04/09, changing my review as the kopitiam is not 'worthy' of praise. A quaint little shop at the corner of Jalan Siam. Often packed and not enough tables going around during peak hours. The shoplot was rather old and shabby. The alleyways were just cramped with stalls and were inaccessible. I do wonder if hygiene is gonna be a problem in the future. As they do their cooking, washing all by the side of the roads. Rather a sore sight for eyes. Starting the day with a cup of coffee after a long wait to get a table and finally being able to sit down feels great. But the shop is way to small and there's just no ventilation, making it stuffy, as foods were cooking right besides, fumes and unwanted smoke do fill up the space making it uncomfortable. Wan Than Mee vendor was just slow and would rather spend her time talking and bitching instead of serving noodles. The order took forever, even after having two cups of coffee, the order was nowhere to be seen. Turns out she has totally forgotten about it. And when you want to cancel the order she claimed that it is done and wants you to pay up as it is only RM5? It isn't about the price, we can pay, we can afford, it's the matter of principle as you were much more occupied with gossiping instead of preparing the meal. As soon as we got up to ask about the order, some uneducated old lady just sat down even without asking. Best part is there was just other tables which she can intrude instead of ours, slamming her heavy bag and claiming the table is hers. Even the worthless cafe owner couldn't do a thing and just let it be. We decided to leave as noodles were never coming and paid the 'begger' nevertheless. Toast bread was just sad. Unevenly done and just filled with pores. I would hardly even call that bread. The margarine tasted weird, with a skanky aftertaste. Kaya was just lacking any aroma or richness. Even pre packaged kaya tasted better. Not worth coming as there are better places with better tasting food and services.

The original Char Koay Teow uncle has move down the street but the new Char Koay Teow is doing a pretty good job replacing him. Although I would say his Char Koay Teow is not as good as the previous one but I would still give him an A for his Char Koay Teow and taking in the consideration that its cheaper and usually no queue - I will pick this over the original stall (average wait probably 1.5 to 2 hours). Highly recommended - give it a try

Unassuming local corner coffeeshop with great char koay teow. Add the duck egg! You won’t regret it. Savoury, creamy, umami, with just the right amount of bite. Just 7rm, comes with 2 plump prawns. 🏆 we also tried the wonton mee which is also well worth the yummy space with saucy springy noodles 😋

Came from city for charcoal kway tiao but it was closed. (Yes, closed though indicated OPEN on Google, obvious the owner did not bother to update) Luckily, we are blessed with good local food from this coffeeshop. Repeated all the food and still longing for more.

Probably best to order no spicy. The spiciness took away the actual flavour of the dish... Overall still better than those in KL Restaurant cleaniness is great. Drink are cheap too Welcome to Penang

Seng Ghee Char Kuay Teow at this Coffee Shop was good. At RM6 a pop was good value. Tasty and cooked in small portions the Wok Hei was evident. The "Fook Kwai noodles" or "Lum Meen" from another vendor was also tasty and worked well with the chilli paste provided. Exceeded expectations. Finally Pork Ball and Meat soup was a winner. Too much food to try the yam rice but maybe next visit. The salted veg added to the soup gave it the right kick.

Delicious Nyonya Lam Mee with sambal. Broth flavoured by pork, prawns and flower crab without added MSG.

Few steps later you can find a Char Koay Teow better than the overrated Siam Road Char Koay Teow. Can try the Loh Mai Kai and Siew Mai !

Seng chee char kuey teow here as alternative to famous siam road char kuey teow down the road who I always can’t catch their opening time. There is also a nyonya lum mee stall, something different not tried elsewhere before. The most surprising order was the salted vege tofu pork soup. It was gooddd.

Had one of their char kway teow. No complaints as its food is delicious and is very visible by the streets. For those driving, yiu may park beside the building or opposite.

Char Kuey Teow in here is superb! Definitely worth of trying it if you are traveling on Penang island. Words can't describe how delicious is it! Highly recommend (No need to queue at the famous charcoal CKT) Cafe's uncle auntie here is friendly and the drinks here are very nice! Not crowded here and you're going to have a very good eating experience here.

Straight out of the plane, into a Grab cab, "To Siam Road Char Koay Teow, "we said. We were dropped off at the corner coffeeshop. "This is what Google map says it is," he said. This ain't the very same famous char koay teow that has moved into a cafe; as taste goes, it doesn't have the wok-hei and lacks the oomph! Its Bao (buns) are good and nice skin texture. * The famous Charcoal Char Koay Teow has moved one block down the road - #82.

Visit here due to this stall is near to our hotel. Here have Wantan Mee, Char Kueh Teow, Fu Kui Mee toasted bread, pau, and siew mai. Wantan mee is highly recommended due to it taste and price is reasonable! Big size price with RM 6.50 and small size with RM5. This price is rare in Penang where mostly sold price will starting from RM6.00 even small size. The portion of the mee is big enough even with small size. Char Kueh Teow also match with the price. We order big size sold in RM 7 come with 2 big prawn. If you looking for rrasonable price breakfast, may consider this stall. Come early to avoid crowded.

I managed to try out the Cha Keow Teow and my first time in this coffee shop (the last plate on that day). Do come early if you want to eat at this cafe as I reached about 1pm + which most stalls already started cleaning. I find that this CKT has wok hei and is reasonably priced as compared to other CKT in town. I definitely would like to eat again next time.

The Char Kuey Teow sold by an uncle is nice and very cheap price. RM5 for regular portion. Friendly and good food. Why not.

It is said go be the best cvar kwai teow in town. It is! But that must be due to the burned and charred won used to fry it. Roast aromas. But yammie

Local, traditional coffee shop. Wonton noodles and kopi o are classic. Too bad this shop is flocked by tourists in recent years for the "famous" char koay teow.

Eclectic selection of local fukui mee, char kuay teow, wanton mee, yam rice with pork meat soup, charcoal bread (morning only) and drinks. Unfortunately fukui mee sold out by 1230pm on weekday lunch - not sure if that’s the norm. Cash only at this coffee shop.

This place has one of the best ckt I've tasted. Don't waste your time queueing up for the charcoal ckt down the road, I don't think I'll be much better than here, and RM2 cheaper. They have other food stalls as well, I'm sure they are very good. The kopi o is very good too.

We though the char kuay teow was only OK. But the pork and preverved vegetable soup was excellent--wonderful broth.

Someone recommended the CKT so decided to give it a try. It has the wok hey taste. Kopi C ok and price reasonably. Going to try the Lam Mee & Wantan Mee in next visit. But most diners ordered the CKT.

Nice Char Kway Teow and coffee there. Its an old building coffee shop. Its located at the corner of the road. Siam Road is a narrow road, a bit hard to get a parking when the peak hours.

Really good Char Kuay Teow. Better than queueing 1-2 hours down the road. Highly recommended.

Located at a corner of a busy road and a side road, this coffee shop has a char koey teow stall that you should try. It is value for money and tastes as good as any other. It will be hard to find a parking spot nearby, as it is very limited. The coffee shop itself has several other stalls for a different variety of food items.

Coffee was average but the char kueh teow was above average

  • 5/5 Kim Seng T. 1 year ago on Google
Best coffee and char koay teow. Tourists should consider having a plate of char koay teow here rather than taking trouble to queue at the famous charcoal char koay teow on the same row. Try it then you would comprehend why I suggested so!
