Desasiswa fajar harapan is one of the many hostels that universiti sains malaysia USM provides for their students. It is one of the oldest hostel with 2 blocks of four storey building. Each room houses 2 persons. Shared bathroom on each stairs. The hostel only provide accomodation for female undergraduate students only. the desa fajar office is located at the first floor of the cafe building. the hostel has its own car park. it is located at the opposite of institute for molecular research (INFORMM USM) and quite near to USM mosque. The famous Fajar harapan lake or famously know as the "tasik biawak" is also located near the hostel. the main attraction is fajar cafe, the cafe serves a varieties of kuih-muih, very suitable to hang out for breakfast and tea break in the evening. the cafe serves many types of meals such as nasi tomato, nasi lemak, nasi ayam, nasi ayam penyet, mi goreng, nasi goreng, and nasi campur. During semester, the cafe also opens a burger stalls at night. it is also the choice for budget lunch at the indian corner cafe where you can spend lunch with " 3 lauks" below rm 5. the cafe is equipped with wifi, drink stalls. the cafe opens from 7 am until 8pm on the weekdays. Desa fajar is located at a very strategic location where it is close to the schools, the lake, the mosque and sungai dua shops.
