Who would’ve thought? This place is a hidden gem and highly recommended if you want to experience authentic nyonya cuisine. Definitely a must visit if you are planning to bring a large group. Why? Because you want to try all dishes. While it may seem to have been lesser dishes on the menu, but their fish is spectacular. We even met the one and only owner, Richard, a lovely and pleasant guy. Having heard his story from being a designer and pivoting to a chef, it goes to say “if you can dream it, you can achieve it”. Thanks from Australia 🇦🇺

We ordered some dishes for sharing. Best dish of the meal was undoubtedly the chicken rendang! So rich, flavourful and soft! The rest of the dishes were pretty average. What is interesting is that they had four types of rice to choose from and we went with butterfly pea and turmeric rice, so colorful! The decoration of the resturant definitely enhances the overall dining experience too. Overall bill came up to about RM220 for 4 pax.

Had lunch with my family at this restaurant. Saw it being recommended by one of the famous "Ah Xian" , therefore decided to give it a try. As it was Sunday, the slots are fully booked and we were lucky to have booked the 1.30pm slot. Its quite easy to find and you can park and the roadside and take a small walk to reach the restaurant. The atmosphere is very Nyonya authentic. With nyonya arts and crafts decorating it's walls and a traditional woodcraft door . It's truly a place full of the baba nyonya tradition. The service was excellent and the waiters attended quite fast and was very polite to our requests. There are even rooms where its seperated for more privacy but that has to be prebooked in advance. The chicken pongteh is quite unique with the taste of soy bean paste and spices. The chicken meat is tender and its accompanied with soft mushy potatoes. The asam prawn 🦐 does seem to be a bit pricy with RM40+ for 5 shrimp. Would 😁 opt for other options. The lemongrass fried chicken is really delicious with bits of lemongrass still visible on its crunchy crust. The portions are just quite right for an average family and most dishes ranging from RM30-40. The Laksa is totally different from the Asam version 🍜 we have at local stalls and it has a yellow soup based with spices and leaves for its distinguish aroma. The jicama fries cuttlefish will be a family favourite and it has quite a nice taste despite its slightly small portion. The acard fish is more unique and its recommend to try by locals and tourists. It's like pickled fish in vinegar and sugar with tumeric and it has a sweet and sour taste. This dish is served in just room temperature not hot, so for those wanting to try out this dish, this is just a small note to remember. Overall quite a great restaurant and one of the exquisite nyonya restaurants in Georgetown, Penang.

Giving five stars as the overall experience was great. Brought my mom here and we ordered a few dishes, the portions are adequate for two and the taste is good too. Other than that, you can get some instagrammable shots here as the decorations and surrounding are painted well.

Had dinner with a group of friends. Depending on when you arrive, parking may be an issue. Lane is narrow for parking Coming to the food. We ordered several dishes, mostly from their recommendations. Quite standard fare but one of the better nyonya good in Penang. It's not the best i have tasted but it's one of the better ones in Penang. The decor is standard and when it's full conversation can be noisy but that's the Hallmark of a good makan place

Beautiful restaurant & great ambience but some of the food is just average. If you are looking for a Nyonya restaurant with nice ambiance, Richard Rivalee Nyonya Cuisine should be up on that list of choice for you. Worth to try.

Nice ambience, service is friendly. Food is average, nothing special though everyone taste bud is different. What was really not nice was the fish. It had a fishy taste and we found fish scales in it. Feedback was given to the service staff whom appears to take it as nothing. We choose not to request for a change of dish since we were just here for a leisure trip. When my friend repeated her feedback, the service staff asked her to inform the lady at the cashier which my friend did. Though the lady at the cashier did apologize for the fish, the whole dining experience was ruined. Will we come back again for next trip? I doubt so as there are much better nonya restaurants in Penang.

Great decor in the restaurant and good food selection. Out of the items we ordered, their perut ikan and otak otak stands out, as well as the nasi ulam. The perut ikan contains a healthy amount of fish stomach, no skimping on the main ingredient. The otak otak has good texture and the fragrance of the herbs and spices came through nicely. Nasi ulam is fresh and tasty. The lone item that was meh was the assam shrimp. I wished it had a stronger tamarind flavor. Overall good experience with the food and environment.

Step into a heritage house and immerse yourself with decadent heavy Nyonya heritage designs fill with old furniture, antiques, vintage cookeries and traditional Nyonya clothes. This establishment is a good place to take pictures and very Instagram-able. The establishment serve variety Nyonya cuisine and many people praised for their authentic Nyonya cuisine. Even the owner of the establishment get involve in the cooking to ensure the quality of the food. The price however is very expansive but the quality of the food is worth to pay. Parking is limited during peak hour. Due to popularity, it is best to make reservation first in order to secure a table.

    - Service was attentive and spot on in her recommendation - Mason liked it. - Nyonya Curry Chicken was juicy, tender and delicious - Stir Fry Spinach was crispy and not mushy. - Will come back again with my parents to try other things in the menu

If nostalgic is what you’re looking for then recommended to try this. Food is good but could be better. The taste is a bit bland for me. For peranakan food the flavor should’ve been distinct or rather stronger. But I guess it’s to suit the taste buds of people nowadays that wants it to be healthier or tourists.

An impromptu visit which almost ended up getting no table as it was full house but the service crew was nice to give a table, recommended to make reservations prior visit to avoid disappointment. A heritage restaurant with tint of peranakan decorative. The food was great to our liking especially the nonya curry stingray, it taste like Assam and appetizing.

Would actually rate this place 7/10! Expectations were raised super high from the high ratings but there were some misses. The service of the staff were pretty bad in general. We actually also ordered an eggplant dish other than those mentioned below and the waiter insisted we didn’t order. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We saw it being served to other table and it was rejected also lol. Bill came up to RM313 for 8pax. Food reviews as below: Butterfly Pea Flower Drink w Honey - This was okay but they weren’t consistent w their drinks because my friend one was quite cough-syrup tasting. Butterfly Pea Flower Rice - Tasted like normal rice. Prawn Fritter - This was not bad, tasted like kakiage! The capsicum was thinly sliced so it was pretty nice too. French Bean w Garlic - This is such a simple dish but well executed. I think it’s one of my favourite dishes here. Five Spiced Chicken Loh Bak - I realise this restaurant doesn’t sell pork. Anyway I found this alright only. The others thought it’s not bad. Chicken Feet Vinegar - Did not try since I don’t eat chicken feet. Egg was like any other egg? Lol. Chicken Ponteh - This is my favourite! I like the saltiness of the sauce and the mushiness of the potatoes. The chicken was nice too. Sour & Spicy Stew Fish (Asam Pedas) - So many bones and then the fish don’t feel fresh D: Sambal Petai w Prawn - Super duper spicy but not bad. Wish it was saltier. Fu Yong Omelette - Good. Sago Pudding w Melaka Sugar - They remind me of ondeh ondeh except the fillings is served separately LOL. Not bad! Bubur Cha Cha - Didn’t enjoy this, I found it a little too savoury?? Black Glutinous Rice Dessert - Not too bad and served hot.

Great decor, authentic Nyonya decor. The purut ikan, otak2 and lemon grass fried chicken were delicious. Owner Richard is a joy to converse with! Would have given a 5 for the food if not for the sweetened asam curry ikan.

Every nyonya restaurant has it own receipe and taste differently. Pretty good food here and the atmosphere here definitely a big plus point. Friendly service here. Advice to book before, quite busy business. Love their desserts!

The environment feel like go into some nyoya house, got big table and suggest to make reservations. There are few sets meal that is suitable for 1 pax. I ordered sweet sauce chicken set, the sauce is tasty although the chicken texture maybe someone will feel a bit dry, but overall still very delicious. The five spiced chicken loh bak also taste good. Price are medium to high, still acceptable with the meal and environment.

Exquisite experience. A real feast for the eyes and taste buds. Amazing decor and full of artsy stuff. Including a beautiful koi pond in the airwell area. Everything that was served, kept close to the original recipes. Lor bak, Bubur cha cha, Pulut hitam, Jiu Hu Char, Stuffed fish with rempah, etc. What could have been improved was surprisingly the acar. It didn't stand out like the other dishes. Maybe expectations were raised, since it's Richard Rivalee !. 😅

Lovely design and friendly staff/owner. The food is super. A little pity as I manage to arrive when they are about to close 9PM-ish, but still enjoyed the food here. Definitely go back on my next Penang trip.

A treat if you have visitors from KL willing to splash out on Penang version of Nyonya food, a level down from Malaccan cuisine. My friend enjoyed the petai prawns and portions were surprisingly larger than expected. Staff morale seems to be low and the typical Peranakan fussiness was in the air.

Nice atmosphere but the nyonya cuisine definitely not up to my expectation, there is a better one across the street. Ordered a black sweet vinegar pork trotter, a pork stomach soup, a simple steam ladyfinger and a sago pudding with gula melaka. The pork trotter and sago pudding are fine, but the ladyfinger is just too aged and hard to eat, not to mention the soup is too spicy and saturated with pepper.. Overall no complain on the price, but quality of foods still have more to be improved.

Brought my family here this time and they don’t like it so much. Assam prawn and perut ikan don’t taste tat good. We love the ginger brown sugar. The lemongrass fried chicken is good. Sambal stuffed fish also not bad. This place really have parking problem. Hope owner will look into their quality of food.

Very good nyonya food. Had their lunch sets and everything very well made. It was full even on a Monday lunch, so important to make a reservation. They are also shorthanded, so we waited more than 30 mins for set lunch

Nice environment and friendly staffs. Good place for friends and family member for delicious Nyonya food and pleasant dinner. Parking place a bit difficult to locate. Price reasonable for Penang Nyonya food ( slightly over if compare with local chu cha, but different comparisons).

Richard Rivalee Nyonya Cuisine a hidden Nyonya restaurant in Jalan Burma. The design of the hall is very particular; the Nyonya atmosphere is very strong. Wooden furniture, antiques, tablecloths, curtains, furnishings, etc. are all closely related to the Baba Nyonya culture. The restaurant's menu features a range of Nyonya dishes: Fried Squid with Shredded Sage, Assam Shrimp, Assam Fish, Pork Knuckle Vinegar, Nyonya Laksa, Stinky Beans Fried Sampai, etc. Wonderful interior design ,food and drinks is superb and best of the best, definitely worth every ringgit you pay for what you order. Great portions as well . Address: 42, Lorong Bangkok, George Town, 10350 George Town, Pulau Pinang Opening Hours: 11.30am - 3pm 6pm - 10pm (Closed on Tuesday) Contact number: 042274888

Must make reservation before coming here! My mom and I shared 6 dishes between the two of us because the food was just that appetising! Favourites were the Assam prawns and the nasi Ulam. The owner is a designer too and his prowess shows- from the traditional designs and wooden textures at the shop front, to the small pond in the main dining hall, to the private rooms that are thoughtfully adorned with Knick knacks. Staff here showed warm and friendly Malaysian hospitality too. Come with your friends and family!

Another 5 star restaurant in penang. Super attentive staffs even though they are super busy. The food is really really good, the juhuchar, Assam prawn and rendang chicken is a must have. Unfortunately there is only 2 of us, will come next time to try their other signature dishes. Must rsvp before you come. Very pleasant and comfortable dining experience. Kudos to the team

Nice environment but the staff are not good in communication. Do not know how to explain dishes in English or Malay. Very difficult to communicate and order food. We ordered asam pedas but the stingray finished. Supposedly should tell us they are changing dish but the staff said change to different fish. We assume Asam pedas with Pomfret but served curry fish and it was cold and not nice to taste.. However, the ulam rice, steam okra and brinjal stir fry was very tasty.
