G Hotel Gurney made our 3 night stay at Penang a more memorable experience! The hotel has large rooms complete with all the amenities you may need (I so love their semi hard pillows as well as the pleasant smelling toiletries!) Location wise this is a perfect 10! Right beside a thriving mall selling branded merchandise that may not be present in our market and just a stone’s throw away is the Gurney Hawker Drive if you decide to eat and mingle with the throng of locals and tourists. Very much recommended either for leisure or business travel. Well trained, courteous and hospitable staff that leaves you with the impression how warm Penangites are!

Great location to stay if you are looking at staying close by shopping malls and to get to the famous gurney drive area. All these are just walking distance away. Rooms are clean, service from the staff is prompt, accommodating, helpful and attentive. The roof top pool and bar has a good view of the hills. The ground floor has a Japanese restaurant. Staff there are very friendly. For the services & convenience provided this place is not exactly that cheap. Great place for business / leisure / family or all 3 together.

We unfortunately had to cut our stay short but thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights at the hotel. Staff are very friendly and overall the service throughout the hotel is excellent. Located right in between 2 malls it’s a great base to explore George Town and the rest of Penang. We booked the executive twin room - very modern large rooms and the access to the lounge is great value. We will be back for sure.

I called to ask about buffet lunch at their restaurant for Mother's Day. When I asked the staff who picked up the call more about any buffet lunch, I was told the buffet is "normal lah" and "nothing special lah". The view is "so so lah" and couldn't even provide more helpful information. What a joke. You would think that after the MCO, they would be more keen to have more customers. I did not expect that kind of unprofessional response from a 5 star hotel.

G hotel gurney was an amazing experience compared to G hotel kelawai, as the rooms were more spacious as well as the facilities, it was very clean and the service was very good, staff was friendly and buffet was splendid, I spent my holiday with my family during Christmas 2021 right before the current renovation, and it was still very new and fresh. Though it was kind of disappointing the executive lounge was under renovation, but the free drinks at the lobby bar was nice. Overall the place was very clean, staff were friendly, accommodations were good and the buffet was splendid, I would recommend anyone coming to Penang for business or just for a staycation to come here.

Loved the location and convenience of being next to Gurney all and paragon shopping centres. The rooms were OK, toilets and showers could have been better designed and the renovation was OK although the black paint in the shower was peeling off and there were speckles of paint on our feet when we showered. Air con was very cold at times, the temperature regulator didn't seem to have much effect. Loved the free mini bar. Executive rooms were very spacious. We would definitely come back and stay because of the convenience and location. The naming of the lounge and bar (G spot) is very tacky and lacking taste in my opinion (I wonder if they know what it means... Surely?). Very good 24 hour gym. Very good pool. Hope to be back. Free car parking for guests.

The hotel is at great location, the fo service is good. During the first day of my stay at hotel, I requested change of bed linen by putting change linen card on the bed for 3 consecutive days. But the linen is never changed. So what is the point of those cards???. Bfast is nice but the hotel looks like lack of staffs during long peak Christmas new year holiday. The foods and drinks are not refilled properly. They are left emptied because of the high guests coccupancy?

Great hotel with two shopping malls (Gurney Plaza & Gurney Paragon) right beside. My family (of 5) booked two rooms for 4 nights, and unfortunately they do not have connecting rooms. The staff at reception were friendly and even gave us ice cream! The place was clean, spacious and even had a free mini bar with refillable drinks daily. The bathroom is clean with great water pressure. Despite getting the same 2 rooms, one room (w double bed) was 1.5x bigger than the other (w 2 single beds + 1 extra bed). So I guess it depends on luck on which room you will be getting, or they upgrade our 1 room unknowingly. The air conditioning controller doesn't really work in controlling the temperature. Only the fan speed and on/off switch works. The first night was very cold, but subsequent nights were better. Overall, recommended hotel stay primarily because of the proximity and cleanliness.

Actually their services are really good all the while. Now even more cafe or restaurant opens at the side of the building, especially Coffee Beans, really variety choices to hang out. Furthermore, Gurney plaza is located beside, really good choice to stay here.

Every year G Hotel never missed to organize a Christmas Charity to the kids. This year they are giving it to the Salvation Children Home. Never knew hubby and I have been giving the gifts to the kids for almost 10 years. And all these years, I have never participate the event when they distribute the gifts to the children, last year, I happened to witness that. It was heart warming and seeing them happily unwrapped those wrapping papers. Kids ranging from 4 to 18 years old were happily receiving their presents and were so touching. Some even happily jumping and running cuz, they got what they wished. I guess as long as I am able to, I will continue to give back to the society.

A magnificent hotel conveniently located at Gurney. We had a great time here (4.11.21 - 7.11.21). The room is clean and tidy. Cleaning service was carried out at the highest level. The breakfasts were varied and delicious, there is always plenty to choose from. The staff is very hospitable and always ready to help. We lived in room 1115, sea view. It was very nice that our wish was fulfilled. Separately, I want to mention the work of Jayson from Concierge 👍 This is the highest level of hospitality when you feel like the most beloved guest. Jayson, thank you very much ! We will definitely come again and stay at G Hotel Gurney. P.S. unfortunately I don’t know the name of the receptionist, who helped us with check in and check out ❤️ Thank you for great experience!

OMG...bad service.. Even though got heads up by other friends that G Hotel service attitude was super poor... But I choose to call for inquiry too... End up totally agree with my friend comment.. Please do improve your staff service attitude.. Front desk or event service department should do their fricking job by servicing customer properly... called the reception to inquire some event stuff and the recentionist pass to the event department and the staff over there just shut off the call after answering for no reason???????? too lazy to explain?????? Are you serious? Do your fricking job man!!!

I went there on 14th April for a dinner. I have never been to that hotel before and it was my first time with family. My daughter was very hungry and all vegan shops were closed as it was near 10pm. I clearly told the waitress that we are vegans. The food had worm and when we reported to the outlet manager Shah and Guest services manager Zaki gave us a tough time. Finally I managed to get the GM’s, CEO, director secretary and the director’s email the same night and sent a complaint email. But until now none of them have answered me! The gm sent me a reply that he will investigate on this matter despite of me sending the photo of the worm. The food was for my toddler and none of them had the courtesy to ask on my baby girl’s wellbeing until now. The staffs are very incompetent and hotel cleanliness is poor. This hotel is not customer oriented at all. I don’t know how this hotel got it’s 5 star!!!!

Good view, nearby to a lot of facilities, nice and cozy place to stay, friendly staff, good breakfast. Js a bit disappointed during one night at their bar there. Did not give us clear information when we order our drinks. One staff say can drink until 12am then around 11.35pm another staff come and inform us that they are closing. Although they solve the issue in the end but Bad experience. Other than that other are very well.

Look I may be biased as I came during a lull period just before Chinese New Year 2022. On top of me securing a great nightly deal which was quite a bit lower than their regular rate, I was also upgraded to an executive suite with phenomenal views (well what’s left of the land reclamation project anyway). This display of generosity is truly something that elevates a trip and just makes someone feel so appreciated. I had never stayed here before nor was I privy to any special discounts. It was my birthday week though. The overall decor whilst starting to date is still fine by today’s 5 star standards. The openness of the G Lounge flowing into the Tree Bar is a very prime example of a hotel getting the drinking experience right. The prices of drinks were shockingly affordable and there were no further taxes nor service charges. I’d only gone for the breakfast buffet which was also tremendously good value. I noted there were promotions on the lunch and dinner buffets at the time. My only bug bear is that the swimming pool whilst lovely does not have a standout view and is surrounded by a car park and a few condos. On a weekend, you’ll be serenaded by the resident live lounge act in Tree Bar. This is a lovely experience. The gym is very well equipped and does have sea views or what’s left of it. At the time of writing, spa facilities were unavailable though they would be very welcome. The location is truly convenient if you’re after a shopping holiday. It’s not really close to the beaches nor the cultural hub of Penang but Grab does the trick. Gurney Hawker Hall is quite maligned but it does a good job of presenting you with a wide assortment of Penang favourites. Hey for the average foreigner of KLite, they won’t know any better now would they? A class act all round and it shows that you don’t have to pay for the moon to get service and value that befits a star.

My 89yo mum and I spent 5 nights in G Hotel Gurney over Xmas 2023. We were on the 11th floor with a view of the sea. The room was very nice, the location was wonderful, the car park was complimentary. We didn't get to use the beautiful facilities like the infinity pool and the gym. We also did eat at any of their in-house restaurants. The staff are very friendly and eager to help. I can't find a bad thing to say about G. I highly recommend this hotel. I will definitely stay there again. Plus my mum had the best sleep in our 2-week tour of Malaysia.

Requested for room cleaning for Room 510 but was extremely disappointed with the cleaning services. The rubbish on the floor was not cleaned as it remained the same position as we returned to the room. The robes were not folded or hung to its original position and they were left the way it was ! Whilst the location of the hotel is good and all, the cleanliness is slightly concerning for the fact we paid rm500+ a night. Further, I would presumed that even a lower grade hotel could do a better cleanliness that this hotel!!!

Hotel is good and right next to Plaza Gurney and Paragon Mall, room is clean and mini bar is complimentary; but it would be nice if they can do something about the mosquitoes at the waiting area at ground floor, where the concierge is.

Do so luck to be able to stay in this hotel. The room is very spacious and comfortable and luxurious like. The corridors of the hotel are very clean and free of clutter. It has a private pool and restaurant services... The bed is very comfortable and clean liked, and the bed of a five-star hotel is quasi-imported. The bathroom is dry and brightly lit, and the room temperature is intentionally maintaineds.Real the benchmark of star hotels

Pros: Prime location: Steps away from Gurney Plaza Mall (a big plus!), making it incredibly convenient for shopping and exploring. Ideal for families: The interconnected suite and standard room combination provided the perfect layout for my getaway with kids. They had their own space, yet we were still close by. Exemplary service: Both the on-site staff and the phone customer service agent were courteous and helpful, ensuring a smooth and pleasant experience. Impeccable maintenance and cleanliness: The hotel was exceptionally well-maintained and spotlessly clean, exceeding my expectations. Room for improvement: Buffet selection: While the food was good, the menu felt limited and somewhat reminiscent of a 3-star hotel. Offering more variety and unique options would elevate the dining experience.

The location is good. The breakfast is great. Room is big but the aircond not really cold. I like the shampoos they are providing. The service is bad. I was requesting an invoice with e-mail and 4 strict follow up call only manage to get my invoice. Perhaps the staff is lazy , but i didn't expect this especially when this is a 5 star hotel.

Front desk staffs - completely no passion for the job & very cold, will not make one feel welcome / completely no eye contact - cannot believe this kinda service and attitude for hospitality industry, absolutely a serious problem! Housekeeping - staffs are foreign workers without uniforms / very unhygienic / no sense of courtesy or manners - honestly, looks kinda unsafe (not saying that they are bad people just because they are foreigners) but they should at least received proper training and be given / equipped with a set of uniforms so that guests know they are housekeeping staffs instead of “I don’t know what” Services - take ages for Customer Service Centre to pick up phone call The only thing good at G Hotel Gurney is the location.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!...when a Hotel just benefit from it´s location in between 2 shopping Mall´s and seaside, demand´s 5star prices but deliver only less than 4 star or even worst. I stayed there last week and before the last time 10 years ago when times seems a better one for this Hotel. They advertize with "renovation" but actually only the lobby area is new, the rooms are the same and been untouched. Upon check in the first impression was "key-cards" don´t work for booked Executive floor category so new cards had to be taken. Second impression, reception told that there is no breakfast served at the Excutive lounge (but the service been advertized on the website), next impression, the large closet door came off its anchorage and almost fell on my head (due my stay of 6 night´s/7 days the door fell out twice)...followed by allowing little children into the Executive lounge during happy hours turning the supposed to be quit area into a messy chaos. (the probably only Hotel in the world allowing children below 16 or 18 into a Excutive lounge) ...followed by charging laundry even when giving only 3 pieces per day only which is a usually normal standard in every 4 and 5 star Hotel for Executive room category and than mention at check-out that this is only for long-stay (10 days +) and all ended at the check out trying to double charge the Limosine Airport-shuttle which has been paid already and after a very intensive "discussion" and showing proof by reciept that it has been charged already the reception staff not even apologize for their mistake, releasing me out of the situation wihout even saying goodbye ...horrible experience.

The Room is small but has a mini bar with some free snacks 😋. The service is quite good but the car park is soooooooo small. The buffet is not too much of an option (Not like other 5 star hotel in Penang but G Hotel near to Gurney Plaza & Paragon, U can just walk to have lunch or dinner (No need to eat in the hotel). They have a big ballroom but the food is so so only, not too nice 🙂

  • 3/5 D L. 10 months ago on Google
Front desk staff do their jobs but service is lukewarm at best. The bell boys at the front door are quite helpful on the other hand. Rooms are ok but starting to show their age... housekeeping shows a lack of detail. E.g.I have a towel from the pool laying on the bathroom floor for 5 nights even though housekeeping comes 2x a day. Shower is cold for the last 2 days. I spoke to the front desk, got a cold response that they will send an engineer (no apology or showing any concern). It was still cold after the 2 mins check by the engineer so in the end I showered in the bathtub... The hotel is marketed as a 5 star hotel but I think they will lose a star very soon...

First time I stayed in a hotel where they did not release the deposit. I already went back to my home country when I realized the deposit had not been released. Emailed many times and they asked me to check with the bank. Checked with the bank and no instruction from the hotel. It’s been close to 2 months since my stay and the hotel was not helpful and very ignorant about this issue, until now I haven’t received my deposit. Disappointing, not professional, stay there at your own risk.

Not a hotel guest. Just dropped in for a cocktail and snack. Cocktails were good, can't say the same about the pizza unfortunately. The cheese was fine but the crackers were not crunchy and stale. Service was fine. Lovely piped music and nice view overlooking Gurney drive.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at G Hotel Gurney, and it was an overall enjoyable experience. The provided room was extremely spacious and well-kept, with a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The hotel was immaculately clean, and I was impressed with the attention to detail in maintaining a pristine environment. This hotel's prime location, conveniently located near various malls and a bustling food street, is one of its standout features. This made it incredibly easy for me to visit local attractions and indulge in delectable culinary experiences. I was very impressed by the area's accessibility and vibrancy. The hotel staff was friendly and approachable, and they were always willing to help with any questions or requests. Their friendly service enhanced my stay and made me feel welcome at G Hotel Gurney. Their genuine concern and attention to detail left an indelible impression on me. While my overall experience was positive, there were a couple of minor drawbacks. The lounge access provided was somewhat limited, which was a letdown. More opportunities to relax and unwind in a dedicated lounge area would have been ideal. Furthermore, the breakfast area had a slow turnover, resulting in longer wait times. Although the breakfast options were adequate, the slow pace had an impact on the overall dining experience. Despite these minor issues, I would strongly recommend G Hotel Gurney for its spacious rooms, cleanliness, convenient location near malls and food street, and outstanding staff friendliness. It is an excellent choice for travelers looking for comfort and convenience in their lodging.

Overall it was an okay 2 night stay. The executive room with bathtub was spacious but too empty for such a big room. The whole ambience throughout the hotel is lacking in character. The loud piped in music obviously did not help. Not sure whether it deserved a 4 star. For the price we paid, certainly not worth it.

Here at this time writing, the buffet breakfast if you walk in is RM30 per person. This is the place if u want a very good place, stylish and great breakfast hotel in Georgetown area. Dont hurry having your breakfast just chill and relax. With this 5 star hotel, the price is very affordable. A lot of varieties like porridge, yogurt, pastries, egg counter, wafel, nasi lemak, fried mee, char kuey tiaw, coffee tea, sausages, baked beans, the chill juices, oat and many more. The sambal Nasi Lemak is very delicious and spicy. I have no problem with the spicy which its add the wow factor to the Nasi Lemak. The ambience very good. The service was great and the staff meet the expected level. Will come again here for breakfast if coming to Penang again. You should try !

I stayed in G Hotel Gurney for >2 months (solo business trip). The room was thoroughly cleaned daily, the room configuration enabled me to do work-from-home (hotel) for extended period of time. Despite the COVID restrictions, the staff spared no effort to make me feel at home and work comfortably. The hotel has strict COVID protocol, to ensure the guests and staff are shielded appropriately. The promenade in-front of the hotel is great for my daily runs. There are two big shopping malls besides the hotel that me to purchase things I needed for my extended stay. There are also lots of F&B options avail. Will return to G Hotel for my next business trip to Penang.

Stayed for work trip during EMCO. Service was impeccable, quick and extremely friendly. Kudos to the team for maintaining a professional front with few guests staying and business was obviously impacted. I was greeted with a warm smile and they know you by name, so exemplary service with good personal touch. Check-in was seamless. I was upgraded to executive room for my 4D3N stay, and the room was clean and tidy. Minibar was free as usual, and being replenished daily. Had to get room service for dinner on my arrival, restaurants closes at 8pm but the in-house restaurant serves till 10pm. The cheeseburger was good. And all dine in during EMCO has 50% discount. Hope to see the hotel outlast MCO and bounce back, and hope to be back.

I am a huge fans on G hotel.. i stayed both G Gurney and G Kelawai before. Last Saturday, i have stayed at G Gurney (after renovation).. there are a few things i want to feedback which is the carpark which located next to Gurney Plaza is quite dark. The facilities is not well maintain.. it is very dangerous for girls or single to walk to get their car. 2ndly, I was staying at the executive level. The bathroom temperature is bad. I try to adjust the right temperature but the water keep on cold hot cold hot which i end up taking cold water instead. The bathtub tap is not well maintained. The water burst out from the tap and flow all over to the floor .. I end up didn't use it. The reception is located in Level 3 but when i reached G Level, the staff didn't even tell me that it has moved to level 3 .. when i walk back and ask, then only he says it is in level 3.. Breakfast at Cafe 168 is another problem.. lack of staff and the refill is very slow. Coffee machine is out of milk, hot water is not refill Other than that .. i have no other complain. The room service did a very good job.. i asked for additional water.. within 5 mins is delivered to me.. i requested for a doctor, instantly they send a doctor for me.. and i requested for late check out due to i really need some rest .. they allow me. The buffet dinner in cafe 168 is good !

Am not sure what happened but it seems that the service crew has lost their passion to work. The “welcome” we received was pretty cold. Staff was generally sullen and unfriendly (even those we spoke to on the phone prior to the visit). In our stay, we only met one or two decent, friendly staff. Things that went wrong: 1. Ac in the room was hot. It was rectified after a call to maintenance- 2 follow ups before they arrived. 2. Coffee machine was not working. After 3 changes, it still did not work. The capsules which they used to test the machine was not replaced too. 3. Key card continuously failed (couldn’t gain entry to room/ lift to the floor). This was rather irritating as we had to keep going to the reception to reset. 4. Breakfast was far from good. The selections offered were great - unfortunately the taste was not. Service was also lacking there. 5. Parking area was messy and full of reno materials. We also had the additional “pleasure” of hearing the renovations works going on - though to be fair it was only at certain times throughout the day. 5. The room is designed for solo travelers. Not for families. Lacking in hooks. Things that went right: 1. The pool and giant floaty pillows were nice. 2. The welcome ice cream had googly chocolate eyes and it was cute. 3. The free mini bar is always a nice touch. 4. The room was large and the bathroom water pressure from the shower was great. I hope they improve soon. It was a far cry from the last time I stayed here. Even G Kelawai, when we stayed roughly a year ago, had an overall better feel and service.

G HOTEL after renovation was actually same as b4. The rooms only carpet change. Rest of the fixtures were the same old ones. The Ex. lounge was not ready and check in was on level 3 n the entrance to the hotel was by the right hand side of the main entrance most unfriendly welcome to the hotel. Staff were like over worked and there was a shortage of staff. Am disappointed by this visit n will be looking out for another hotel to stay during my next visit. Pity this hotel was my fav go to hotel b4. Not a family friendly hotel anymore.
