To all the LADIES out there, NEVER come to this hotel. And I mean, NEVER. Tldr; harassment by hotel staff. Note: purpose of writing this review is to look out for all the potential guests in the future. Something I’d want to know myself. Was on a trip here with my friend (female) for 3 nights and on our first day here, an hour into our check-in (arnd 4pm), we had a knock on our door. Thinking it was room service, I opened the door (no peek hole) to a drunk looking man, in his 30s, curly hair, tanned skin, with a black graphic tee slurring words I could not make out. after he repeated himself did I realise he was asking us to DRINK ALCOHOL WITH HIM. Immediately slammed the door SHUT & LOCKED the room door (no chain by the door for extra security). We were TERRIFIED. Immediately called the front desk, explaining the situation, giving the description mentioned above & front desk said “yes, that’s my staff. Let us know if you need housekeeping.” I had to repeat the situation and when he realised what was happening, he then said “oh no, that’s not my staff, we would never do that.” Me thinking he would do something to figure out the situation, all he said was an extremely monotonous “ok”. Then he put down the phone. No action was taken by the hotel management. We left the room soon after, physically went to the front desk to follow up on the situation. We asked if that was their hotel staff, he said “no, it’s a guest, from room xx.” As we expressed our concern and fear for our safety, all he said was “it’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok. Don’t worry. It’s safe. It’s safe. It’s ok.” The worst thing he said? “MAYBE THAT’S HIS WAY OF FLIRTING WITH YOU.” How sick can one be to even have that thought run through his mind? Front desk said he’d ask this man to apologise to us but we said “no, we don’t want to be anywhere near him.” We gave up. Realised that there’s no point talking to someone who wouldn’t even listen to us. We left to go out, did not want to make it an even bigger situation because we were scared that they would harm us during our stay there. So we left it as is. While waiting for our grab, he came out and said “my manager will scold him (first of all, would management scold a hotel guest? But we gave them the benefit of the doubt.).” He said an abrupt sorry and before we could respond, he slammed the hotel entrance door shut. Here’s where things get WORSE. Over the course of our stay there, we noticed this man who knocked on our door, working on the premises of the hotel, meaning, HE WAS A HOTEL STAFF + meant that the front desk LIED to us about who this person was. On our last day, as we were checking out of our room, he (drunk man) was housekeeping the room opposite ours. As we left our room, he was staring at us, talking to us “hi. Checking out?” We immediately walked down as fast as we could, my hands starting to shake out of the FEAR that I felt. The fact that he’s still approaching us after we’ve explained to the management how unsafe we felt around this man made me think of 2 things: 1. Our concern was NOT relayed to him by the management. 2. This man does not care about the management and continues to have such behaviour. The fact that he’s still allowed to work there SICKENS me. Just goes to show the kind of behaviour the management supports. Absolutely messed up. We quickly checked out & after stepping out of the place did I feel like I can finally breathe again. I feel absolutely DISGUSTED to have had this encounter at a place that’s supposed to make us feel safe. Extremely disappointed with how this was handled, in fact, it was NOT HANDLED at all. No compensation was given. The fact that the front desk tried to make light of the situation by saying “maybe he’s just trying to flirt with you” is just downright, SICK. About the rooms: nice design, horrible soundproofing system, AC was super noisy, every flush and sink tap opening was heard. NOT safe at all because the door only has ONE lock, no peek hole. WILL NEVER BE BACK.

First time in Penang and first experience not really satisfy. Location wise is great because near to restaurants and mall but no parking for guests. Hotel only provide 2 parkings, first come first serve basis. We did whatsapp and dm the hotel via agoda to enquire something but no reply. Room soundproof is bad, our room facing a bar and we could hear people singing till 1am, unfortunately we bring an infant so this hotel is not suitable for family and not kids frenly. I also ask to change the pillow but staff said cannot change, thats weird. Decoration is beautiful. Room aircond is great. Last but not least we got our deposit late, a really weird procedure bc usually we get deposit on time as we checkout. Price is not worth with what you get. Overall 2/5 stays

Comfortable 5/5 Service 4/5 the staff assist well Parking 1/5 no parking but you may park on the road side. It's claimable. The hotel practically to shoes off before going to the room. The cleanliness here is the best. I like this room clean no dust. AC well functioning & come with smart tv! Awesome It's can walk to go to the mall (1st avenue mall) and very close to the bus terminal.

Me & my family went for one night stay in this mansion. Assuming it’s mansion should be very safe & beautiful unfortunately it’s was just our imaginations its turn out very bad experience our room was not in building it was separate & on top of that there’s no parking provided. We find it’s not safe because it’s was ladies trip .It was not clean enough as I have sinus & I couldn’t sleep well. The receptionist is not cooperative type.

Would not come here ever again, and we do not recommend that girls travelling alone or in pairs stay here as you will not feel safe in a place where you should be resting. Had a really bad experience during my 3 night stay with a female friend. On the first day, a drunk man knocked on our door and asked us to drink with him (the door did not have a peephole for us to check who was outside), we told the front desk person and he was very dismissive, saying that it was a hotel guest and was staying on the same floor with us. He mentioned that he had already told him not to do it again and that we were now “safe”, he said that it was just his way of flirting with us which was quite a ridiculous thing to say to two girls who were fearing for their safety. Turns out, the front desk person had lied and that drunk man was actually his colleague, a hotel staff. No proper action or apology was done by the management. I had trouble sleeping the whole night because of fear that he would try to disturb us again in the middle of the night, and also due to the noise from the water pipes and AC. On our final day, we saw this hotel staff again and he was cleaning the room opposite ours, he attempted to approach us as we were leaving our room. This is unacceptable behaviour and handling from the staff and management. On a positive note, the bathroom was decent and the location of the hotel was convenient, but if you plan on driving, you would face difficulty in finding a place to park.

Cons: 1. Room smaller than pics 2. Dislike no shoe policy, feels like staying in someone’s house 3. Towels were dirty 4. Too many rules 5. They like to charge for every mistake you might make during stay (spills, stain sheets, too much noise) 6. Room deposit will not be refunded for the smallest mistakes you might make, including not presenting receipt during checkout. 7. Room soundproofing is bad, thin walls can hear people walking outside. Lack of privacy imo 8. Bed is small, not queen as promised, it’s double bed. 9. Bathroom not cleaned well between each customers 10. Bedside lamp glued to table. Weird Pros: 1. Cheap 2. Close to many eateries 3. Aircon is cold

This place is a scam. Wouldn’t recommend. We texted the hotel to let them know we were arriving late and they were uncontactable when we arrived. They did not share any check in instructions. We ended up having to look for another hotel. To date, this hotel still hasn’t returned my call or contacted us. And they refuse to refund. It is dodgy as hell.

The hotel gave us a room where the directly facing a dining restaurant where the diner there can clearly see us if we open the curtain. The hotel has no respect towards its customers. The bathroom door is also broken, cannot keep it closed and locked. The placement of the hangar bar is also ridiculous. They place it on top of the area where they put the kettle. The kettle is also broken. We suspect that the hotel keep the kettle there to trap the customers - by accusing the customers that they actually damaged the kettle. Overall, it was not a pleasant night to spend.

Really bad service upon front desk. Didn’t even greet or seated and the process of booking took so much time with complicated requirement. Give me card access but then the room not ready yet so i had to wait another hour for the room. The staff really not friendly and not helpful for tourists. Not suitable for family. The staff rude to accuse us entering the room with extra members when it was the same family members. Also accuse us broke any of their stuff upon checkout as we request for deposit. Really have a bad time with their service. Not recommended for family and new tourists in penang

Bad soundproof can hear people walking and talking in the midnight and the bathroom door can’t close fully. Exposed nail on the floor and the bedsheet is dirty it’s grey in colour. Hard to find parking around that area and front desk didn’t give any instructions what should we do and where should we park our car

Lovely little hotel with quite a happening little area with food and drinks right next door. The hideaway area is active late into the night (until after midnight) with music every night It wasn’t too loud though and we quite enjoyed the music. However, if you’re someone who needs pin-drop silence at night, this might not be the place for you. The room had all the facilities we needed and the only complaint we have is that the AC made some sounds sometimes. Asraf at the reception was very helpful and friendly

The room is not soundproof & there’s a construction right next to the room that I was staying. I paid extra for balcony suite & unfortunately I can’t even go out at the balcony due to the construction. You can even hear the sound of people walking in the room upstairs & also the gush of water flowing when the room upstairs are using their toilet. MOSTLY, THEY ARE NO PARKING HERE. Might as well just pick a hotel with parking included because yknow, it's Penang here, super duper hard to get parking. The bed & pillow here is also not up to a hotel standard. The room is also very small, just enough space to perform your prayer, right in front of the door. Overall, I rate 1/5. 1 star just for the heritage white building. It’s aesthetic but not worth it.

Is a cozy hotel but their room bathroom is dirty, the toothbrushes are old and harden, we can’t even use it. Location wise is easily assessable to the mall. The hotel room walls are not soundproof and there is a bar behind the hotel so every night we are very much disturbed by the sounds, you can hear sounds from the streets too.

Giving it 1 star only cause of the location…. a few problems - the floor was really dusty and it feels kinda gross walking around without any footwear, our room was “infested” with ants and flies (no, we did not bring any food in the room), the view we had from our room was really awkward (literally right next to a restaurant and we can see people eating very clearly…… lucky we had curtains lol) and the room is really small. requested to change to another room - but it’s no where better. will not recommend at all.

Family room, located excatly beside famous penang starbright kopi. Staff service good and friendly. However room has lots of mosquito. Previous guest drinks, shampoo and etc didnt clear off before we enter. One suggestion, please change the half transparent toilet door.

Bad. Didn’t ask for room cleaning, somemore we already told the lady boss & staff not to clean the room before we head out. But at the moment I step into the room, I know I’m going to write this review. My jellycat (bolster) is on the floor?? THE FLOOR??? I was like WTH… I didn’t even ask for room cleaning and I ALREADY MENTIONED NO NEED TO DO ROOM CLEANING. And the stain on the towels… my god.

an overall OK stay, its location was 10/10 great, walking distance to a lot of local attractions. however, its sound proofing was so bad that we were woken up a few times in the middle of the night, hardly slept at all. the price is not worth the money.

  • 4/5 Phuwathid S. 10 months ago on Google
Convenient location - walkable distance to the mall and some other attractions. A deluxe room with balcony is quite small but manageable for couples. Not much use of a balcony as the view obstructed by other buildings (our room is not on the street side).

Tried almost every hotel in Penang and by far, White Mansion is my favourite place to stay in Penang. Very affordable, nice rooms and meets expectations Happy to come back again in the near future.

  • 1/5 Aaron P. 9 months ago on Google
Be weary of staying here. Hotel collects a deposit for “damages” and expects guests to take a photo or video of the room as they enter to be able prove things were damaged without any discussion. In all the years of traveling, this is my first experience of a hotel that would sink this low. For the combined cost of staying here, there are plenty other more value for money options in the area to consider.

My partner and I LOVED our stay. The room was small, but it had everything we needed and more! They had umbrellas for us to use when it rained and bikes to borrow. The staff here were INCREDIBLE, so helpful and attentive. We will definitely stay here again when we're back in Penang. Thank you for a fabulous stay!

The hotel interiors are beautiful, but the quality of service is extremely bad. Rooms a tiny. Hotel Parking is not provided. WiFi connectivity is terrible. The bathroom doors don't latch.

  • 2/5 syafiqa j. 1 year ago on Google
The room decoration are 9/10 The customer service are 2/10 The rules are completely RIDICULOUS!!!!!!! We have to pay deposit RM100 even though we have complete our payment! But, in the agoda, they did not say anything about the deposit payment😤😤😤😤 At that time, we barely carry our cash!! Oh yeah, of course we didn’t get our cash back because of the ridiculous rule. How come a hotel cannot bring visitors?!!! Do you know why I say the rule are ridiculous? All the small matters, we need to pay if we violate the rule😠😠😠😠 Definitely not recommend to people who come with friends, horribe experience with great view and decoration……………

we were initially given a room in which the window was faced directly into a bus cafe of some sort, there is absolutely no privacy whatsoever if the curtains are not drawn and people can actually look directly into the room. when we checked in, there was only quarter of a toilet roll given, barely any soap/ shampoo, and stained towels. there is absolutely no sound proofing in the hotel so do with that what you will. persistent plumbing noises and extremely loud footsteps can be heard all over the hotel (this is during 12:50am & on the first floor) which means whatever that goes on out on the streets can be heard very well too. the water leaks out of the bathroom when you shower so selectively place the floor mat, which is to say that the floor mat will also be soaked. the hairdryer didn’t work properly, the shower head holder was unstable, and be aware that the rest of the bathroom is drenched once you’ve had a shower. amidst the major downsides to this place, the bed is not too bad, room interior is somewhat modern, the front desk is pretty helpful, it’s within the vicinity of most things, the air conditioning works well, and the room wasn’t dusty or sticky. personally think there is a lot to improve for a place that charges what they charge for a night. your money is better off spent elsewhere. verdict: it’s overpriced (paid about 160MYR a night), it’s really noisy, lots can be improved and i don’t think i’ll be coming back here.

Stayed for one night, July 2022. The location of this hotel is strategic at Georgetown area. A very nice chic cozy hotel, with comfortable bed, good air conditioning and amenities such as hot/cold water dispenser, WiFi, etc. The only complaints are; we can't shut the bathroom door and there's a nail bump on the wooden floor. Parking is a hassle during daytime, but night time you can park beside the hotel alley (well lit and only 10 steps to the hotel).

  • 3/5 Chris C. 2 years ago on Google
Room is new and clean. Too bad a number of amenities doesn't work, like TV, hot water, and safe deposit box. Oh, and the toiletries are so old the toothpaste has harden and the toothbrush broke into two while I was using it.

We love our accommodation for all its perks and cons! It uses wooden parquet, modern, clean, well maintained, very central and service was great! We got lots of help and information from Thiru. We especially loved the view to Komtar from our room. Some cons: the room is jam packed, you need to wear slippers inside and our room was on the third floor. But we didn't mind with all these.

From start at lobby, they provided us with hotel sandal. We kept our shoes at shoe rack behind the counter. The room too small and hard for 2 person standing or walking by each others. Overall this hotel very nice. They also provided breakfast ala buffet. Not much choices but still satisfying. Just i think its overprice but still new hotel. Cleanliness is good. Staff friendly. Roof installed with glass and you can rest under the sky by seeing the roof glass.

I was there for five night last week, I really like the hotel is very nice and clean, the decoration is very beautiful and luxurious and also very comfortable. Strategic location close to the bus terminal so it's easy to go anywhere. Some of the employees were very friendly except one chinese female employee was unfriendly. Please being friendly to guests so makes this hotel perfect.
