Value for Money Semi Fine Dining in Penang! 😊 5-Course Dinner is great especially their ambience, very comfortable and beautiful food. Came with my husband which is a chef himself for our valentine day. Its 4 out of 5 stars because beef steak ordered is medium but came out rare (not evenly cooked, inside is still very pink while outside is seared). Spring chicken has pink flesh near its bones (still raw inside). Luckily did not experience any food poisoning the next day. Food quality can further improve on its consistency, however its menu, creativity and plating deserve 5 stars! Price is around RM350++ for two.

Fabulous dinner at a wonderful new discovery! Contemporary, excellent and thoughtfully executed food. Western style applied to Asian ingredients and flavours - and boy, does it work! Crispy Ulam and Spicy Squid entrees were just superb - clever combinations, great taste and really enjoyable. Pork collar and lamb loin (special) were really lovely. Great combinations of ingredients. Service was excellent- great to see real attention to scanning the tables to check everyone is happy, excellent wine selection and lovely cocktails. Faultless. I think we’ve just found a new favourite! Looking forward to the Whatever, Chef! menu coming back. We’ll be seeing a lot of you, White Smoke!

I have tried their Whatever Lah, Chef! Tasting course on New Year's Eve. The food taste is so good, and their staff is so friendly and efficient. They explain each dish to me. The environment is so chill here. I will definitely come back to try their other food.

Very good quality food and nice ambience. A small reading corner for the kids is a nice touch (photo). Don’t miss out the dessert - we had the fried yam with ice cream which is so yum !!! If you are vegetarian, don’t miss their mushroom risotto too (photo) ! Service staff very friendly and explained each of the dish served. They also have a long table for big gathering of about 15-20 pax

Amazing food! We loved everything we ordered - pie tee, bone marrow, confit duck, cauliflower with mala cream and our favourite, the lamb rack. Everything on the plate is thoughtfully curated with different elements! For example, the lamb rack came with sliced Japanese cucumber which was refreshing to balance out the meat. The restaurant was nice too. The only thing with service is that the waitress spoke quite softly when explaining the dishes making it quite hard to hear over the chefs grilling behind us. There was also one point when I had informed the waitress that I was ready to order but she had gone ahead and cleaned a table in front without coming back to take our order or asking another colleague to take our order. We came for a friend’s birthday and they had kindly prepared a small birthday dish that said happy birthday. It had a small scoop of ice cream and some other items like meringue and lemon curd. We highly recommend the undercooked dark chocolate cake served with lime sorbet. A really good combo.

Travelling to Penang this week and accidentally found this excellent restaurant in Georgetown heritage area. The food was exquisite and the service was surprisingly good and friendly! Their special menu lamb tortellini is my favourite!

New restaurant in Penang. And I highly recommend it. Asian fusion. A very young and passionate team. The food was incredible! And the produce. Everything is home made, from all the oils/sauces used. I was pleasantly surprised. Am writing this review because I am shocked the restaurant isn’t packed to the brim every single night. It should be! Had most of the items on the small plates menu. Love the mabong fish, crispy ulam, grilled prawns, spicy squid, and the star - BONE MARROW, with lovely pillows of naan bread. The okra, so simply done - grilled but served with yuzu and soy dressing - brilliant! And the desserts are also amazing!

Had lunch with friends on weekend. Surprisingly not crowded, maybe most ppl come for dinner. We tried the following dishes: 1) Crispy Ulam, RM26 - Pretty good appetiser with light and refreshing taste. Exciting mix of soft fresh fish and crispy rice texture in a bite. 8/10 2) Lamb Bagel, RM40 - Well marinated shredded lamb fillings compliments really well with the cheese, onion jam and other ingredients that makes it a hearty bagel sandwich! 9/10 3) Oxtail Toasties, RM42 - Ingredients pretty similar to the lamb bagel but Oxtail meat sandwiched between toasted benggali bread. 10/10 will order this again! 4) Carbonara, RM26 - Creaminess of the sauce was just nice. Not jelak. Can taste the natural flavour of each ingredient and not just salty. Pasta was cooked al dente as well. 9/10 5) Pork Aglio Olio, RM26 - Not too oily and salty as well. Pasta was al dente too. Perhaps could use more garlic. 7/10 6) Creamy Aus Ribeye, RM58 - The least fav among the dishes we had. Nothing to shout about. Beef taste got drowned among the sauce and other ingredients. Not worth the price. 5/10 7) Hot latte - Average coffee. Overall, would recommend the first 4 dishes above. Service was okay just that sometimes abit slow especially when they serve the after meal coffee. The coffee arrived one by one. Will be back to try other dishes.

We had so much fun dining here. Sitting at the bar, watching the young chefs whipping out the different dishes. We had Crispy Ulam.. Very nice with cured fish. Roast chicken.. Love the smokey flavour. The chicken was sous vied and theb grilled on the bbq. Nice. Whatever.. It was grilled whole seabass that day, extremely delicious, the burnt butter really enhanced the taste. Fried pork (forgot the name of the fish).. Very delicious. This is like a playground for the chefs , they seemed to enjoy what they were making and they took the time to explain what each item was. This is going to be our favourite restaurant in Penang.

Great food, cozy place, most friendly and hospitable owner I’ve ever met. He’d offered us a ride home when we couldn’t get a Grab. We recommend the fish dishes, nicely seasoned and decorated. The Tiramisu however has a stronger taste than we expected. Overall you should give a try!

Excellent service and quality of dishes. Flavours here and amazing and thought of. Nothing is by coincidence and you can tell from each dish. Highly recommend the prawn and using the sauce for the corn, and fish. Great service here also, highly recommend for an elevated but cozy dining experience.

Ordered from their lunch specials. Grilled chicken wrap set, grilled chicken poke bowl set and spicy squid to share. The spicy squid looked like Halloween themed, green orange brownish sauce. Despite char-grilled, the taste was bland. If it wasn't for the black crumbs around the dish, i wouldn't know how the squid was cooked. Not too bad but lack of characteristics, the taste. Grilled chicken itself, in both the wrap version and poke bowl version, taste healthy. Personally cannot take the red pickled cabbage. A bit too sour. The rest were fine. The sous vide egg was very omega. The mustard mayo was good. Set came with a drink, salad and dessert. The shortcake was mediocre. Mine almost without the cocoa powder while my friend's shortcake was flooded with cocoa powder🤣. Parking yes is always limited that area. Cozy environment, spacious. Good service. Price wise standard for a restaurant like this.

Talented chef delivering beautifully delicious, (mostly grilled) meat and seafood plates. Everything cooked to perfection with an excellent balance textures and flavours. The staff is very good as well so the service is tops. I suspect that the head chef will have a M. Star at some point.

A good pick to celebrate a friend's birthday. Loved how the menu rocked our palatte with creative textures and flavours using local ingredients. Enjoyed the food tremendously that we forgot to take pictures of our pasta 😆 Thanks to the waitress that was serving us, she definitely knows the food inside out. Liked how she shared with us on the food ingredients and how our food was prepared. Thanks for the special dessert for the Birthday girl 🥂 Will definitely come back to try the other food on the menu 😋

The pork collar, beef marrow and grilled prawns are quite delicious. Pork collar is surprisingly tender and juicy, very different from other pork that I've tasted. The price is on the higher side, but worth it if you are looking for fine dining type cuisine. Ambience is cafe like so don't expect it to be romantic, but it's quite comfortable.

Food: Astoundingly delicious! 😋 Every single dish has its own exquisite taste and good quality ingredients. Such talented chefs they have. You have no regrets! Ambiance: Cosy. Nice for dinner date. But limited seats. I suggest you make a reservation beforehand. They have a 5-8 courses menu where you need to order 3 days in advance. But I'd say just go for their mains and small plates as appetiser will do. Service: They served you well. Each dish is carefully explained to you when they present it to you. I have to give it to this one particular server crew, Ms. Jaylin. She's made me very happy. She's a wonderful lady with great patience and such a pro serving local uncle & auntie where they only converse in Hokkien dialect. Especially with an occasion (my father's birthday) 👏 kudos to her! Her boss needs to increase her salary and tie her down. She's a gem! 😄 Overall: I'm happy! My family is happy! Everyone's tummy is happy! I'd definitely go back there, and you should, too. Thank you for reading. Hit LIKE & be my follower if you enjoyed reading this. Hit LIKE too if you don't like it! 🤣 Thank you for your time. Now, pls go eat before you turn HAngry 🤗

Love the food here. Love how the staffs explained the components of the dishes. Managed to get a taste of the food before it closes 2 months for renovation. My favourite is the dessert called ‘Drink Guinness stout and eat peanuts’. Very clever combination of bitter, sweet, salty and crunchy. Looks simple but taste amazing!

The 5 course dinner was awesome and at a bargain. The service was great and the service staff was courteous and polite... Took effort to explain the dishes that are served. Well... It could improve on the lighting as the white lights are glaring. The metal chairs are not too comfy but will make do. Well... For the price and the great food... What else can you ask for. Good value for money and with the chairs and lights improved... It will be "romantic" too to go with the great food.

Came here for a birthday dinner and overall was a lovely experience. Highlights of the night were the beef cheeks and pork belly, everything else was pretty good too. We did however have an issue with the daily special fish we ordered. It had to be sent back twice, 1st time it wasn’t cooked through and 2nd time we found it wasn’t fresh and actually smelled. To which they profusely apologized, cut it from the bill and compensated with complimentary desserts. Their Guinness ice cream & peanut parfait dessert was a dream, so beautifully executed and a flavor bomb. The staff are also polite, attentive and helpful 10/10. The wait for the food was quite awhile as the place was packed. Definitely recommended booking beforehand. Despite the little inconveniences, it was still a good experience. Only critique would be the noise. It’s a small & long place with no proper sound padding. With it being packed full of people and music playing from the speakers, all the noise just echos throughout against concrete walls. Some curtains, cushions and ceiling sound absorbers would definitely go a long way.

Nice place with interesting dishes. Effort to make the dish with a bit of a spin. Steak, fish, lamb and for me the most interesting was the cauliflower with "mala" sauce... good effort... Wine was nice, good atmosphere and service.

Living in this endemic, we can only adapt to it. #Supportlokal, this time I have sampled 2 types of pasta dishes and 2 types of homemade ham from this joint nestled in the heart of Georgetown. For RM 18-RM 22, you will be able to enjoy a decent bento box of either set rice with your chosen sides or pasta of your choice. In the picture, creamy basil pesto with 2 sides. Pesto paste itself gives out the nutty and herb flavour and enhanced further by olives (pesto lovers rejoice). However the pasta is slightly overcooked and broken bits (Italians might not be happy over this haha). For the sides (salad and sautéed vegetables), nothing fancy about it so you can just skip it imho. Not in the picture is creamy ham and mushroom, again the taste is good however pasta is overcooked and broken bits. Buttermilk ham and Smoked ham, it is edible on its own however does not have much of a wow factor. Recommend to add on to your sandwich or sliders or panini for more oomph. Smoked ham 🏆

White Smoke is the real deal, one of George Town's - 'Best" - delivering flavors & quality equal a world-class bistro. The design is "classic" with a menu that delivers from starters through mains. A smart wine list - and like a good Bistro - an atmosphere serious about food yet relaxed about dining. A great place to enjoy with friends. Highly Recommend! (Menu & prices available on line)

Had a great night here in White Smoke Restaurant. The food was state-of-the-art, an amazing bland between East and West. We highly recommend the beef cheek, eggplant, and deconstructed lemon pie. Atmosphere was very nice and cozy with very enjoyable music. Shoutout to the splendid service and waitresses’ kindness. It’s a place where I would definitely come back.

Beef cheek is wonderful. A must try! They don’t just served the food. The chef makes sure u get the best from the menu. I also love it when they explain how to enjoy the food and the introduction. Very impressive food and service. The staff shared every detail of the dish with us. There were so many dishes to choose and what we love most was white prawn and chicken wings. We had mussels in white wine. Like the freshness of the broth. As for pork loin and lamb rack, perhaps the doneness of the meat can be better but the sauces and marinate is brilliant. Will definitely return when we next visit Penang.

The atmosphere here is good. Simplicity with some soft colour of lighting setting make people relax. Food: is Western style fine dining like of menu. They offer 12 courses with wine offer on Wednesday but need to pre-order. They also serve ala cart menu and drinks or dessert. Parking: the parking here is main problem that you may need to turn around several times for the parking. Service is good to fair level. They will explain the raw material used when they serve the dishes. For me, I feel is like a standard routine that the waiter or waitress memorize the script is state of explains from heart.

Random restaurant picked for todays dinner and they did not fail to surprise me with their good service, attentive staff , great service etiquettes and not to be miss out the absolutely fabulous food that come from the open kitchen. Their staff know what’s going on with every dishes and they will explain to you on every course that they serve, the kind of experience that you can get in a real fine dining restaurant. Tried their sea bass and salad pair with house recommended Merlot. Seabass is cooked to perfection , meat still tender and succulent, not to be missed out the fine charred on the skins. Goes very well with a sip of Merlot. End my meal with their undercooked molten cake to satisfy my lust for sugar and voila, finish up the molten cake to the very last drip. Will I return? Definitely and I urge everyone to give it a try to. It’s a fusion style dining experience where you experience abit of European style mixed with local Malaysian style of food preparation.

Had my anniversary dinner here yesterday with my husband. The food was so so good! Not fine dining, portion is slightly more. We enjoyed our dinner served by particularly these 2 waiter and waitress. Jane which was a new staff actually handled a new customer like we both quite well. She was very polite and nice and Leedyan (can't really remember his name) bro, you know your dishes very well. Very professional. Makes me feel very "atas" in this restaurant. Hahahah! Service was tip top! We ordered salmon which was so freaking fresh. The chicken thigh just like melts in our mouth. Then last but not least, the spicy squid was the bomb! You have to order it if you get here! The place is cozy. Though loads of people but you won't feel packed of the space. One of the greatest so far I've had! Basically not only the food is good, everything else was! And oh! They gave us a complimentary dessert because it's our anniversary. Thanks guys. So sweet! The tiramisu, had strong alcohol taste. I feel it should be this way for that price. Walla! I'm a fan!

The taste of the food was good however I expected more depth to the flavours. The overall environment n decor is really nice too. I just felt maybe they can reduce noise around the restaurant by adding some cushions or items on the wall.

Cauliflower with spicy/Mala which giving unexpected combination. lamb skewer is juicy and must pair with sauce and small piece of little *bread*, yum! Bagok fish paired with sour spicy sauce And lastly, crispy ulam.... Seasoning with some spicy oil......

Such a nice experience in the middle of Georgetown. The food was delicious, we tried both fish they had to offer and they were perfectly cooked and seasoned with the right portion, mocktails were interesting and the home made ice cream was very good to finish this very nice dinner. Definitely recommended !

First course came with 3 bite sized delicacies with very distinct and unique flavors. One was like a seaweed crunchy seaweed snack, another a very rich mouthful of otak otak(one of my faves) with black caviar on top and lastly something I never knew I'd have, you char kueh (油條) with coffee filling. Second course, loved it. It was a ham and cheese platter. Hams were very soft and tender every bite just had me wanting more, combine it with the cheese and crackers provided completes the perfect trinity. Third was a sotong sausage with mince meat filling. Sotong was so soft you barely have to chew to get through it and the thai style sauce compliments it very well. On to the main course, I had a ribeye steak while my wife had the pork collar. Steak was well seasoned and cooked to how I requested, which I rarely get lol. Very soft to bite and the fat to meat ratio was perfect. Then the pork collar. Mm it was one of the most soft and juiciest meat I've had. It was accompanied by some vegetables and apple chips that helped enhance the taste further but the meat alone was already so satisfying. Lastly was the dessert, a deconstructed lemon meringue that came with a scoop of coconut icecream. Tbh never had something like this before, it was quite fun to eat and it wasn't too sweet but had a nice punch of lemon you bite into the pieces. Great end to the meal. Overall I loved the food, the price personally i feel is well worth the quality of food served. Will definitely come again.

Pork Rib was marvelous. Scallop was good just a bit salty. Lamb rack was just okay and the spicy agio olio noodle could have been better. The house wine price need to be revised.
