During my recent trip to George Town, I had breakfast at Kong Thai Lai Coffee Shop. While the food and coffee were decent, I wouldn't say they were exceptional. The breakfast was budget-friendly, which was a plus. However, the taste of the food was just average. It was satisfying enough to fill me up, but I didn't find myself craving more. Despite the average quality of the food and coffee, I did appreciate the quaint atmosphere of the coffee shop. It had an old-world charm that added to the overall experience.

This kopitiam is on the recommended lists of several foodie socmed platforms. Hor ka sai was thick 👍🏻. However, the soft boiled eggs turned out to be hard boiled egg yolks. Kaya butter toast was ok, you can opt for steamed bread version also. Crew recommended char koay teow which was average, a little lacking on wok hei, though they scored brownie points for bigger than average prawns. Was told that the CKT here does not have chinese sausage. Another famous kopitiam, Bee Wah, is just a few doors away.

Nice ambient of old vibe kopitiam, situated in a quite backstreet. Went there on a Thursday, few old timers were having conversation, they were loud but I like it. The kopi was so so, was a little to sweet, did not have the usual hainan bitter and sour. I sensed a vibe of nutmeg in it. Roti goyang was good, roti kawin was OK. They will be moving to a new location

Definitely should go. Crunchy toast. The spread of 'kaya' and butter not too much and it's not too sweet. Personal preference, the toast is a bit too thick for me. Other than that, everything else is great. Kopi O is without sugar and you get to add your own amount of sugar. I believe other drinks as well. All without sugar.

The signature menu of the shop is the coffee and toast. I tried the roti kahwin and roti goyang, both tasted really good. The coffee is thick and you may also request for kopi "kaw" if you preferred strong coffee. Besides, there's nasi lemak served on every table in individual packing, you may take it if u want to try and it is nice as well. However, we didn't get to try the signature Char Kuay Teow because we arrived too early that the stall is not open yet. Price is affordable and the place is clean.

This place served very nice local coffee aka "Kopi O". It is a must if you visit this shop. They also have bread toast and half boiled eggs. This place is very relaxing. This place usually crowded with locals and travellers during breakfast. Fried Koay Teow here also not bad. The boss is very friendly and helpful.

Good old toast and eggs! Bread was perfectly toasted and fragrant but margerine lacks a little. Drinks were diluted so be sure to ask for kopi/ teh to be gao.

Best local coffee in town. Visit this coffee shop twice during my trip in Penang. Service is good and fast, staff very friendly. The coffee, the toast and the half boiled eggs are perfectly done. A very good place to relax after long walk in the surrounding.

Well i guess different people has different taste and opinion but im not gona contribute to an overrated place just because its viralled and yes 100years old hidden kopitiam. I agree with the previous comment. The toast is dry like sandpaper haha. You can challenge me on this too. Ive had better. Maybe its not with eggs. Idk. Kopi was so so. Ckt no wokhey. Ive tasted better from roadside uncle in penang. And trust me im here for almost a week. Im a CKT connoisseur. So this place got my 3* worth

The fried rice noodles is hands down Oh My天so good! Coffee is good too. Limited choice of food unlike many other typical kopitiam but indulge yourself in the comfort food nevertheless, eat the kaya toast and eggs too.

(Translated by Google) The century-old tea house, Come and enjoy Hainan coffee. Recommend charcoal toast, The traditional approach is very particular, Roasted crispy and soft; Soft-boiled egg whites are tender and tender, The egg yolk cream is very smooth, Can be called a standard. Disappointed ice coffee milk tea, Adding ice cubes tastes very light, Plastic cups are very deductible, Although paper straws are environmentally friendly, But it is super difficult to suck after softening. It is recommended to order hot drinks, Using traditional coffee cups, It retains flavor. The nasi lemak is spicy and delicious, Fried Kway Teow looks ordinary.

Don’t only go to those breakfast shop which was so famous and always crowded and hard to secure a seat when you have such a hidden breakfast shop which offer the same option and quality. Coffee and bread was good but most recommend is the fried rice, it was so good!

This Kopi Tiam has been around for a long, long time. It has relocated to the present premise at Leith Street from Hutton Lane. It used to be a late philantrophist's favourite breakfast place every morning. This is a typical Kopi Tiam serving toasted bread with good coffee. It is still drawing the crowd as an iconic Kopi Tiam. So tag someone to have good toasted bread and coffee. Bon Appetit.

We went to the other famous road side coffee shop at Lebuh Campbell (you know which kopitiam I was talking about) it was too crowded. So I decided to give this a try. It’s not packed and the food is as comparable as the other famous ones. I’d highly recommended to come here for stress free local kopitiam experience. Worth to mention that the shop workers here is much friendlier!

The coffee was not bad but the teh tarik (milk tea) was a disappointment. The roti kaya butter was great. Nasi lemak was a surprised with choices like prawn and egg. Fried rice slightly above average price but quite good home cook taste by the stall owner auntie.

Clean and spacious kopitiam that served some “cooked foods”, breakfast set and drinks. Basically I cant find any wow factor in the noodles neither the toast. The CKT is lacking of “wok hei”and much flavour. Edible cooked foods. The toast bread is dry and plain cold when served to us. Kudos points: The half-boiled eggs done nicely. The coffee is rich and aromatic. The place is comfortable, airy and the owner tried to attend and take order from diners as fast as he could. Ps* the place mainly suitable for 2-4pax sitting.

Got recommended to try Kong Thai Lai instead of waiting out the queue for Toh Soon Cafe. Have to say that it was such a great decision because I enjoyed this iced coffee so much more! The signature Roti Kahwin was really fluffy and they also serve other local dishes if you want something more substantial. Hope to revisit sometime!

A very old school type of coffeeshop. According to the auntie they have moved here from another location for 6mths already. Ordered the toast with Butter and Kaya and toast with butter and half boil eggs on top. The toast are very well done, very crispy as though it's deep fried snack but it's not. Hainan coffee is a must to order, very fragrant. Service is 10/10, the auntie speaks very good english and their menu comes in english as well. There is option for CKT as well but didnt try hence can't comment on the taste. Come support these traditional coffesshops that's part of our culture.

Everything is tasty here, the fried kuey teow, the roti. As for the coffee, not as good as our Ipoh white coffee la 😂😂😂 but still a very good coffee ❤️ two sets of roti& 1 iced coffee at only RM7.00++ , can say that the price is very affordable too. Wanted to comeback here for breakfast on our 2nd day but it's closed on Sunday. Too bad. Will come again next time!

Local hai nan coffee, taste not as good as others. Toast bread are crunchy outside but inside butter and kaya not surprise.

The butter taste flavourful. Toasted bread is a bit tough and dry. Overall….can visit if u plan this place along the way of your itinerary. I saw patrons started to order the CKT when the CKT aunty arrived at her stall. I did not order the CKT. I did not observe WOW expression when they eat the noodles. The food shop assistant is friendly and well spoken in English. But the temperature of the food shop is warm even the weather is cloudy.

First time trying roti goyang (egg on the bread) but there’s nothing to shout about. I think it’s a personal preference to get the egg and bread separated, just so my bread can remain crispier for a longer time. Got a kopi bing also but quite standard too.

Craving for local coffee and toast so i visited kong thai lai coffee shop to had their coffee and ordered 1 set of toast. Coffee not bad but the toast a bit thick for me but it consider quite crunchy. Depends if you like the thickness of the bread. The half boil egg really good. Separately i have ordered char kuey teow, but nothing to shout about it but the prawn is fresh. So overall is not bad but cleanliness definitely better than toh son cafe.

After read all the reviews, I personally find it is overrated. Coffee is just typical coffee not the hainanese type. Roti is below my expectation, too blend too thick. Char kuey tiaw was so-so.

Kopi & goyang so so🙈 But Kudos to the aunty that did the fried kuey tiao, don’t know how she do it, but 1st time I had a fried Kuey Tiao that’s total no oily feel in my mouth👍👍👍 😬Maybe to others this might not give them the “wok hey” taste they want.

It's a disappointment to how the taste is been out. Went on 1 Jan 2021 for breakfast. Not many crowd when we arrived. Ordered Kopi Peng and Kopi O Ais, coffee aroma is just not there and the drinks is not "Kao" The kaya toast bread was normal. Maybe should order a hot coffee The only good thing is the Char Koay Teow, tasty for both spicy and non spicy.

I am originally from China and have been in Singapore for 10+ years. This is the best Kaya toast I have ever had in this zone! Toast inside very crispy but outside not burnt black. Plus the homemade Kaya Jam having the authentic flavor with no “artificial and strong” sweetness at all. It is the amazing combination! Other local delights like Char Kuey Teow, fried noodle/rice ... all of good quality and at reasonable price. Highly recommend if you are looking for a breakfast/brunch place in George Town of Penang.

A great place to start your day in Penang. Aromatic local coffee made by owner (blessed), bread is perfectly toast, half boiled eggs is well made, tiny nasi lemak is delicious too. If you still can indulge more, please try the char kwe teow...taste awesome even without pork and cockles. You will accompany by the locals senior if you come early, listen to the current affairs is very therapeutic....scenes like this will not last long.

(Translated by Google) tasty . The bread is crispy and hot, and the egg is really delicious. In addition, I also ordered fried rice, it should be good coffee, but unfortunately we don't drink coffee, there is no point. Service attitude is very good, it should be the boss wife can speak fluent Cantonese and talked with us a few words. You don't have to wait for it. If you want to have a good breakfast, you can come here.
