A corner in Penang for Teochews who landed. Hard to find Teochew cuisine now that Goh Huat Seng has closed, pray for rain and walk down a deadend alley..

Temple located on a busy road which has been recently rebuilt. It's nice and all, but expect to spend 10 minutes here and take a few photos. It seems few people come here to pray but to take photos instead

Little temple, built by the Teochews who emigrated to Penang from China. Can't enter due to EMCO.

We took a picture of the gate outside this location and a rude guard motioned towards us to indicatw that we couldnt take pictures. Its a landmark at a tourist spot. Pls be more friendly to visitors. You can ask nicely if that's the rule not shout "hoi! Hoi! Hoi!" Also, no pictures is an odd rule at a tourist spot. We can respect that but dont be rude abt it. We may have friends from overseas and thats very inhospitable and embarrasing.

I loved my visit here, it's much less busy than most in Georgetown. I was probably here 30ins or more, I saw three other people. It's extremely peaceful inside with beautiful furnishing and decor. There's even chairs you can borrow to sit down and relax in the tranquil atmosphere. It's also free!😁 Of course it's worth a small donation.

A gem of Penang heritage. This a an ancestral temple for 潮州Chao Zhou clans of Guangdong Province of China. These clans form a great number of Chinese diaspora to Vietnam, Thailand and the northern part of the Malay Peninsula. Their dialect spoken is very similar to the dialect spoken in Taiwan. The temple was renovated recently and was one of the few receiving a reward of restoration excellence from UNESCO. The peaceful vibe exudes in the temple presents another dimension of bustling George Town. The architecture has all the extravagant figurines, mythical creatures, exemplary high timber doors with colonial period latch, roof ceilings painted in great hues and granite slab flooring in the main compound besides the old era tiles in the hall. The deity Xuan Tian Shang Did (玄天上帝) is prayed right in the main hall. A very common deity prayed in Taoism. The deity always has a turtle under his right foot and a snake under his left foot. This is corresponding to the Chinese celestial teaching like the western constellation. A must visit to savor a masterpiece collection.
