌳

My family and I enjoyed our time here. Reminds us of the adventures we had a year ago at the parks in Japan. I personally love the heart of the garden and we had fun swinging our hearts out at the swing nearby. There were mosquitoes but it only chose to bit my brother so I had no problems with that ehehe (they provided us with spritz of insect repellent, don't worry!). Before we went back, we went shopping at the gift shop and we got a t-shirt for free~~ Definitely will come here again in the future!

A must-visit when in Penang. Only 12 RM for adults which is reasonable for such a beautiful place.

  • 3/5 Norsa'adah A. 7 months ago on Google
Easy to find. Parking at the street. Be careful of motorists when you cross the street. We stopped by the gift shop. Did not enter the garden. Many herbs products at affordable price inside the shop. If you are a tea lovers, you can find variety of tea flavors. They also have mixed spice and herbs marinade for cooking. The staff are very helpful and offer us a cup of masala chai to taste. The tea is prepared with 8 spices including cardamom, ginger, pepper etc… so it is a bit spicy and hot. Other than that, you can also buy essential oil of your preference.

If you are looking for an introduction to world of botany, this a good place to start with. For an hour, you will be surprised by how much you would have learnt. They have a shed for spice introduction. There's even a cooking class for hands on experience with spices. And do you know that banana belongs to ginger family botanically? You will be shocked when all the spice functions are revealed.

Very pretty tropical garden with a large range of plants. Loved the poison garden, very James Bond 🤣. At points it was difficult to identify the plants signposted as they had become overgrown. Some of the paths were uneven so be careful if you are not sure footed.

Today I was at Spice Garden and I went to the Garden Community day, it was a great learning experience and teamwork with Anne, the park is very beautiful and in front of the beach. Great opportunity to be in connection with wild nature, you can also enjoy the reflexologist path 👣 interesting experience, you can meditate, do some yoga or just enjoying the relaxing sound

The Tropical Spice Garden had spices from the region and a guide explained uses by locals. Outstanding guide explained a variety of plants used at flavors and spices. Go with a small group for the best experience and be able to ask questions. The path are mostly gravel but easy to walk. There’s a shop with spices from local sources.

Went on a free and easy walk around. What we liked: - activity booklet for kids - a few slides scattered around the compound - mosquito repellent spray is available for us to use at no fee at the ticketing counter - has some interactive components (and not just plants) such as natural fish spa - mostly shady due to the trees around Considerations - many steps to climb up/down slopes, was challenging for the elderly - not many visual signs to identify the plants and explain about their uses etc. We didn’t manage to catch the guided tour, that would probably allow us to better understand the plants!

Had a great morning here. Take your time, stop, look and experience. Great coffee and food too. You can visit the cafe without entering the gardens also.

A lush hillside garden, eight acres (3.2 hectares) in size, with a huge variety of plants. I highly recommend taking the tour. The groups are typically small. Our guide was deeply knowledge about the plants and presented in entertaining way. I have an interest in spices, and he was able to explain their origins, processing methods, varieties, and history. Well worth the visit.

For those who love plants and herbs, this place is a gem! Beautiful, lush, and got a complementary tea too! The plants was divided by category but was not really detail in labelling. Anyway, i really love this place because they've got all sorts of herbs and plants and interesting merchandise.

We dropped-by enroute to Balik Pulau and back-end of island. If you love nature, a short walk in tropical setting, and learning about some local plants, this place is for you. The staff are friendly. There's limited roadside parking is the only downside although there weren't many visitors on the day of our visit (Sunday morning outside school holidays).
